How do I replace the DC jack on the Gateway MX6128?

I need to replace the DC jack on my Gateway MX6128 notebook... This entails getting the motherboard out. I have taken out the screws that i think are connecting it all on the bottom, and the front, toward the speakers and headphone jack has opened, but the side where the CD drive is completely shut, and wont open with a little force, and the entire back is stuck. Can someone help me open this laptop?

Question answered by Chickster

If you haven't DE-STATIC yourself, STOP right there! I have to go on the basis that many people do NOT know this. When you open a desktop computer, you can just touch the metal frame of the computer case, to relieve you body of static. Not so with a laptop. The body is made of plastic, and the metal frame is non-ferrous. You should use an ESD wrist strap. (Electro-Static Discharge), and connect the alligator clip to a good ground source. (Stay away from your AC receptacle ground! You don't need THIS much of a ground source! Have a non-working desktop computer? Set the case up on the table where you're working, and clip the alligator clip to the metal frame. Or if the table has metal legs, clip it to one of them) An ESD wrist strap cost from Three dollars and fifty cents, to twelve dollars. Get the cheap one. (I think Radio Shack has 'em for $8 bucks) Cheap Insurance! Your body contains static. We're getting into the time of year when static becomes more prevalent. Static will silently fry those delicate computer parts, and you'll never even know it! WORK on a table! Not a bed, a couch, or DIRECTLY on a carpet floor! STATIC! Thanks for letting me 'spout off' about this. I could just envision you taking this laptop apart, putting it back together right, and wondering why it doesn't work! Remove the battery and the AC adapter. (Hey,I gotta' say this) Have an egg carton to put the screws in, and label each egg holder with the area the screws came out of. Makes life, SO much easier when it's time to put it back together! Don't force the case open! Granted, sometimes there are plastic tabs on the inside to keep the case halves together, but generally after all the screws are removed, it comes right apart. I did read you said, "little force". Good thinking. Just ease it, and see where the offending screw might be, but VERY gently! It looks like there are 12 case screws. 8 along the outside, and 4 in the middle. Even the covers for ram access, (Memory Bay),harddrive, and wireless network module, have to be removed. There is a screw that holds the DVD drive in. When you remove the Memory Bay cover, it's on the bottom right, near the edge of the plastic opening. It's above the bottom right screw hole, for the Memory Bay cover. You have to remove the keyboard, and the top cover assembly, with the LCD screen in it. This simple 12 page PDF file from Gateway, tells you how to remove and install components. (5+ MB download. Takes about 12 seconds to download. This guide will help) http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106/Blade/8511418.pdf You need to take out the screws on the back of the hinges, that hold the LCD top cover assembly. There are screws onthe inside also, above the keyboard area.(The keyboard has been removed) Be very careful with the two wire cables,(maybe three), that go from the LCD screen to the laptop body. The small white connectors are spread apart with your finger/thumbnails. I can't find a Service and Maintenance Manual for this Gateway laptop, unless it's one you buy. Just the User Component Replacement Guide above. I can offer you this Disassembly Guide for a Toshiba Satellite L335D. All laptops pretty much follow the same disassembly 'pattern'. Hopefully this will help. (At the bottom you will see the Page 2, and Page 3 links, you click on) http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L355D/laptop-disassembly-1.htm When you get the motherboard out, and it's time to replace that DC power jack, http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/06/dc-power-jack-repair-guide/ (I use a small tip soldering gun like this, http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2911246&cp=2032058.2032236.2032313&parentPage=family ,.032 diameter Rosin core solder, and a solder sucker tool,(Desoldering tool) http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062745&cp=2032058.2032236.2032313&parentPage=family

How was Nazi Germany's economy before WWII?

Since Adolf Hitler wanted to receive European domination, I imagine him producing more factories to produce more weapons for future preparations. Therefore I assume it was flourishing before the second world war. Is this true? Please answer with a reasoning. Thanks!

What is the definition of lime as it pertains to masonry?

Marquise R

Question answered by Lea

Calcium oxide (CaO), commonly known as burnt lime, caustic lime, lime or quicklime, is a widely used chemical compound. It is a white, caustic and alkaline crystalline solid. As a commercial product lime often also contains magnesium oxide, silicon oxide and smaller amounts of aluminium oxide and iron oxide. Calcium oxide is usually made by the thermal decomposition of materials, such as limestone, that contain calcium carbonate (CaCO3; mineral name: calcite). This is accomplished by heating the material to above 825°C,[1] a process called calcination or lime-burning, so as to remove the carbon dioxide. This process is reversible, since once the quicklime product has cooled, it immediately begins to absorb carbon dioxide from the air, until, after enough time, it is completely converted back to calcium carbonate. Calcination of limestone is one of the first chemical reactions discovered by man and was known in prehistory: see limekiln. As hydrated or slaked lime, Ca(OH)2 (mineral name: portlandite), it is used in mortar and plaster to increase the rate of hardening. Hydrated lime is very simple to make as lime is a basic anhydride and reacts vigorously with water. Lime is also used in glass production and its ability to react with silicates is also used in modern metal production (steel, magnesium, aluminium and other non-ferrous metals) industries to remove impurities such as slag. It is also used in water and sewage treatment to reduce acidity, to soften, as a flocculant, and to remove phosphates and other impurities; in paper making to dissolve lignin, as a coagulant, and in bleaching; in agriculture to improve acidic soils; and in pollution control - in gas scrubbers to desulfurize waste gases and to treat many liquid effluents. It has traditionally been used in the burial of bodies in open graves, to hide the smell of decomposition, as well as in forensic science, to reveal fingerprints. It is a refractory and a dehydrating agent and is used to purify citric acid, glucose, dyes and as a CO2 absorber. It is also used in pottery, concrete, paints and the food industry. It is also used in mass burials, as often occurred when epidemics or plagues struck, such as the Black Plague in England.

Of metals can you have in your body still have a mri done?

What kind of metals can you have inside your body and still have a MRI done

Sammy Bosarge

Question answered by Frank

Non-ferrous metals are fine. Most orthopedic implants are non-ferrous. Pacemakers or defibrilators strictly contraindicate an MRI, as so aneurism clips. If your doctor is ordering an MRI, tell the doctor about any metallic implants. If you are getting an MRI, tell the staff about any metallic implants. Don't worry. They'll ask you, and they'll check that it's safe.

Do they eat the all-pork Frankfurter in the Nathan's Famous hotdog eating contest?

The definition of a Frankfurter hotdog is not clear to me. i know it's a sausage, but I've heard from a German meat connoisseur that it's supposed to be all-pork. By dictionary definition it could be all-pork, all-beef or a combination, so when Nathan's famous brand say "Frankfurter," what is the specific meat composition?

Pensivefox

Question answered by ZEEMADMAN

You've never been to a Sausage Factory I take it? This is a Question that would have been better for all concerned if you had not asked it. But since you have, I will answer it, as best I can. You'd no doubt be amazed at the things that can, and do fall into a modern, high speed, industrial meat grinder. A certain percentage of things are allowed, depending on the Country you are in at the time. Rodents, rodent hairs, rodent droppings, birds, cats, lost human digits, assorted trash, wrappings, all of the above being accidental introductions of "extra" ingredients. There is a magnetic section to catch any ferrous metals that appear in the mixture. Non ferrous metals such as Aluminum, and Stainless Steel would not be caught however. Which then brings us to the subject of sabotage / deliberate contamination. As many people had said before "if you've seen sausage made you might not eat it anymore." I remember a Graham Wilson Cartoon from years ago. He draws some of the most bizarre things you'll see. One was group of people who could only be described as Rubes. They were all lined up outside a Carnival scene. There was a Barker to lure them in. The Banner Read "Wonder Sausage, See How There Made." As each Rube stepped through the doorway, their was a Carnival Worker on the other side who smashed them in the head with a large wooden mallet. They then fell into the mixing vat! So they truly had seen how Wonder Sausage Was Made, first hand.
