Is it necessary to book youth hostels in Brussels and paris during September 6 to 13?

I have to go there for attending a conference but unsure if i hove to book youth hostels. Any information will help a lot. Thanks in advance.

September is not the high season for tourists anymore but it is the start of the University year, and as such the hostels might be pretty full with students who did not find a room yet, and with start of the year tours from schools all over Europe. And you will want to stay near where the conference is held, not way out in the suburbs. So yes, I would make reservations.

How old do you have to be to stay in a youth hostel alone?

I am 16 and want to go travelling around Croatia with a friend this summer. As we are low on funds we want to stay in youth hostels for the duration of our trip, will we be allowed?

How to register (book) for youth hostels in Lebanon?

Hi, I will be in lebanon within 2 weeks, I heard that youth hostels are cheaper than normal hotels, I am looking to book in any of the hostels in beirut Hamra or anything in the heart of Beirut. What do I need to register (book) in these youth hostels? Can I do that online? What's the site for that organization? Your advise will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Go to http://www.hihostels.com You can book on line but you will need a credit card to do so. Hostels in the Lebanon are not as cheap as elsewhere. Expect to pay about $50 per night for a double room. Hope this helps Ian

What is the best youth hostel you have stayed at on your travels and what made it great?

I have traveled around the world but have only usually stayed in Youth Hotels in Europe as lodging can get expensive there. In South East Asia I usually rented a hut or some budget hotel. What are some of the best traits you have found in a youth hostel or a good budget traveler's lodging? One called the treehouse in Koh Chang had a great resturant with hammocks and a disco. I mean what do you want in a youth hostel: scooters for rent? internet access? private rooms? a good dorm? good information about the area? outdoor activities? local and international food served? Tell me about what made it a great place for you.

I stayed in the Sydney, Australia, youth hostel downtown about 7 years ago. It was great - modern, clean, ideally located, with internet access, snack shop, and lots of very cheery people, both aussies and others. That was my favorite.

Is sixteen too young to stay at a youth hostel with some friends during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival?

So I will be staying with a couple of friends, and i want to stay at a youth hostel there for a week tops. My Godfather has been performing there for about thirty years so ill have someone to call/see if i ever get in trouble. Ideas of relatively cheap/safe youth hostels that will take 15/16 year olds? HI hostels are mostly good and reasonable in price, but mostly not the cheapest. I prefer sites like Hostelworld and Hostel bookers. You find the sites when you search for hostel and the name of a city or country. If you look through answers here, given to hostel questions, you will find that some have favorite sites. I just check the reviews on the site and about the site, most of those sites are good.

What is the difference between a "Hostel" and a "Youth Hostel"?

I'm curious to know the history of these terms and if there are any specific descriptions to distinguish 'Hostels' and 'Youth Hostels'.

Basically the names are now used for the same thing, but if a writer makes a difference, youth hostels are mostly part of Hosteling International, till a few years back known as YHA, the international Youth Hostel Association. http://www.hihostels.com/ The word hostel is then for all hostels not within HI, and that are many, of different quality.

Can a 17 year-old stay in youth hostels in Eurpoe without a parent or guardian?

My son is graduating from high school and several friends will be backpacking through Europe. THey're 18, but he's only 17 and won't be 18 until August - after they return. Will he be able to stay in youth hostels without a guardian? Any other issues I haven't forseen? Thanks!

Best way would be if he carries a statement of parental consent to travel with copies of your passport. A notarial confirmation would not be required unless your son wants to travel to Spain or Portugal..

How are youth hostels in Europe?

I'm planning to travel to Europe this year with a friend of mine. We want to make it as cheap as possible and we reckon the cheapest form of accomodation is a youth hostel. Most youth hostels are 4-bed or 6-bed which means we'll have to share the dorm and bathroom with 2 or 4 other people. Is it safe? I mean, I'm a bit apprehensive about that.

They are safe. There will typically be lockers that you can use to store (and lock) your bags. hihostels.com has very detailed information. Personal safely is generally less of a concern in Europe than in the US. Especially central and northern Europe are very safe.

Is it legal to impose age restrictions on youth hostels?

I am wondering if it's actually legal for youth hostels to discriminate against people over a certain age. Some youth hostels have a limit of 35 years old, max. Could someone take a youth hostel to court and successfully claim they are being discriminated because they are overage? Or would a court say it's within the law for a youth hostel to set an age limit. I'm in my 20s and stayed in many youth hostels, and felt uncomfortable with people in their 50s and 60s staying in the same room.
