How is the removal of the ban on women in combat roles in the US military gonna work?

Pardon my ignorance on this issue, I'm from overseas, but I've been hearing today that the US government have removed the law that bans women from joining combat billets in the US military, however the US military still has some degree of autonomy on the issue, correct me if I'm wrong. Does this basically mean some roles in the military are going to open up for women, but they will still reserve some for men? For example, they're gonna open up artillery and armor, but keep infantry and special ops closed. Or the Army will open up all its jobs, but the Marines won't or vice versa. Just to note: I'm not interested in an argument on the ethics of whether it's a right move or a wrong move, I've heard both sides of the argument many times before, I'm just curious to what the ban being lifted actually entails?

Between now and 2016 they will run evaluation courses to determine the likelihood and actual percentage of women who make it through the now closed MOS training courses to determine the feasibility. Then will make recommendations to Congress who will then permanently open them or keep the status quo. My bet? So few will make it that it will not be worth the wasted effort or time...and the status quo will remain. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/10/…

Do we need to send any passport-style photos for the removal of conditions?

My wife and I are removing the conditions on her residency. We have read it on several sites that applicants have to submit 2 passport-style photos. I was wondering if this is necessary? I didn't find any information about this in the I-751 instructions. It only says it is for people residing overseas but how will she get a new green card without sending a photo? Is it going to be taken at the biometrics appointment?

Jo

Photos in green card is taken at Biometrics. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?autocom=custom&page=751guide

How to find a good property management company in Houston? What services do property managers offer?

I bought a house ( closure is in process) I need to rent it out and I am looking for a good property management company in Houston. What do these guys do ? Where do I find them? I am working overseas and I cannot personally visit the property every other month. What should I do?

Alpha Bravo Charlie

Question answered by magnolia

Type in "property manager" houston and you'll see a listing of several companies. A property manager is a person or firm charged with operating a real estate property for a fee, when the owner is unable to personally attend to such details, or is not interested in doing so. Typical jobs include finding/evicting and generally dealing with tenants, home repair, home improvement, cleaning, garden maintenance, landscaping and snow removal, to be coordinated with the owner's wishes. Such arrangements may require the property manager to collect rents, and pay necessary expenses and taxes, making periodic reports to the owner, or the owner may simply delegate specific tasks and deal with others directly. A property manager may arrange for a wide variety of services, as may be requested by the owner of the property, for a fee.

Why do people afraid of buying American view the ever growing trade deficit as good for America?

Also, why are they so willing to send US tax dollars to comapnies overseas?

Chi Guy

Question answered by Puddin Head

For the same reason that we have a leader who is looking out more for Europe and other countries before the country who elected him. Why are the unions not raising hell over Obama's crapping on them over the proposed removal of the buy American clause in the stimulus package?

How do modern day Army men fly home from war?

I am writing a story involving a man that comes home from war and I was wondering if anyone had any information that could help me. I am basically clueless. I'm wondering if they fly home on a private jet, or a regular plane... Are they aloud to bring cell phones? And is there any Army position that would not require the removal of hair? I apologize if the answers are obvious and you're currently rolling your eyes at the screen but any type of information would really help :) Thanks!

Megan

Question answered by MesoM

Actually: all RECRUITS get haircuts.... then afterwards if you're allowed some kind of hair (within regulations). And yes, the exception is special forcesl operators or reservists when they aren't drilling. They can fly home on either commercial airliner or military transport. But the Army also can return home on ships... in fact they operate their own transport vessel... called the HSV-2. It was originally Navy but now the Army operates it. As for cell phones... they aren't supposed to bring them. And most of them wouldn't work overseas anyways.... unless it's a satellite phone.

If you've a whole household load of furniture and stuff, use a removal company. They'll pack, store, ship and deliver from door-to-door. Of course the charges are a lot more than if you were to do it yourself. BUT it is much more convenient as they do all the customs clearance and paperwork which is complicated. They will also coordinate the timing of delivery and advise you what you've to bring with you while waiting for your things to arrive at the destination. Of course, the more things you relocate with you, the more it'll cost. Shipping by sea is more economical and is often the choice especially if you have even half a container load of stuff. Shipping by air is costed by weight whereas shipping by sea is usually costed according to volume. Don't take common eletrical appliances with you. You can take family heirlooms (furniture) since they've sentimental value and are one of a kind. Get rid of things you don't use already. This way you'll cut down to the essentials and spend less. Of course shipping time is quoted in weeks by sea and in days by air and trucking if pick-up and destination locations are inland or not in the immediate vicinity of international seaports/airports. So you can see it can get very complicated doing it yourself. Before you leave, make sure you get the local contact of the removal company's partnering agency in the country where you're headed for as you'll need to liaise with them on shipping clearance and delivery details. If you're asking about luggage weight limit, it varies from airline to airline and aircraft type for that journey. I'd say between 15kg to 20kg is allowed per person. If you exceed, you will have to pay extra. I've listed some websites with relocating tips. Hope this helps.

Question answered by e m

I live overseas too and I had my gallbladder removed about 5 years ago. The doctor told my husband that I should avoid eating fatty foods for about 3 months. During those 3 months I lost a lot of weight due to the fact that I was eating only boiled food.

what are the pro arguments for fresh water removal from great lakes?

Some areas along the Great Lakes are having a water shortage. I can find many arguments against the removal of water, but I cannot find any pro removal of water. What are the reasons that these people/states want to keep removing water when there is clearly a shortage?

winengold23

Question answered by Roger K

What kind of "removal" are you talking about? Many cities on the lakes draw drinking water from the lakes. Is that the removal you mean, or do you mean tankers coming from countries like Saudi Arabia, filling up with a few millions gallons and taking it away overseas? What places near the lakes are having a water shortage? Do you mean lack of rainfall or a shortage of drinking water? Big difference between the two.
