After you eat fried fish do you ever feel you just can't get enough water to drink?

(Water those fish!!) I guess our's were just a tad too salty today but they sure were good.

fishineasy™

Question answered by dumdum

You know, I've noticed that same oddity when eating fish. For the rest of the evening I seem to want a lot of water to drink. But I'm sure it is just because of the seasoning or the salt .Can't be just because it is fish, can it?

How can cold water leak into the hot water pipes and then back into the hot water heater?

Cold water is leaking into the hot water pipe(s) and then back into our hot water heater, the water heater will only have hot water for about 20 minutes before turning into ice cold water (we live in Ohio and it is winter, so the water is cold coming into the house). We have put a valve on the hot water pipe to shut the hot water off temporarily and so the water can heat up and we may take showers, do laundry, dishes, etc. However, how can the cold water be crossing lines and going into the hot lines, then drain into the hot water heater? Thanks. The water heater and all elements of the water heater are new, only 1 month old. Someone else suggested replacing the washers on all of the sinks, could that be a solution? We have two baths with mixer taps and the kitchen sink with a mixer tap.

Question answered by walmeis

This could be caused by one or more problems in the water heater. It is extremely unlikely to be a plumbing problem—though that could be the cause if some yahoo changed the pipes. 1. The most likely cause is that the water heater's "dip tube" (like http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202735847/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=dip+tube&storeId=10051#.US4uKCB132M ) is not installed, fallen out, or worn through. It is installed under the inlet (cold supply) nipple to direct incoming water to the bottom of the tank without mixing with the uppermost layer of hot water. 2. It could be that the water heater's thermostat(s), heating elements (electric), or burner (gas) have partially malfunctioned. Inspect for obvious problems and, not seeing those, test their function—if you are handy—or call a professional. 3. If the water heater has not been maintained, the tank could be full of sediment which decreases its capacity. Periodically (at least once every six months), fully open the little faucet at the bottom and let the water run out carrying whatever accumulation there is. If there is no flow, replace the water heater—it is solidly compacted. 4. Unlikely, but if the water heater is on a scheduled demand timer, maybe the timer's time-of-day is messed up or the programming is off. * * * additional opinion based on new details * * * If the cold water problem was occurring before the water heater was replaced, it must be a plumbing issue. Is there a hot/cold crossover anywhere? If so, shut it off. If the cold water problem is new or significantly worse since the water heater was replaced, the dip tube was not properly installed. Turn off the tank inlet, unscrew the nipple at the inlet, and check the dip tube installation. If it is absent, check the link (in step 1 above) for a replacement.

How much water would it take to supply the water deprived people in Africa?

How much water would it take to supply the water deprived people in Africa? Thanks!

Question answered by Clackspimon

water usage is not a flat number, as it is used to make a littany of products and provides a smorgasbord of services. you cannot say "i am supplied" when you have 30 gallons of water, unless 29.99 gallons means certain death

How to turn water back on at summer home with gas water heater?

Is water turned on at valve first and then what is done to the hot water heater to let water in. Finally how do you light pilot light on water heater?

Eleanor

Question answered by Wilson

First turn all faucets off with the exception of the outdoor spigot. That will keep you from flooding the house and don't forget the clothes washer if the hoses were removed as part of the winterizing. Don't forget the water heater drain either. The water heater inlet shutoff should not have been closed but check it anyway. The reason it would be open is that when it was drained for the winterizing, the vacuum from draining it could have been strategically used to pull the remaining water from the rest of the pipes. Check that it's shutoff is open. Turn the water on and quickly check that nothing is running into the floor. Now before lighting the water heater or even a cigarette for that matter, Bleed the air from the system from each faucet until a steady stream of water comes out. Be careful with flames during this process since hydrogen can build up in water systems over a shutdown period. After the water heater has filled back up, remove the burner cover, turn the gas valve to pilot and push down on it and light the pilot with a long match. Keep holding the knob down for 45 seconds to give it time to heat the thermocouple bulb.

What water should iuse during my weekly water change in my fish tank?

During my regular weekly water changes, should i use tap water for a fresh water aquarium. Off course de-chlorinated one. But is it true that we have to use stale water, like 2-3 day old water?

Amol

Question answered by Akeath

As long as you treat it with dechlorinator, you can use it straight from the tap without having to let it sit. Some people will let it sit, stale water as you call, to allow time for the chlorine to leave the water, so that they don't have to use a dechlorinator. However, now that many tap water companies put chloramine in, that won't go out of the water no matter how long it sits, this method of making water safe for a fish tank is no longer practical or reliable. Its better to simply treat it with a dechlorinator that takes care of chlorine/chloramines and put it in right after that.

How does water storage minimise water loss in plants?

How to utilize waste water obtained after water purification by reverse osmosis method at home?

The water purifier we are using at our home is producing gallons of waste water.

RO is rather benign, and its products could likely be used to water plants. Brine water softeners are another matter. Even so, that water could be used to flush toilets.

How does water pollution affect households and local residents?

How does water pollution affect area businesses? How does water pollution affect our government at the local, state, and national levels? How does water pollution affect the rest of the world? How does water pollution affect resources, goods and services, and finances?

Daisia M

Question answered by Calm and Rational

First of all. Pollution is a negative externality. Negative externality is where production or consumption a item result in a external cost which is bared by a third party. How does water pollution affect area businesses? If local industry is farming, farmer would not be able to use the water for farming purpose. They would have to import clean water or install water filter to clean the polluted water. Therefore increasing their cost of production and making them less competitive. How does water pollution affect our government at the local, state, and national levels? Water pollution may cause illness and diseases. As a result, population will start getting ill. Therefore, productivity of workforce will decrease. As productivity decrease, national output (GDP) will decrease. Furthermore, in country such as the UK where government provides healthcare, the cost of providing health care will go up. How does water pollution affect the rest of the world? Similar situation as above. Water pollution means governments around the world will have to spend money cleaning up the pollution. How does water pollution affect resources, goods and services, and finances? As government divert funding to clean up the pollution. Opportunity cost will arise. I.e there will be a trade off between cleaning up pollution or reducing tax. Therefore, fund may be allocated to a more productive project like building roads or hospital rather than cleaning up a cost imposed by a third party. Hope this helps.

When mixing antifreeze with water, how important is it to use DISTILLED water?

Can tap water, or bottled spring water be used instead? Yeah, it takes a special antifreeze, but we figured that out already. Thanks for the answers.

Gaia Raain

Question answered by realitycheck

Buy the 50/50 it already has the distilled in it. And its very important because tap water and mineral water etc will corrode the inside of your radiator and engine with nasty mineral deposits and eventually ruin your cooling system.

Can I water my outdoor plants and flowers with my well water?

We cannot drink the water. It was not recommended anyway by a water purification company. We buy gallons of water to cook with and drink. Apparently the well water has a high sulfur content in it and we cannot consume it. Can I water my outdoor plants with it being it does come from the same ground the plants and flowers grow in?

Nikke

Question answered by diy Guy

You certainly can use that water for irrigation Most "irrigation wells" are simply shallow wells that may not meet drinking standards, but are fine for watering crops (or flowers). If your water is too acidic, it may cause some issues with certain plants that like "sweeter" soil, but unless you have thousands of dollars invested in your landscape and house plants, I would just let it rip and see what happens
