Is home window tinting equal to something like blinds to keep sunlight out?

Can someone please tell me if home window tinting(solar film) will keep sunlight out as well as opaque material like blinds. I know this may be a stupid question but i was hoping someone who has experience with both could enlighten me please. The main problem is that we have doors with window in them and do not really want to drill holes into the wood to fit blinds and also would like to maintain the open view.

Question answered by 2hi

Window tinting/ solar film works but the change isn't drastic. It will keep bright light from coming in but that is about it. Being dark, the glass will still get hot and create heat. Tinting works best when used with blinds or some type of mounted shade. Metal blinds are the worst ones you could possibly buy. Plastics or wood blinds are great. If you were to do blinds through out the home, and tint the french doors, that would be another way to go, blocking the light where the view may not be as important, and tinting the windows/doors you want to have a view from. Plastic blinds are the cheapest and most efficient way to cover a window. Wood blinds are even better, they absorb most of the heat they don't reflect, and if you got money to spend, wood shutters are the best way to go. All of these products will work well, and last a long time, especially if you also tint the windows you cover with blinds. The sun will take much longer to wear them out. So the final verdict, tint is great, blinds/shutters are better. Tint and blinds/shutters are the best. If your doors are made of wood, damage from mounted hardware is minimal and easily patched if you choose to take down the window covering. Shutters however, are much more permanent. Hope that helps.

How much is too much for car window tinting treatment?

Hello internet! So my husband has a 2007 Volvo S80 V8, he wants window tinting on it for Christmas, due to his eyes sensitivity to sunlight while he's driving this would be really great. But I don't know where to go to? We live in the Baltimore area and I've never gotten this done to a car before. If anyone could help me out by giving me the name of a place I'd really appreciate it.

Question answered by Michael

I've worked in window tinting for 3 years. And while not in Baltimore, I can assure you this: Do your homework. As you may be already aware, your car could cost $100-$450 depending on a variety of things. Let's go over some things that will make a difference in the price: A) Warranty. While most tints do come with a lifetime warranty, you will find the minimum price for that reassurance will come at the $150 level. B) Heat protection. Added heat protection is certainly one thing that can change the price. I've been to the beltway + know how hot and muggy it gets in the summer. C) Aesthetics. Are we talking a more basic, after-market look or something with a more polished factory-install look. Ask the tinting company what products they use so you can do your own research on it. While it may take you 20 minutes to complete the process, it will be well worth it.

They make pull down shades that work just as good, either tinted or cloth. Check into Lowes or Home-Depot

Why is it said that window tinting saves energy?

People say that window tinting is energy reducing. But what exactly is the logic behind it?

Smith

Question answered by Robert K

The energy from the sun comes as parts of the electromagnetic spectrum: Visible light = obvoius Ultra-Violet radiation = not visible but gives us a sunburn Infra-Red radiation = is able to heat air and surfaces (obvious) If the IR radiation can reach inside a room it heats the air in the room (or car) and you have to cool it down with air conditioning which needs energy = the "tinting" (pigment or colorant) of the glass absorbs and reflects IR radiation therefore less radiation reaches the inside so it stays cooler = less air conditioning = less energy necessary to run the AC (same in cars). Same with Sunscreens: organic ingredients or micronized Titaniumdioxide/Zinkoxide can absorb or reflect UV radiation = does not reach the skin = no sunburn !

How much does window tinting usually cost?

Does anyone know how much window tinting is for a standard sized sedan? Just a ballpark figure? Thanks

Bob S

Question answered by Chris

it depends on what % of tint you get, it was close to 250 to do my focus it had 35% on it and my ranger i have now has 5% on it, it was alot more for the ranger. also dont try to do it your self usually ppl will screw that all up........i would say for a standard sedan prolly 250-300 depending on where u live and the % you get

Is it recommended to avoid direct sunlight on my car right after a window tinting job?

I just got my window tinting job, and I am not sure whether the man recommended to leave it in direct sunlight or avoid direct sunlight... please advise!

Joanne H

Question answered by Mike F

Quite the opposite of the previous advice. Keep your car in direct light for as many days as possible. This will allow for the evaporation of any residual moisture.

Is it better to purchase a car with a sunroof added on at the factory? What about window tinting?

Is it better to purchase a less expensive car at the dealership then have them add on a sunroof or to purchase a more expensive car with an existing sunroof from the factory? Is it still true that when you add a sunroof to an existing car they tend to leak? The same question goes for window tinting. Please help!

Sidneykitty

Question answered by Wheel Man

typically, aftermarket sunroofs are known to leak. That isn't to say that they all do. It's all about the quality of workmanship and quality of sealing material. The problem is, they have to cut a hole in the roof. Cut too big, oops..... Window tint is a different story. Aftermarket tint can be better than original equipment, and cheaper. Llumar and Solar Guard are two trusted names. Use a reputable installer, not the cheapest you can find.
