How long do i have to spend on a sunbed before i get a dark brown tan?
Iv hired out a sunbed for 4 weeks.
I have fair-ish skin and have been advised to use it for 8 minutes each side.

How much is it costing you? You'd be better off getting a real tan, while enjoying yourself on holiday. Why pay someone to give you skin cancer when you can pay for a holiday and get some real fun out of it, with a good holiday story to go with the tan. You should be proud of your natural skin tone and be looking after it, not damaging it with the sunbeds. I have seen girls that go on sunbeds and i'd rather be my natural colour than to look like a piece of over-cooked steak
DO YOU STILL GET A TAN UNDER THE SUNBED IF YOU HAVE FAKE TAN ON?
i got a sunbed out ion hire for 6weeks i have st tropez fake tan on will i still get a tan under the sunbed with fake tan on?

Question answered by brockmichaels81
Yes, because the fake tan only colours the op layer of skin. Tanning goes down several layers.
Happy Tanning =)
Is it true that if you use a sunbed it stops you from tanning in the sun?
I was going to hire one so I could get a base tan before my hols but now I don't know what to do!

Question answered by Andrea
no you'll still tan. keep in mind, however, that tanning beds emit 2-3x more Ultraviolet A rays than the sun. although tanning bed manufacturers claim that tanning beds are safe since their UVB rays are weaker than the sun, the stronger UVA rays make tanning beds more dangerous than the sun since UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the skin than UVB rays.
Where can I buy an inexpensive beach umbrella from the UK that is portable?
I hate paying to hire umbreallas on the beach and would like to know where I can buy an inexpensive portable one from the UK that I can take abroad
Thanks very much

Question answered by Pompal
Why not buy one when you get abroad? Not only will it probably be cheaper than buying one in the UK, but will also save you transporting it. At the end of your 7/14 day holiday you can give/sell it to someone else. I've seen people do this before not only with umbrellas but also purchasing lilo's to use instead of renting a sunbed.
I have hired a 125W sunbed to put in my garage and I want to know which are the best tanning accelerators?
I don't want to use a cream with a tint in and I don't mind using a tingle cream. I am very pale and it takes me at least a month of using it to get any kind of colour. Is this normal? I have also heard that using bryl cream makes you tan faster. Is this just a stupid myth?

Question answered by Pickle
Tanning accelerators!?! Do you really want to end up with skin cancer and/or aged skin? I would use a sunbed with serious caution and avoid using any kind of accelerator. You still should use sun cream as this will give you some protection against long-term skin damage but will not give full protection.
I'm fairly pale skinned and very proud of my complexion, I wear it very well. Having attended a recent school reunion (bearing in mind I'm only 23) I was amazed at the amount of girls (those who used to spend every waking hour on a sun lounger) who looked far older than their age.
If you are that desperate for a tan then fake bake is good. It's expensive but the price reflects the quality. At the end of the day you can scrub it off, but you cannot scrub off sun damage.
Suggestions for where my family could go on holiday?
Okay, so my family are looking into booking a weeks holiday in April 2012 - but we don't know where to go!
My mum & my sister love beach holidays. They'd quite happily just lay on a sunbed with good book.
I like a bit of that, but not for the whole holiday! Me & my dad are more into sight seeing, really getting to know where we are.
Between us we range from age 14-38. Long haul or short haul flights are fine.
Suggestions/recommendations welcome! Thanks :)

You guys should go to California. The beaches are beautiful in Malibu and very lively in Santa Monica, and Los Angeles will satisfy your 14 year old because of the nightlife, the countless things to do, and the even higher numbers of shops. California has a very diverse climate and diverse landforms which will make sightseeing Paradise for you and your father. Whether if you're into hiking, rock climbing, or just enjoying nature, you will be happy with all the mountains, deserts, lakes, and national parks.
Although, if you're mother and sister are into tropical, island paradises with light blue waters, Hawaii is for you. The beaches and coastline are amazing, and the light blue water makes you feel like you're in Heaven. Along with that, some beaches hire people to practically treat you like gods (or goddesses) by giving you drinks, pedicures, and massages. Let's not forget that soothing music!!!!! Now for you and your dad, sightseeing can stand for a lifetime. They're are tons of mountains and hills, and the tropical feel gives you a good taste of nature. The most awe-inspiring is the Mauna Kea, a giant volcano that erupts repeatedly (but you should be safe in the observatories). For the teen, Honolulu offers excellent nightlife.
well its your choice anyway so you decide

I want to open a tanning salon. What do I need to get started?
Anyone who owns or owned, what's your advice?

Question answered by smitters06
It is possible to run a tanning salon business from a variety of locations, each with their own specific set of costs. Airbrush tanning, for example, can be undertaken on a mobile basis in clients' own homes. A small car will cost around £3,000 second-hand, plus on-road costs.
You may wish to start with just one machine and run your salon from home. You will need to set aside a private room for this, and may need to notify your local authority about the change in use of the building. It is important to note that there may be costs associated with this. You may decide to set up your tanning salon from independent premises. The costs of buying and renting will vary depending on where you choose to open your salon. The premises should be large enough to divide into a number of private cubicles, as well as providing space for a reception area for waiting clients, staff quarters and store room for tanning products and equipment.
Sunbeds and spray tanning booths will constitute a major expense. Horizontal sunbeds cost from around £1,000 each, while vertical tanning booths start at around £1,500. Spray-tanning booths represent a larger investment - some top brands cost around £20,000. Many sunbed and spray-tanning booth manufacturers offer a hire purchase or leasing option for new businesses. See www.riosuntanning.co.uk/commercial.htm as an example of a commercial sunbed manufacturer.
Airbrush tanning equipment is slightly cheaper, with an air compressor, hose and tanning gun priced around £350. A four-litre bottle of tanning solution will cost from £140 depending on the strength of the solution. It will also be necessary to invest in face and eye protection for the therapist and client.
You may wish to provide a selection of towels for clients to use during and after their tanning session, as well as a range of moisturisers and solutions to aid in the development of the tan.
Other generic business costs to budget for include basic office equipment such as a PC for accounts and client records (from £500), a telephone and answer machine (from £40), public liability insurance , and costs associated with advertising and marketing activities. You will also need to factor in employers' liability insurance if you plan to take on staff.
