Which museums do you suggest to visit in Amsterdam and what else to do in Amsterdam?

There are a lot of museums in Amsterdam. Except Van Gogh and Madamme Tussoud, I dont have any idea about the rest. Which museums do you suggest to visit? Except visiting museum and boat tour do you have any sugessions to do if you have only 3 days?

Question answered by Arjen

The three big museums are the Rijksmuseum (17th century oil paintings), the van Gogh Museum (most famous 19th century painter), and the Anne Frank house (hiding place of this Jewish girl in WW2). A new museum that I love is the Hermitage, a cooperation with a Russian museum in St. Petersburg. More on http://www.amsterdam-advisor.com/amsterdam-museums.html

How come museums offer few programs for adults?

I'm interested in learning more at some museums and planetariums but most of their programs are aimed at the primary and middle school levels. I don't think programs such as "Summer Space Camp", are offered for anyone over the age of 12. The more advanced the grades go, it seems the fewer programs they have to offer. Even interesting stuff for senior high students are hard to find, and it is definitely a stretch to see anything for university and graduate students being advertised at the museum. How come attractions offer so few interesting programs suitable for older learners?

Question answered by Frank N

Educated people who enter a museum are already motivated and trained to learn on their own. Children need help. Older students can do science fair projects, reports, and so on, on their own. They also begin to specialize, so it's harder to tailor a program with appeal to a larger group. Adults have less free time available due to their responsibilities to raise their own children, and to earn a living. More programs are indeed available to retired adults and senior citizens.

What is the best pass that a tourist can buy to have discounts in museums in London?

Im going to london next week and i want to visit museums there is any pass that can i bought to visit many of this and have discounts,i know there is london pass but its the only pass that can i find?In your opinion its worth it?

Roque Santeiro

Question answered by blackgrumpycat

I looked at the London Pass and unless you are really wanting to see a load of the places on offer, it probably isn't worth it. You could probably only manage two or three of them in one day as most are spread over a wide area. There are plenty of free things to do in London. There is a Merlin pass which gets you cheaper entry into The London Dungeon, Madam Tussaud's and the London Eye, that costs approx £50 per adult. Did it last week, but got it all free as we knew someone working for the company. Have linked you to information on free museums, free art galleries and the London Dungeon page with pass prices. Have a fun trip.

How many people visit UK museums each year, and which agegroups are they in? Are they usually tourists?

I would like to know demographic information about UK (and European) museums, as well as how often a person visits a museum yearly, whether the main visitors are tourists, and whether visitors are mainly young (25 - 45) or older.

Maria

Question answered by RR

You need to contact the museums. Nobody on this site is going to know. Even the museums are unlikely to know the ages or origins of their visitors. Nobody fills in a form as they enter. I take my son to museums. I also visit aviation and military museums with friends. I see people of all ages. Most of them appear to be British.

Which museums in The Netherlands have the most foreign visitors?

I am planning a scientific research on musea in Holland. The study is researching if difference in cultural background effects the extend to which people are satisfied with the experience of the museum. Can some people tell me which museums in The Netherlands have the most foreign visitors? I people can help me to develop a list of ten museums. And please also tell me how much (percentage) of the visitors is foreign in that museum on average.

I would imagine the main museums in Amsterdam : The Rijksmuseum, The Van Gogh Museum, The Anne Frank House but also the trashy tourist museums such as Mme Tussaud's wax museum and the Museum of Torture. In The Hague (Den Haag) : the Maritshuis (famous for its collection of Vermeers)

I need to visit art museums and galleries in another major city for school. What is a good city to check out?

The normal trip is to visit the galleries and museums in NYC, but in addition I want to visit another city, but it has to have New York caliber art. Any ideas? I forgot to mention that I am in DC. I would prefer places close enough to there that I could drive or take a short flight, but really I would like to know about places anywhere in the country. If I can't make a trip there right now, maybe in the future!

Washington D.C. The National Gallery of art and the Hirshorn are my favorite. There are also museums of African art, Asian art, portrait, too many to list. See the link below to the Smithsonian museum. The bonus here is that the museums are free.

Where can I get a membership good for multiple museums?

I had read awhile ago about someone who had purchased an annual membership that gave them admittance to multiple museums across the US. Does anyone know where that can be purchased? For example, I'd like to go to museums this next year in SF and NYC and pay just one membership fee. Thanks.

skubagirl

Question answered by christine_

Many museums offer what is called a reciprocal membership. It will allow for free admission to other museums. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC has reciprocal admission to certain museums (click link, it's a long list) with $60 membership fee: http://www.metmuseum.org/member/me_reciprocal.htm The MOMA also has member ship for $60 and up, but I couldn't find anythign about reciprocal admission, although I figure it's worth a call to them since there is the SFMOMA. http://www.moma.org/support/membership_categories.html Enjoy!

Should the art museums or galleries be free for visiting by people?

In museums or art galleries, there are a lot of great art works. It would be amazing when you view them. But a lot of great museums or galleries have high price tickets, which limit the opportunities of people to access these wonderful things. Sometimes, viewing great art works becomes the particular right of rich people. So I think it should be free for people to visit it.

Luna

Question answered by davidbankson

To answer this question, I say do as we do: art museums many times have a side door or even a resturaunt or cafe' that has a side entrance, and many times you can just walk right into the gallery or museum without a ticket, but if you get caught, well, you'll just be kicked out. Just say you didn't know, if you can get in that way then they probably hear that all the time as it is.

What are the best museums in Washington DC i want to visit?

Ok so i'm got to DC from California. I got the holocaust museum, national air and space museum, Lincoln memorial, so what are some of the best museums in DC?

Question answered by Go AZ

The Smithsonian Museum of American History. (National Archives to see the US Constitution) The Library of Congress - I love to read, and it is an incredible building. Make sure you check the time that the museums close - you may want to see the Memorials later in the day, since they're open after dark. The Lincoln Memorial is awesome after dark.

What marketing suggestions should board member make to the museums?

Hospitality industry executives sometimes serve on the boards of museums. What marketing suggestions should a board member make to the museum?

Thodi

Question answered by Budanatr

It really depends on the museum's goals and the community the museum serves. There are so many great services a museum can offer. Sit down with a professional and discuss it.
