Need help finding a company or supplier?

What is the average income of a yacht broker?

I am interested in sales, it is what I do best. I can build trusting relationships and can (probably) sell just about anything. I also have a passion for boats. Are you a yacht broker? I want to know what you made last year. What are the job prospects? I notice that the large majority of brokers are mid 50's to 60's. Are all of these brokers about to retire, therefore leaving the market open for new brokers? What is the income of a yacht broker, versus a real estate broker? I am just curious and would appreciate ANY input.

Keegan

Question answered by rebecaaa

Well, i don't know much about this two. But, I am sure you may make more money as a real estate broker because more people buy houses than yachts, yet yachts can be very expensive, but are considered to be a luxury, and with the economy being down and stuff like that, not many people are buying either. Please be aware that this is an opinion and i am not educated in either fields

How does somebody become a Yacht Broker?

What's the average salary of a Yacht Broker? What college classes would be good for it? How much would you charge a client? What are the specific things that a Yacht Broker does? Does he need Yachts to sell or what?

Smith, John Smith

Question answered by Tinpanallycat

I've known a lot of Yacht Brokers that barely finished Grade School.. but they Had a TERRIFIC PERSONALITY which is what it takes.. just think of the best USED CAR SALESMAN you have ever known and you have a great Yacht Broker. You DO need a U.S.C.G. LICENSE.. at LEAST 100 Tons with Auxiliary Sail endorsement and you need to have a LOT of on the water experience so you can make handing a boat and docking LOOK EASY so the plonkers will think they can do it too. Charges vary.. but most brokers now have a MINIMUM regardless of the value of the boat of anywhere from $500 to $1000 and they charge a percentage of the value of the final sale of anywhere from 5 PERCENT to 10 PERCENT of the selling price. You WON'T just walk in off the street into a Brokers office and tell them you wan To sell boats but you don't have any on the water experience.. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO HANDLE BOATS.. all kinds of boats, up to the limit of your license (100 TONS is about an 85 foot powere boat).. this is just MINIMUM qualification for the job.

Is marine engineering a good major for yacht brokering? any other good majors for it?

Is marine engineering a good major fro yacht brokering, and what are other good majors for it? also, what are some colleges in the US and West Australia and British Columbia that have the majors?

Zane Francisco

Question answered by ownpool

A business major would be better background. Try to work for a summer at a marina to learn about yachts first hand. This is not a promising field in the current economy and conditions do not appear to be likely to change by the time you finish your education.

How do you become a yacht broker? What citites/states are best to sell in? Help please!?

My fiance wants to change careers and knows lots about boats, he grew up on one and worked on them his whole life. He would like to become a yacht broker to sell them but doesn't know where to start. Do you need a degree or any kind of special education? What are the best cities/states to work in? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! He knows Southern Florida & California are good spots, we were wondering if there are any others along the coast that are good also. Keeping our options open.

Anyone know a good yacht charter broker in Antibes?

My husband and I want to charter a yacht in the South of France for a short holiday. We have heard that Blue Water Yachting in Antibes are good. Has anyone used them?

Question answered by Lord Sebastian Flyte

Yes, and I was very satisfied. The Yacht I was planing on using, needed emergency repair. I had to use them in a pinch. I have nothing but praise for the way they quickly handled all my needs.

What brokerage fee should I pay for a yacht sale?

I have a boat valued at about $130k and I'm considering selling it. What's the commission range generally paid to brokers in this instance?

Question answered by mark t

The broker at the marina where I keep my boat charges 10%. If you are paying more then that its too high. If its less, good deal!

What steps should I take in order to work as crew on a sailing vessel / yacht?

Hi, I'm 24 and currently work as a boat captain / deckhand off Captiva, FL. I have my near coastal OUPV license, I've worked on boats in Long Island Sound and up in Alaska, so I suppose I have some experience on the water. However, not so much with sailboats, but I occasionally work on a 40 ft catamaran. I am interested in working as crew on a large sailboat, or I suppose any sort of large yacht, on long trips. I'm looking for adventure and I want to see the world while I'm still young. How would I find a vessel to work aboard? I'm not even too concerned about financial compensation. I have my captains license, college degree, no debt, some savings, love to cook/ fish, and am physically fit... I feel as if I would be a good candidate to do this. Any suggestions?

Don't let pessimists put down your goal objectives since most are just "hanging out, awaiting check out time"... Go online to "boats and harbors" and under employment section expose your skills also contact the boat brokers there since they can "open leads" to high end boat buyers.... Stick with fact you desire to be a part of a team that keeps a vessel in "tip top shape",to further your career goals as mariner. DON'T state your still young and desire adventure:employer wants to know what you can do for them, not for yourself... Stress:present experience, desire to learn, available 24/7,etc. Coincidentally, within FL area there are marinas with sailing vessels that surely would enjoy a "squared away" crew as yourself, which by the way have crew with degrees... Paramount to all,is fact you must be sincere and pursue your dream since realistic it is... Good Luck Sailor!

What type of boat/ yacht should i get?

I want to buy a REALLY nice boat/ yacht. Money is no problem. I want one that I could be out in the ocean for a long time on and still feel at home. I have $100,000 see aside for it. Does any body know any models or websites for good boats or yachts? Thanks!

Djashleyg

Question answered by Derrick S

$100k isn't going to get you much. a used 28' Express Cruiser from Sea Ray is what I'd expect. I thought you said money was no problem. That's not even a down payment for a "Nice" boat. You can go look in Boattrader, BoatUS and I'd look up some boat/yacht brokers for used models. For $100k you can get a used sailboat for the ocean, but you won't find any power boat that'll stay out for any length of time. My Motor Yacht was over $1.8M with extras. Then Tiger Woods' motor yacht cost him $23 Million and isn't the nicest. There are yachts that cost over $300 Million cruising the world.
