What is mining and its effects on the environment?
Effectsof mining on terrestial and aquatic environment, on air.
How can mining be prevented or make it environmentally friendly?

Question answered by Bill B
Mining can be prevented when we all turn off all of our air conditioners, stop pumping gasoline, throw away all of our appliances that use electricity, turn off the street lamps, play all sports in the daylight, stop manufacturing about 50% of the products we manufacture today, throw away our cell phones, PDA's, blackberrys, iPODs, video games, TV's and the list goes on. That's just for coal mining. To stop the other kinds of mining would require that we maintain or build no more highways, manufacture no more cars, stop building power lines, stop taking certain kinds of medicines, stop building buildings, schools, hospitals, make nothing that uses steel, aluminum, copper, tin, nickell, uranium, have no refrigeration, no hair dryers, curling irons, flower pots, eating utensils, computers, airplanes, mass transit systems, ships, trucks, books and that list goes on. It would pretty much mean cutting our firewood with stone axes, using animal hides to cover ours, and living in caves.
How does mining and urban development effect water quality?
For each mining and urban development:
1) what are the contaminants
2) what are the outcome of these contaminants
3) Are they linear/point/area source?

Question answered by garrisonbight
Your question is too broad to get an answer... WHAT KIND OF MINING... various types of mines produce different types of pollution. WHAT KIND OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT?... that can be anything.
You need to narrow down your question a bit if you want any real answers.

What is the difference between mining engineering and mining geology?
My understanding is that mining engineers will be qualified geologists, however where does the scope of the role differ/overlap?
SamP
Question answered by George
ME is more involved in the design of the mine operations, i.e. shaft design and layout while MG is more involved with the mining of the ore itself, i.e. where to put the shaft. Both tend to be geologists because of the intense knowledge of the rocks themselves in both fields.
What is a quick way to earn exp mining in Runescape without becoming a member?
I know there is power mining now, where people mine ores that are fast to mine and the come back quickly. I want a different way. I know an easy way to gain smithing exp is by making burial armor. I hope there is something like that for mining

Question answered by Derek
I know the BEST way to gain mining exp. Okay its not so much about the ore you mine. Its about the time it takes for you to get to the bank and deposit the ores. If you get 30 dungeoneering you will be able to go to the Dwarven Mines and open the Dungeoneering door.Inside this door there are a lot of ores. THE BEST PART: theres a deposit box right next to all the ores! Isn't that great! Now you can mine mith, coal, silver, and others without walking all the way to falador and wasting precious seconds you could be mining. I make 150k and hour with this method. Hope this helps!

With the current slump in prices for resources many mining companies are reducing staff.
However this should not stop you from applying for a job. I have never understood why so many people feel afraid to apply for a job that may not yet have been advertised. If you really want to work for a particular company, then write to that company and tell them what type of work you seek. The worst that can happen is that they say ' thanks for your offer, but no thanks'.
You should do some research on a few mining companies that appeal to you. Do not just wait to see if the companies advertise for people with your qualifications and experience. Then knowing something about the companies, telephone the companies one at a time and when the switch operator answers the phone, politely mention your name, and ask for help. Usually this will make them feel glad to be of service. Say that you wish to apply for a position with the company and ask for the name and position of the person to whom you should address your application. Also ask if there is any particular day of the week which is best to see this person. Frequently, the telephone operator may even give you some valuable information that may never appear in an advertisement.
Now just write a letter ( keep it brief) stating your wish to work for that company and why you have chosen it? In your letter suggest two dates and times that you are available to attend in person with your resume ( use the best times as suggested by the telephone operator - i.e 10.15 am Wednesday xx/xx/2009 or 2.45 pm Thursday xx/xx/2009). By stating two times and days you are asking the person to make a chioce. Nine times out of ten the person will do so and you have your appointment. Should either of these times really not be appropriate there is a good chance that the person will sugggest some other time, and you still have your appointment. Make sure your letter gives information regarding your address, telephone number and best time to call i.e 10.00 am - 11.30 am).
Hope this information helps and Good Luck!

Sulphur (or sulfur) is mined from it's pure mineral form underground. Very hot, pressurised water is pumped underground, which melts the sulphur. This molten sulphur is carried along with the water up to the surface, separated and allowed to cool.
Sulphur is also extracted as a by-product from petroleum.
There really is no environmental effect, aside from the energy needed to heat and pump the water.
How do you get your mining level up faster in runescape?
Im only a level 5 mining level. Oh, and if you like, you can add a little combat level glitches.

Question answered by mtoff2110
I suggest using either the mine near Varrock, or in Draynor Swamplands, and mine tin and copper there for a bit. It's not that difficult, and it has a quick respawn. If you also plan to smelt, use the Draynor swamp area, and mine 14 of each. Once your inventory is full, go to Lumbridge and use the furnace there to smelt the ores into Bronze bars. Bank them at the castle bank, and go back, doing this until your mining level is 15.
If you just want the experience, just drop the ores as you mine them, or after mining a few. You won't profit from this, but you'll get more experience while you're there, and won't have a need to bank.
Once your mining level is 15, iron is your best bet. The mine at Varrock has 4 iron rocks and is a great source for it, considering how close the bank is, if you're on an empty world. If the area is crowded, it can become a bit of a challenge, racing for each rock.
Either bank or powermine (Mining, and then dropping the ore) iron until you're happy with your mining level. It's one of the fastest ways to level it until you're very skilled, and find yourself easily mining other rocks.
If your combat level is high enough, you can try mining at the mines near Falador, as long as you don't mind the King Scorpion there.
Also, if you complete a level of the Varrock Achievement Diary, you can wear the armor for a chance of mining two ores from one rock. You'll get experience for both ores, so you may find this very helpful. It's not a 100% thing, however, but for when it does work, it helps.
What is the fastest way to level up mining in Runescape?
I am a level 79 mining in runescape. I am looking for the fastest place for nonmembers to level up in mining. I am fine if it does'nt provide money as long as you level up quickly.
And on a side note: Do you get rich fast when you can mine rune ore?
Tuck
Question answered by Bob B
your gonna have to do this thing call Power Mining.
Go to anyplace where there are 2+ iron ores right next to each other
Keep mining them until your inventory is full, then drop them/trade to another person
Repeat... (HAVE FUN!)
There is a forum on Runescape that is supporting a "drop all button". so that will help a ton when it comes out.
"Do you get rich faster when you can mine rune ore?"
To an extent. F2P players have only 2 mining locations to get Rune Ore, the Wildy. Mining this ore takes time + with only two mining locations, it will be very hard to get a full inventory. Also, there are reverents loitering around these areas; so watch out!
Mining rune ore isn't worth it, but that's my opinion. (its currently 13.3k/ore)
What is the fastest way to get my mining and smithing level up on Runescape?
