How to transport alcohol in California when 21 or over?
Do you have to transport alcohol in the trunk or can it be in the compartment of the vehicle? I always thought it had to be in the trunk open or unopened but some friends told me if it is unopened it can be in the compartment. Is this true?

Ignore the duck. It's just plain wrong.
Here's the law:
23225. (a) (1) It is unlawful for the registered owner of any motor
vehicle to keep in a motor vehicle, when the vehicle is upon any
highway or on lands, as described in subdivision (b) of Section
23220, any bottle, can, or other receptacle containing any alcoholic
beverage that has been opened, or a seal broken, or the contents of
which have been partially removed, unless the container is kept in
the trunk of the vehicle.
(2) If the vehicle is not equipped with a trunk the bottle, can, or other receptacle described in
paragraph (1) shall be kept in some other area of the vehicle that is
not normally occupied by the driver or passengers. For the purposes
of this paragraph, a utility compartment or glove compartment shall
be deemed to be within the area occupied by the driver and
passengers.
(3) [...]
(b) Subdivision (a) is also applicable to a driver of a motor
vehicle if the registered owner is not present in the vehicle.
So you can transport open containers in a vehicle, you just can't transport them where you can put your grubby hands on them. And if they are unopened, then you can transport them in your lap if you like (after all, how the heck else would you get the beer home from the store?)
And just for giggles, it is not illegal to possess a firearm in California, there is no crime in California called "brandishing a lethal weapon," merely having a firearm in your vehicle in plain view is not brandishing it in any sense of the word, there's no crime in California called "concealing a deadly weapon" as it relates to a vehicle and depending on the type of firearm, you can legally carry it concealed in a vehicle without a permit.
What phrase describes the electron transport chain in photosynthesis?
What phrase describes the electron transport chain in photosynthesis?
A. A chain of photosynthetic proteins located in the storma
B. A collection of enzymes used to make ADP
C. A series of proteins located in the thylakoid membrane
D. A group of enzymes that carries energy to the Calvin Cycle
Reira
Question answered by redblitz528
I'm pretty sure the electron transport chain is in the thylakoid not the stroma and it produces ATP not ADP. So I dont think its either A or B. Since protein complexes on the thylakoid membrane are involved in driving the electron transport chain I think the answer is C though I'm not 100% sure.
What is the difference between passive transport and active transport in cells?
What is the difference between passive transport and active transport in cells?
Give at least 1 detailed example of each.

Question answered by mgmandthelionsroar
Passive Transport is the process of molecules moving from a higher concentration to a lower concentration to reach equilibrium
an example would be osmosis.
-water moves through a plasma membrane
-puts the cell in 3 types of solutions
1. isotonic solution: same concentration of solutes as the cell, nothing happened
2. hypertonic solution: concentration of solutes is higher on the outside than the inside of the cell, cell shrinks
3.hypotonic solution: the solute is at a higher concentration inside the cell than outside, so water moves into the cell and it swells.
Active transport is the movement of molecules which goes against the concentration gradient (low to high) and it needs ATP.
an example would be carrier assisted transport which uses carrier proteins to move molecules against the concentration gradient, example:sodium potassium ion pump
-3 sodium ions bind to the pump, a phosphate group (from ATP) also binds to the pump
-the pump changes shape, transporting the 3 soidum ions acros the cell membrane, the sodium ions are released outsid ethe cell
-2 potassium ions (outside the cell) bind to the pump, the potassium ions are transported across the cell membrane
-the phosphate group is released and the two potassium ions are released inside the cell.
How much would it cost to transport a puppy from Russia to California?
How much would it cost to transport a puppy from Russia to California or from Ukraine to California. Also, which airlines should i use?
yelena M
Question answered by Roger K
There is no way to answer this question other than to say that it will cost quite a lot of money.
Any airline that flies dogs and cats can set their own fees for providing that service. The airline can also set its own rules about the maximum size/weight of dog that they permit in the cabin (if they permit that at all). If your puppy is too large/heavy - the it must go as cargo.
Are you going to fly on the same planes as the puppy, or will the puppy be sent as unaccompanied cargo? That makes a difference as well.
You need to go to any of the dozens of travel sites on the internet and enter the departure airport (where ever you or the dog will start from), and the arrival airport in California and some dates. Whatever flights show up will tell you which airlines offer service between those two points.
It may also be very useful to pick flights between your Russian or Ukrainian departure point to some intermediate destination, like London, Paris, Amsterdam and so on, then find flights from that intermediate city to your CA destination. That may give you a larger range of choices of airlines
This will certainly end up being a multi-stop flight, with several connections, quite possibly on different airlines. That makes pet transport much more difficult. If you pet is traveling as cargo, then you end up having to rely on the airline personnel to take care of the puppy - provide food, water and deal with waste. They also have to be sure to get the puppy from one connecting flight to another. Depending on schedules (and especially weather at the moment), there may be 12 or more hours between planes. Where does your dog go during that time?
With long layovers, there may be issues with health requirements for the countries in which the layovers occur. You need to find out about that.
You certainly need to look into the requirements for importing a dog into the US. Start here:
http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/animals/animal_import/animal_imports_pets.shtml
When you think you have a possible route worked out on one or more airlines, then you MUST call each airline and find out:
1) Do they transport dogs
2) How much will it cost for the flights involved
3) What health certificates and information do they require in order to permit your pet on board. Note that this requirement is different from the US import requirements.
4) How are connecting flights handled
5) What happens if a flight is delayed
6) What happens if you miss the connecting flight, or it is canceled
7) What about food, water and waste
You must ask those question of _every_ different airline involved in the whole journey. The information you get from one may not apply at all to the next.
You have tons of work to do in order to accomplish this.
Or - you could hire a professional pet transport company to handle all of the details for you - at many times the cost that the airlines would charge you.
Be aware that a trip like this will <<not>> be a kind thing to do to a puppy. They may end up staying for at least 24 hours in a cage - probably away from you - handled and looked after by total strangers - in a situation and environment that it cannot _ever_ understand.
Also be aware that pets do die sometimes while being flown form place to place.
Think _very carefully_ if you want to make that puppy go through the trauma that such a trip will require.

Most of what I found deals with convict transportation and that is not what you look for I guess, best to approach the Ministry of Transportation and ask them for referrals.

Make a table with one column being for similarities and the other for differences. Then go to your text book and read about transport systems.
Especially look up blood and the circulatory system (for animals). eg. Blood is used to transport gases and wastes.
The transport system in plants is the xylem and phloem for transporting nutrients, water and gases.

What is the link between passive transport and diabetes?
How does diabetes interfere with passive transport? I know it's something to do with the insulin letting the glucose through.
klenole
Question answered by micksmixxx
The link between passive transport and diabetes is to do with facilitated diffusion. This occurs when large molecules are 'transported' through the cell membrane using proteins embedded within the cell membrane. It requires insulin to 'unlock' the cell membrane so that glucose can pass through. i.e. insulin acts as a sort of key, allowing the cell membrane to open, as though it were a door.
The following web page explains passive transport quite well, though it doesn't use the example of insulin as I have.
How do I safely transport eight foot-long goldfish 1300 miles to my new home?
I have some rather large goldfish, that I'm pretty attached to but don't know how to safely transport them. I won't be moving for a little while but I want to get as much information as possible before I have to move. Driving it would be about 19 hours with no stops.
I meant eight gold fish that are each about a foot long, not one goldfish that is eight feet. That would be a little crazy.

here is an article that outlines how to transport your fish. It involves using coolers and garbage bags, and stated the max amt of time the fish can survive in these conditions are 48 hours. Please read this thoroughly, and with such large fish, you will need to use a couple of coolers and will need to transport a large amount of the water. I hope you are using a moving van with a lot of room. I hope this is useful, and good luck to you & your precious cargo in your new home!
