What is the demand for water softeners in Canada and/or the United States?
I'm trying to find out if there is a demand for water softeners in North America, and if there are any relevant statistics out there to support this.

If you have well water then you need a water softener for sure. Some people get them anyway because their city/town water is so bad.
Of course, this is offset by many cities and townships banning the brine waste softeners.
About how much does it cost to have a water softener installed in a home?
If you have a water softener installed or have experience in buying water softeners please give me an idea of how much it should cost for me to get a water softener installed. My home is 2400 sq ft.
I was quoted $4,000 installed. Does that sound right?

I have one in an old family farm that I rent in another state, and I am quite sure that my mother didn't pay for it when she was alive and had it installed, the water softener company put it in and she would pay a set amount each month for them to come and change the filter. That is what the tenants have continued to do. Check around on the phone and see if any of the companies still do this.

They all use basically the same technology... what your interested in is how much capacity of soft water you will require... how many people in your home... They have a chart that will tell you how big... and once you know that.. then your shopping for "grains" ... its the material that attracts the ions in the water... I bought a water softener that had 200-300 more grains for the same money some place else... watch the sunday paper.. they come on sale quite a bit... I love my softner..one of the best things Ive ever bought...
House filter in front of your softer will help some if it makes you sleep better.. but I dont think its a big deal...
How to get rid of salt in water from water softeners with a Chemical?
This is a Chemistry question from a quiz. I really need help. Water softeners add salt to your water. What Chemical would be suitable to add to the water to eliminate the salt (NaCl) from the water before drinking? People with High Blood pressure need to avoid sodium.

Question answered by David J
Reverse osmosis or an ionic resin would be the ideal way to remove sodium from water, however I don't think there is a chemical that binds or sequesters sodium. All sodium salts are soluable in water, soluability rules say so.

How to set old water softener to regenerate during the day?
My water softener is old and loud. Can I make it regenerate during the day instead of the middle of the night?
b y
Question answered by 30yr homeowner
It depends on the make, model and year of your softener. most water softeners have programmable regeneration.
The firsts step would be to locate the make/model on the actual unit and then Google on it to find the actual owners manual. How to program it should be in the manual. If you can not find a manual for your actual model but find one for the make of the unit they often have the same programming.
Good luck!
I have really hard water and am wondering if a Kintetico water softener is a good brand?
I know I need a water softener but just am not sure which brand to buy. Is Kinetico a good brand of water softeners?
Blaine
Question answered by James
Kinetico is one of the best brands of water softeners on the market, others are of their equal, such as Culligan water softeners, however Kinetico water softeners have a great record when it comes to working for a long time and not having to be serviced as often as some others.
What is the difference between a water softener and a water conditioner?
can a water softener do the same thing as a water conditioner? we have slightly high levels of iron and maganese(?sp)
Thanks
tpcarpro
Question answered by Steve in NC
A water softener only removes only the water hardness (Calcium and Magnesium) and replaces the hardness with sodium (or potassium in some units). A water conditioner may perform other functions such as iron and/or manganese removal, suspended solids removal or any other type of "conditioning" of the water. Sometimes the terms are used interchangeably but they are really technically not the same.
I have a water softener that is breeding fruit flies / gnats. Any answers for getting rid of the problem?
The water softener is in a closet and seems to be breeding them like crazy. I have tried every "gnat" and "flying insect" spray on the market. Nothing seems to work. I can't very well get rid of my softener but does anyone know of something I can do to fix the problem?

Question answered by joe r
The water softener shouldnt breed insects.
I would look around the unit, It comes to mind that if there is some rotting/dryrot close to it that would be a better answer
