Should we use a lighting consultants?
We're building on a large extension and had some input from an interior designer. She recommended strongly that we use a local lighting consultants to advice on type, placing etc of lights. We've never heard the term before and our friends think we're mad to spend money on this. Has anyone used one and if so would you recommend it?
Phew, that's a lot of questions Gare - I'll have to think about them. Makes me wonder if the LC idea is more suitable for a total new build or a suite of offices. We just don't want to make any mistakes - maybe we just need a better interior designer!

Hey Crosbie,
Good interior designers and architects can do a fair lighting layout. I hope I have not dissuaded you from making the appropriate decision. I have wired homes with 5 lights chosen by me, 10 new lights chosen by an architect, to over 400 lights with a professional lighting designer and complete home automation. They all looked great when done.
Yes and no.
The size of the addition, budget, and other things will help to determine.
Questions to answer first:
1) What is your overall budget?
2) What will the lighting consultant charge? (If you have an architect, they normally incorporate all design features)
3) What will the cost of the fixtures and layout they specify cost? (they tend to lean toward high-end, whis is great if money is not the object - see 1 above)
4) How large of an area is it?
5) How many rooms and type of rooms?
6) Does the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in your area mandate specific type(s) of lighting in certain areas?
7) At what point does it make sense to hire a consultant?
8) What other homes have they done in your area?
9) Will they provide you with a list of three people who have had comparable projects completed in the last year, people you may contact?
10) Are you looking at automated systems, such as Lutron, Litetouch, Crestron, etc?
11) What are your lighting needs, mood, accent, general area, art, scene?
Perhaps an electrical contractor proficient in homes of your home's stature could do what is needed without the designer's input, this is Design/Build. However, if you want concise competitive bids, you need to have all of the plans in place.
There are lots more. If you can modify your question (can this be done) to incorporate some of these, that would be nice.
I will be glad to be a little more specific then, if you like.
What is the best way to clean LIGHT colored leather car upholstery?
Howdy! My Beetle convertible has light/cream colored car upholstery that's nasty dirty. Has anyone used any great products? Techniques? Tips? Anything that I could use to clean it myself? I'd like to save the money and not get a professional cleaning, but will do so if that's the best option!
Your time and brilliance is truly appreciated. Assinine ideas and comments, probably not so much.
Let me stress the upholstery is leather, not fabric. Thanks!

You need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner. Strong cleaner or Maxi Cleaner if it is very dirty. With light coloured leather dye transfer from clothing can be a problem although using a good quality leather protector will help inhibit this.
DO NOT use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones. (Most 'conditioners' and car care products contain waxes or oils) and furniture polish contains silicones
BABY WIPES are the worst thing you can use as they will destroy the finish on your leather. They are very strong alkiline cleaners to neutralise urine (acid) on babys skin so they are not the right thing to use on leather.
Saddle soap is too harsh to use on todays leathers.
A lot of leather wipes contain chemicals which will also destroy the finish or leave residues on the leather which will damage it. .
Fairy liquid contains more salt these days to get dishes clean and this will break the finish down on your leather. This has been verified by the manufacturers (as with the baby wipes).
You should also follow cleaning with a good water based leather protector which will act like a 'scotchgard' and inhibit dirt and stains from being absorbed and make cleaning easier the next time.
Dry leather needs rehydrating with water and oils and waxes should not be used as the natural oils do not dry out of leather. Wiping over with a damp cloth regularly will help to do this.
It is important to maintain a regular cleaning regime cleaning dirt off the surface regularly and inhibiting the absorption of body oils into the leather with a protector is the best way of doing this.
The alternative is a brand new product on the market called Lazy Leather. This is the latest technology in cleaning and combines an effective cleaner with a protector. It is quick and easy to use and should be used as a maintenance product once your suite has been cleaned or from new if you have just bought it.

Question answered by HR Manager
I used to be a recruitment consultant before I moved into HR. I was lucky enough to find a job working in an agency as a receptionist/administrator and learnt how things worked. When a vacancy came up within my branch I applied for it. As I already had a good working knowledge of the business I got the job.
Ideally you would need to be educated to at least A level standard and have some office/admin or sales experience. Other than that, it is a sales job so it is up to you to sell yourself via your CV & covering letter and subsequent interview when you get one. Also bear in mind that some sectors are harder to get into than others due to the extra knowledge/experience you would need. A temporary recruitment consultant is the easiest to get into (in my opinion) and light industrial temp recruitment (warehouse pickers/packers & forklift drivers) is the area that requires the least amount of experience.
Go for national chains as they are more likely to have systems in place for training etc on the job and will probably more likely take someone on as a trainee.
Good luck!
What is the new shade equivalent to Mary Kay's light ivory?
I used to wear Mary Kay's full coverage foundation in light ivory. It's been several years now since I've used it and I just found out they no longer carry that foundation. I saw that it's been replaced by their Timewise line, but now I'm not sure what shade I would use. The powder formula says light ivory is now called Ivory 1. Does this also apply to the liquid formulas?

First i would recommend to contact a Marykay Beauty Consultant because she would know. since she will try them on you and both of you see which one is best for you. Next, we do carry Ivory 1 thru 7 in Liquid Foundation, what we do not carry ivory 1 is in Medium coverage foundation.

Lighting Designers are certified by NCQLP. A Lighting Designer is tested and can use the term "LC" in their name or title.
The IESNA is a governing body that only creates the standards for lighting levels.
Beware of anyone claiming to be a Lighting Consultant or Lighting Designer for residential who have not been certified by a governing body or accepted organization.
Interior designers and Architects do lighting design, but only as a hobby or added bonus to the entire project.

Yes. First & foremost you want to know if you are a cool or a warm. Then go for more description & get whether you're spring, summer, autumn,or winter. That will help you a lot.
Now, you want the look best suited for what your applying it for. Business, grays, navies & khaki's look really business like. Ask if you'd look better in a collared shirt, or a polo. If you'd look better in a double breasted jacket than a single. Jeans /? what type? Skinny, loose fit etc. tons of questions out there... When you wear something that's not your color - wear your color next to your face. It's where it shows the most & brings the dullness or the light to you. Good luck.

Im a huge believe in only blaming people or praising people for their individual contribution. I dont blame Obama for our enormous debt, i blame him only for his contribution to of national debt. I blame Bush for his contribution to our debt. I blame bush for his failed stimulus and Obama for his failed stimulus. I dont praise Obama for getting Bin Lauden, i praise the military who killed him, not the one who have them a green light. Obama has a talent for avoiding the blame for his actions. He as part of a team chooses when to say we and when to say they. If the outcome is good, he says we got Bin Lauden. If its bad, its they screwed up, not we screwed up. I dont blame Obama for our stagnant economy, but I do blame him for his complete failure to get it moving.
