Local Security Equipment

Ask the community

Need help finding a company or supplier?

People into Detective novels, or those who have an idea about security equipment?

So what kind of security equipment and measures would you expect to find when you enter the office of an intelligence agency. If you have a firsthand account, it would be most helpful. Or even if you know it from novels, please let me know. Just the names and steps at least if not the description. Thanks a lot.

Question answered by No User Serviceable Parts

Been a while, but in the late 1990s, I did have to regularly visit the Security Service (MI5) in Thames House. Air lock entry control, but other than that security tending to be non-physical (thorough ID checks and being "vouched for", handing in electronic equipment etc.), I am sure there were metal detectors etc. available if required (or the threat level increased) and that was only for access to "public areas" (training rooms etc.). Getting into actual working areas would have required additional checks, but I certainly never saw any retina or fingerprint scanning equipment. They key point is who your character is and why he has to be there. Security will be layered, and visitors (unless very regular) will only be granted access to semi-public areas (meeting and training rooms etc). Staff will be subject to much more strict controls, which are likely to include technology such as fingerprint, retina or voice recognition. Also bear in mind that physical security measures tend to be pretty obvious, so unofficial properties (safe houses etc.) are likely to rely solely on "soft" security (observers etc.).

I want to start a business of Security Equipments like CCTV Cameras etc. Is there any course ?

I want to start a business of Security Equipments like CCTV Cameras etc. And as I am a fresher and a business management student , I don't have knowledge to how to install them, about their features, specifications, quality etc. Is there any course from which I can gain knowledge about these all . Or any other source ???

Well, a lot of people start businesses and not have a clue on what they are doing. If you have the capital, then hire an experienced person to do everything for you or... get a job with a company that installs security equipment (and after you have been there 5-10 years, leave and start your own company).

Question answered by T

If your company doesn't issue you it to you, you probably don't need it. Alternatively, if your company says you have to go out and spend your own money on uniforms and anything else you need for your job, tell them to pound sand and quit. If it is required, they should be providing it. Under Canadian Law, if a uniform is required for employment, the employer must provide it.

Do anybody have experience with the required wireless equipment update by home security monitoring company?

I subscribed to monitoring service with a Home Security Monitoring company. I have wireless security equipment installed. Recently they told me that the government require them to replace the analog radio tower system with digital radio tower system. This results in I need to replace my wireless security equipment as well, otherwise it won't be able to connect to the new radio tower. They charged me $100 for that. Since I'm still in a contract with them, I think I shouldn't pay that $100. So, do anybody have experience in this matter? Is the new regulation for real? Do the customers really have to pay for that required upgrade by the government regulation even when they're still in a contract? Thanks! I appreciate any inputs.

Question answered by michael g

WOW - Yeh it's for real. Our radio spectrum is FULLL. The F.C.C is making everybod switch to digital so we have more freq.'s available to us. Nextel is the biggest comp. influencing the move and the biggest beneficiary. I hate Nextel and their power in our industry. I had no idea it would effect other wireless stuff like yours. Basically they are passind their costs on to you in a big way. Complain and look for another service provider. The comp. CAN absorb the changeover costs but I guess your is trying to pass it on. The squeaky wheel............. Try saying no to em and be willing to stand your ground and go elsewhere.

Should air travelers be required to undergo Whole-body security scanning ?

Critics say the scanners are unnecessarily invasive and abuse privacy rights. The money being spend on new security equipment ,they add, would be better invested in investigation and intelligence work to detect bombers before they arrive at the airport .What do you think ? Metal detectors, yes , ID,yes.Personal search, yes. But no naked pictures of my body, please.I even prefer the dogs sniffing on me that the new machine.

Question answered by Jaz

Hello dear friend! I agree with you in some point, the scanners are like x-rays that will not show you a naked body, only your squeleton. It would detect only ordinary objects. I think the best way to spend the money on security advance technology is by scanning the human eye, which identify who you really are!! Have a wonderful evening!!

What can our Store do about shoplifters?

Here's the quick of it, I work at an antique store, and it’s about 12,000 sqft. We have a front, back and side entrance. The Checkout is located in the middle of the store. From the checkout, the entrances are not visible to me. The owner is an elderly gentlemen who almost refuses to spend any money on security equipment. The shoplifting is starting to occur way more often. I love my job and all the dealers I sell for. I want to help if I can. I would like any suggestions on shoplifter deterrents. Please help. Thank you.

Question answered by Richard S

You're not going to improve anything without spending money. I'd recommend cameras (even dummy ones, as only a deterrent) and security guards (again, a deterrent if noting else). You say it's an antique store, suggesting that valuable things are being stolen, meaning that even if you spend a lot of money of security equipment, you'll probably save money in the long-term.

Anyone know of a service that will mail out either letters or postcards to my clients on a one on one basis?

I run a business that installs security equipment in homes. I'd like a service that will send out a thank you card to the customer and ask for referral business - I don't want just email, which I already have. Any good recommendations?

I have used this company before. Just email them and they can give you all the specs on what they can do. They can mail out postcards and/or letters to individual customers for you. This is their email... dazoomcity@hotmail.com

How do I secure a closed room?

I am trying to figure out a website where I can search for security equipment. I work in a closed room where there everyone is working on classified information. The room is actually 2 long hallways and there are 3 doors. How do I make sure that the last person secures the room (locks all doors, runs through a checklist)? Anyone can leave out of any door. I need to make sure the last person is in charge and knows they are the last person out of the hall. I would appreciate something really technologically advanced or even a website.

Question answered by W G

If this is for the U.S. Government, all of this information you are asking is all related to physical security and this should be handled by your physical security officer in your organization. You need devices called X.09 locks, security alarms, and/or motion detectors. If you are the physical security officer, you need serious training. Contact your higher headquarters to see who they train through. There are specific security forms for people to sign as they leave the rooms (SF-701s and SF-702s, I believe they are) for daily checklists and signing classified rooms open and closed. Call a vendor, such as Honeywell or ADT to have them come out to your site to discuss what is required based on the classification of the data you are trying to secure. They are the second place to go - after you contact your higher headquarters or talk to the organization with whom you are securing the data for.

How many billions of tax dollars would our government have to?

spend on weapons, if all national security threats were eliminated? How much money would you be ok with being spent on national security equipment if you already knew there was no threat, because you were already secure? What would that do to most of America's manufacturing jobs, that haven't moved to China? <<part of absolute security is self sufficiency >> Of course it is, but we both know that isn't going to happen as long as long as Americans demand a higher wage than communist laborers in China huh? but that is only a smidgeon of the overall problem.

Question answered by whrldpz

Our government is very paranoid so the spending will only increase in the future. The US has 5% of the population but spends 50% of the military dollars in the world. Our leaders are addicted to war. Even without a threat, scams will be cooked up to wag the dog and create panic and mistrust against another nation, culture or military regime. For the manufacturing jobs to return the unions would have to start a no trade and no buy campaign directed against China and other countries. First they would have to pass laws in each state to keep the state governments from using foreign companies for goods and services.

How do I get rid of this virus?

It has disabled all my security programs by saying they are infected. And it wants me to download new security equipment. I opened the computer and safe mode and scanned it but it didn't find anything. How do I get rid of it?

Question answered by computer addict

I'm assuming that your using Windows XP I'm not sure if it will work on Vista. 0. Download CCleaner at http://www.ccleaner.com 1. Download MalwareBytes, Avira AntiVir, and Spyware Terminator (Don't integrate Clam Win) at http://www.download.com 2.Update them 3.Restart your computer 4. Press F8 right when your computer powers up. 5.Select Safe Mode. 6.Do a full scan with everything at once. 7. Quarantine the threats found. (On Spyware Terminator remove the threats and only remove critical threats) 8.Wait until each program is done quarantining the threats, and wait until Spyware Terminator is done removing the threats, then run CCleaner for both things it offers 9.Restart the computer normally. 10. Celebrate if your computer is fixed! If you can't download the software on your computer regularly then do steps 3 and 4 then do step 5 but, instead of selecting Safe Mode select Safe Mode With Networking. Then do steps 0-9. in order while your on safe mode with networking. Also if it's not your computer then uninstall the software when your done and the virus is fixed. Note: I cannot be responsible for any damage done to your computer while doing my advice. Email me at birthdayfan@hotmail.com for any other techy advice. :-) P.S. BluePoint and especially System Restore would be good ideas.
