I live in Vancouver (Canada) and there's a ton of Chinese restaurants here. All the Chinese restaurants have menus in both Chinese and English, and I've never seen any Chinese restaurants aimed at only Chinese or only western guests. The restaurant owners are probably used to seeing all kinds of people here, including Indians, Koreans, etc. A lot of westerners here can use chopsticks. It's not even surprising anymore. As for variety, there are too many to count. I have tried everything from dim sum to Vietnamese pho, Korean BBQ, sushi, and more. There are also many restaurants serving Sichuan, Taiwanese, Thai, and Malaysian food. Then there are Chinese restaurants serving Chinese versions of Vietnamese, Japanese and western foods. I have even been to a Korean restaurant where they served a Korean version of Chinese food. For some strange reason many sushi restaurants here are owned by Koreans. I think the Chinese population of Vancouver is around 20%, so Chinese restaurants are everywhere. The Richmond area in particular is about 44% Chinese.

How do I convince my 4 year old child to go to a different restaurant other than Chinese? Help me.?

For some reason we always end up going to her favorite restaurant , Chinese. It beats listening to her whine and I just want to get the family fed. I want to do Mexican and I know she likes it, but she's being uncooperative. How should I handle this situation?

Ronni

Question answered by Michelle M

She is four and you are the parent. You don't need to convince her of anything, because she is not (or should not be) the one who has the authority to make the final decision. If you give in to her whining and manipulation now, imagine what the scene will look like when she is 14. Ugh.

How do I make restaurant style Chinese chicken fried rice?

I've tried recipes from around the web and even youtube. But something is MISSING! It never tastes like it does from the restaurant! WHY?? I tried adding some sesame oil, I tried oyster sauce, garlic powder, and sugar over the top of the rice. But something is still missing! What are the actual ingrediants that go into restaurant style Chinese Chicken friend rice? Is the secret double black soy sauce? Prefer an answer from a restaurant owner or an actual chinese/asian person who knows how to make it correctly.

Why do white people accept all other races over the black race ?

I don't only mean America but the whole world. Everybody who is not black can own a business in a white neighborhood (ex. Mexican restaurants, Indian restaurants, Chinese restaurants etc...) But these same white people (who accept gay marriage etc...) won't support a black restaurant or a black corner store. I don't know why a lot of people are saying that racism is over because there is a black president ?

Question answered by MixedMamita1990

It's not just white people but all races. Like me, Im mixed and well Mixed people usually prefer one race over the other. I know many Mexicans who willl accept whites over blacks, and even some accept whites and blacks over other Latinos such as Guatemalans, etc. It's crazy. Personally who gives a fuck. Why should race or color or nationality or whatever matter? Nobody chooses to be born American, Mexican, Chinese, white, black, brown, Caucasian, African, Chicano, European, Asian, etc. We all look pretty much the same on the inside and well all races have their gays, their gangsters, their thugs, their jailbirds, their killers, etc. Oh and Obama is not "black" he is BLACK AND WHITE. He is MIXED. He is only 50/50. And really if you research it I think at least 5 other presidents HAD BLACK ANCESTORS. Not that race matter but people are so ignorant. Who cares if the president is black or white or pink or whatever. As long as he can do his job that is all that matters. I mean come on. I mean I can see like in a Mexican or Chinese mostly Mexicans or Chinese people working there, that's pretty obvious and well I have seen whites/blacks work in Mexican restaurants. Stop making race an issue. That is why we still have racism because PEOPLE STILL BRING UP THE RACE CARD.

Are there any American restaurants in foreign countries?

In America, there are ethnic restaurants. Italian restaurants, French restaurants, Chinese restaurants, etc. Are there American restaurants in other countries? Could you send me links? Don't say McDonalds or any fast food place.

Question answered by Mario

"american" food is realy just english food mixed with random quisine from other countryes and deepfried, I grew up in italy, in an area were the only fastfood (mc donalds) was the only one within 30 km, going to mc D. was like going out for dinner with the family, in my case it was 12 km away from my house, witch in italy is a lot. real nativ american food is a different story, i cant immagin a native american resturant abroad, actualy,,, i cant immagin a native american restaurant at all, not even in canada were i live, i tink nativs dident have time to waste on food, they just ate whatever did the job of kipping them strong.

This is sort of a common place question but can vegans eat thai food?

I'm going out with a friend tonight that I haven't seen in three years. He told me he's a vegan now and quite alright with the fact I'm not. I'm trying to think of vegan restaurants close by but there isn't anything within a normal driving distance. I've found several Asian restaurants (Chinese, Asian, Japanese) but I don't know if these are considered vegan friendly places. Anyone know about this kind of situation? :-/

aminoinnocentia

Question answered by Charlie149

Yes, there is Thai food that is vegan. As with any restaurant, you need to order carefully and ask questions, but there are plenty of non-animal Thai food options. After all, there are lots of Buddhists in South Asia, so it's not a foreign concept to them.

There are very few Buffet style restaurants in SF proper. Most restaurants cook to order in The City. I'm not a fan of Japanese food but a lot of my friends like Sanraku. They have two locations one on Sutter near Taylor and the other in the Metreon center at 4th and Mission. My favorite Chinese Henry’s Hunan at 674 Sacramento, on Battery at Broadway or between 2nd and New Montgomery and Harrison and Folsom south of Market near the MOMA. - Great Chinese don’t miss Diana’s Meat Pie Tai Chi on Polk at Broadway has the best General's Tso's Chicken just the right combo of sweet, hot and garlic. They also do really good shrimp won ton soup and sizzling beef and scallops. Moderately priced dim sum at City View restaurant on Commerical at Kearny. Cheap dim sum is Louie's on Stockton at Broadway. Best hargow and pork buns in the city! Take out only
