What restaurants are not losing quality to save money?
In the past few months I have noticed that restaurants are using cheaper cuts of meat for steaks and filling our drinks with so much ice that when it melts your coke or whatever it is is so watery that you can't drink it (no free refills). This has happened in many restaurants in Austin, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi. If anyone knows any good chains or restaurants in these areas please let me know.

Lets take the drinks first. They should not think they are saving money on watering down soft drinks. The syrup only costs a couple cents so ask them for no ice (hell, it's winter time). If they do not offer free refills, I would no longer visit that restaurant.
As for the cuts of meat, are you saying that they are substituting a different cut or a lower quality meat? If it is a different cut, they are misrepresenting the meat being served and is illegal in most states. If they are using a lower grade of meat, it is legal but they will lose long term customers. What I think here is that they have changed beef suppliers which gives a lower grade. Ask the manager if that is the case and mention that the meat is tougher or is not as tasty. As for other restaurants, to try, you might go after the national chains like Outback or Black Angus orr Lawry's (I believe you have one in Dallas),. Of course you can try the premium locations like Ruth Chriss or Mortons but make sure you have plenty in your wallet.
Do Restaurants usually hire more during the holiday season?
I've been trying to get a job at a restaurant and have been having a hard time finding one that's hiring. I know most retail stores hire for seasonal workers so I'm wondering if restaurants usually do this as well. Also I know restaurant business slows down after Christmas, but how much? Anybody know? Thanks!

I spent the entire holiday season of 2007, job searching. It was also my first semester in college. The resaurants by me claim to hire for the holiday season. You can always walk-in and ask a manager. Our economy isn't good right now, so the restaurants who are "accepting applications" are probably getting large amounts of applications in.
I find getting a job at a restaurant extremely difficult. I have volunteer work experience, present myself prefect, and I couldn't get a job at any restaurant. The restaurants near me never stop hiring college students, but they wouldn't look at me.
What restaurants will hire a person to hostess at 16 or 17?
I am looking for a new job hopefully in a restaurant. I currently work in retail and I am looking for a place that will hire me to hostess mostly on the weekends. I live in Franklin/Nashville, Tennessee if that helps with what restaurants are around here.

Culver's minimum hiring age is 14 with a workers permit.
I called many stores because I am looking for a job. This was the response they gave which makes me happy after looking for so long.
Find a local one go online and apply and go in store to apply or call and ask if they are hiring.
What I did was Google a bunch of business near my home and found their numbers using Google maps or their sites and I called and directly asked if they are hiring and what age do they hire at.
Try local grocery stores, pizza parlors, retail stores, fast food restaurants.

Compass restaurant on the upper west side. My favorite restaurant. I think it's fairly priced. But I think price is a personal definition. Mention to your g/f that Compass restaurant was once used in an eposide of Sex and the City. Maybe she'll be thrilled, if she's a fan.

Girlfriend wants to take me to a restaurant but I hate restaurants?
I avoid restaurants are several reasons. Their foods can be very unhealthy, they are high in sodium, they are expensive, etc. She wants to go to one with me but I try to avoid restaurants as much as possible. How do I tell her?

I would ask why she wants to go to a restaurant. I think most people see going "out" is special. Maybe let her know if she wants to do something special, she can cook you a nice home cooked meal.
How much do restaurants pay for the fish they cook ?
Where do restaurants buy their fish from ? How much ?
That's Miss B to you!
Question answered by Clara Theron
When I was a manager of a restaurant at the coast we bought our fish fresh from the small fishermen at the docking jetty.
We paid them Cash for his whole catch, so depending on what he caught, he would set a price for his day's labor.
But what is more important is that most restaurants have a 100% to 150% mark-up on their food.
Now work out what your restaurant paid for their fish....

How do authentic Mexican Restaurants season ground beef?
I love to eat authentic Mexican food and would like to make restaurant quality dishes. How do Mexican restaurants season the ground beef that they use for tacos, etc? Also, I'd like a good queso blanco recipe. Any help?

Question answered by lauren s
authentic mexican restaurants do not use ground beef, they use shredded, cubed or whatever from the piece of meat, but not ground. spices often used in mexican cooking are various chiles for red & green sauces -- hot or mild --cumin, salt, garlic, chocolate for moles...
What is the average percentage of credit card sales of restaurants?
In restaurants like Max's, Aristocrat or Pancake House, what percentage of their sales are paid through credit cards?
rainyraine
Question answered by k c
Figures disclosed by the Credit Card Association of the Philippines (CCAP) pegs the local penetration rate at somewhere around 4.5 % to 5.0%.
The figure undoubtedly was arrived at based on the total cardholder base of each CCAP member. But wait! What happens if there are people who hold multiple credit cards from different card issuer.
Practically everybody I know who owns a credit card would have at least 2 in his or her wallet. So if you take out the duplicates, I think the actual credit card penetration rate would be closer to 3% (or even less).
and not all credit card owners are using their credit cards all the time;
so, i think the percentage of sales are paid through credit cards for restaurants like Max's, Aristocrat or Pancake House...
are below 2% ...

I can only speak for Manchester (not a resident but visitor.)
Manchester has a great China Town with budgets to suit all.
There is also a great Gay area near the canal that has fabulous restaurants.Near the railway station.
