How can i get my music heard and what music publishers are legit?

Hi i was doing a little research on film and TV music publishers i found TAXI but i heard they are not legit. is this true are they legit or not? is there any music publishers that are similar but legit? i want to get heard by music publishers or anybody that needs my music in their business, but i don't know how to get my music heard please help me. thank you.

A good way to get your music heard is over Youtube. One of the stars got discovered over youtube by another star. You get enough views and more people will see its good enough!

How do I find a music publisher who deals in music for film in scotland?

I am looking for a music publisher specialising in publishing music for film and also film and production companies who may be looking for musicians to write music for their films. Can anyone offer any advice on how to go about this? Thanks.

Ah, I think you're getting confused. A music publisher does exactly what it sounds like: they PUBLISH the music. This means they pay for the creation of the music, the marketing and the distribution. They may then forward proceeds of the sales to the performing artist/s. The collecting society does exactly that: collect royalties on songs and passes them on to either the publisher and/or the performing artist/s. (There can be some overlap because there are many ways the profits can be shared depending on the contracts) An organisation like APRA for instance: if say, I wanted to use a particular song in my theatre performance, I'd have to apply to APRA for the use of the song. I would pay royalties to APRA for that song, depending on a number of variables (number of people in the audience, the performing artist/s demand for whatever amount of money, etc etc). APRA then collects the money and passes it on to whoever wrote/performed the song. The same is true for radio stations, work places (ie. dentist's offices pay for royalties on music if they use CDs), films and TV shows. APRA however, does not PUBLISH the song, they just act as a middleman to collect the money for those who do. Furthermore, not all publishers or artists go through a collection society, and some might not allow their songs to be used at all by other people even for money.

Why does a songwriter need a music publisher?

I'm not looking for a publisher to invest in me to become a better songwriter. I'm just wondering why I as a songwriter need a music publisher? What can they do for me and what can I do for them?

A music publisher will help promote your music using their contacts in the music industry. They will also help track who is playing your music to ensure you are getting the royalties. Your music has to be very good though to necessitate this. You could promote yourself by placing your music on the free site www.startmysong.com. This site will display your music for other users to hear and rate and also places a daily song on social sites such as Facebook and Twitter to further promote you.

What do I need to ask a music publisher when I'm requesting permission to use a track?

I am trying to put in a request with a record company to use a track in my video installation artwork. The asked me to give them loads of details and "Please note that you also need to contact the music publisher". They gave me some email addresses of the publisher, but what do I need to say? Can a music publisher be the same as a book publisher?

I've establised a publishing company - but so far it's a music publisher. I want to know if that same publishing arm also can be named as a book publisher - or does it have to be a seperate company? If not, what makes them able to publish different art and If so, why would they have to be separate? Thanks in advance!!

You can have both under the same banner. Each would be a different subdivision. If this is serious, you do need to get yourself some legal advice regarding incorporation of the company, trademark and copyrights.
