What is the best way to clean the outside of a castiron woodburning stove?

I have reiceved a castiron woodburning stove and the outside has a layer of crap. what is the best way to clean that off and prepare it for painting?

aceventura2225

Question answered by rebelroserose

you can use scrubbing bubbles just spray on and leave for 15-20 minutes and it will bubble up all the nasty stuff on the stove and then take a scrub brush and brush the stove good all over and take your water hose and rinse it off. scrubbing bubbles is good for a lot of cleaning stuff.i had an air conditioner tech tell me they use it to clean the grills on air conditioners !

Is a woodburning stove considered a fixture that must be included in the sale of a home?

When I listed my house for sale, the woodburning stove was not included or excluded. The house went into contract, but then my ex-husband stole it (he denies it) without telling anybody (I had already moved out). The house has since closed and the buyers are now trying to come after us for the insurance money. Can the buyers still come after me even though the deed has passed hands?

Question answered by TheMom

Yes, it would be included unless specifically excluded from the sale.

What do you use to finish/render the inside of fireplace before you can install a woodburning stove?

We are looking at having a woodburning stove installed, but just wondered what do they use to finish the inside of the old fireplace before the stove goes in. Is it just sand and cement or is there something special that they use for that purpose?

Anna

Question answered by Taf

Fire cement.

I'm going to send you to Lowes. or Harbor Frieght. I have seen nice ones at both stores. When shopping for a woodstove look 1st for safety..and 2nd...will it produce good heat. Too many just want to look pretty. You want a stove that does the job. I have been useing woodstoves all my life and love wood heat.

How do I replace my gas central heating with a woodburning stove central heating.?

I have an old 2 up 2 down stone house with full gas central heating. 7 radiators. Can I have the radiator system attached to a woodburning stove instead of my gas back boiler or would I need a whole new piping system? Anubis- looked around the web a bit: try http://www.Gr8fires.co.uk It may help.

Question answered by anubis

quite an easy project for a plumber, old system should be ok to use, if this is a uk question are you in a smokeless area, if so i believe there is only one wood burner with back boiler that is approved and that's quite expensive, thought of doing the same myself as always have access to plenty of timber, best of luck

Woodburning stove installation?

I live in Alberta, Canada and want to install a freestanding woodburning stove in my living room. I know it has to be installed according to fire regulations but I don't have the fire codes. It will be installed at an angle in the living room corner.

billydee49

Question answered by badger123ca

Information on the local fire codes should be available from the town office. There should also be clearance information in the installation manual that came with the stove.

how to make a woodburning stove?

i would like to build a woodburning stove for my garage using scrap steel from my workplace. i am a welder and all i need is a plan to start with to make a decent stove.

Question answered by Red Rooster

A steel drum as the fire box, and another one mounted just above with the flu gasses going through one side and exiting through the other side, up and out the stack. This will capture lost heat and make it more efficient. You will see it illustrated in the ad sections of mother earth magazines, they have the hardware, such as doors, flu flanges, grates, and such.

Woodburning stove which is smoking on a windy day?

I have recently installed a woodburning stove, It is tightly sealed with the fire clay cement and no leaks. It can go fine for days and then suddenly the room fills with smoke. Could this be a down draught problem, Any ideas of how to cure it? Thanks

jaine

Question answered by CoolCat

Usually the answer is to raise the height of the flue pipe over the highest roof line. If it is too low, it can cause the down draft problem. You may not have to raise it over the highest roof line but you will have to raise it. You decide how high?

Are the ashes that come from fire places good for plants?

we have a woodburning stove and want to use the ashes to fertilize our plants, does this seem likeagood idea?

Thomas G

Question answered by Tarlyng

Yes it is good for your garden. Just be sure to mix it in evenly with compost and spread it out over your garden and mix it well with soil. I had a wood stove; and for ten years I had great results from my garden when I add the wood ashes to it.

How much does it cost to install a wood burning stove in NJ (or surrounding area)?

I'm looking to buy a woodburning stove and am wondering what the average cost is for installation in New Jersey or the surround area. Thanks! Also, i don't want to install a new chimney i just want to put a duct up and out through the roof. Is this possible? or must a chimney be installed?

Question answered by Sara

At first, you should make a budget for your wood burning stove, you know that there are a variety of wood stoves with different designs, shapes, naturally, at different prices. Generally speaking, in order to make sure we get a high-quality stove, we should get the best one we can afford. Just look at http://www.astove.co.uk/c/wood-burning-stoves , as an example, the price of their wood stoves range from £229 to £899, you just need to choose the one suit for your budget and the size of your house. Therefore, how much you will spend on installing a wood stove, it totally depends on your budget and your requirement. If you just want to get an exact answer, it will be at least 200 dollar if you get a enough cheap one. It is not difficult to get a chimney suit for your wood stove. You'd better get your stove and chimney at a same shop, it can make sure that your chimney can perfectly fit your stove. About the installing, many wood stove suppliers will offer door-to-door service and install it for you. Thus, you just need to choose a good supplier. Good luck to you!
