Could someone help me find personifacation, metaphors, and similies in this poem?
Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy
Not a red rose or a satin heart.
I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.
Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.
I am trying to be truthful.
Not a cute card or a kissogram.
I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.
Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring,
if you like.
Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.

Personification- Giving human like qualities to non human things (ex. Wobbling photo)
what shall I have in my 20th birthday party budget of £2000?
So I really want a wild party for my 20th what type of entertainers shall I hire?
I'm planning to start my party at 7.00 until 12.00 the venue costs £14 per hour.
I also want a dj, a stripper, a kissogram however I do not want them for the whole of the party!
I will need a bouncer on the door.
I can do all the catering as I am a chef and it will be cheaper.
Will my £2000 do this? And what other type of entertainers shall I hire willing to up my budget £200.
Dancer!

Question answered by Britney100
Try Danny Valentino's male and female strippergrams. I have used them before for my own events and the guys and girls are always very reliable, professional and extremely hot! They cover Essex, London and the rest of the UK.
Their website: http://www.dannyvalentino.co.uk
Tell Danny that Britney recommended him and that you would like a discount! Good luck!

The poet searches for realism in this love poem. This is no sentimental doggerel one expects with Hallmark style Valentine poems and sickly kissograms. This is gritty, shocking and ultimately very truthful, though contrived.
The metaphoric device of the onion allows the poet to extend the metaphor to include the sensuous side of her love as she suggests the careful undressing via the light of the moon. There is even the hint of naughtiness in the reference to being wrapped in brown paper. The onion is also used to explore the volatile nature of the passion associated with love. They are both blinded by the perfume of the onion and both helpless in the grip of passion. One's senses are further aroused in this stanza. The love the poet has is strong, possessive, fierce and faithful to the end. Yes....this onion ( love ) has powers far above the usual methaphoric satin love heart or red rose. It will possess, disable, disarm and bind the lovers together in a real sense. Marriage is even offered.
I find the conceit used here too contrived, though I can see the poem does work. I am too put off by Donkey's words to Shreik re finding layers of meaning in an onion, though Donkey is too sentimental and prefers the image to be one of a parfait dessert...everyone loves a parfait ......but not so with the onion!

Hello,
For Rory, I would do some kind of Roman soldier charm. For Amy, maybe you can appeal to the Kissogram when we first meet her as an adult?
Good luck! :)
What is the diferance between a kissogram and a stripogram?
What would you expect in a performance from each?

Question answered by Fraggle Rocks
A kissogram is a message delivered via a kiss. Usually arranged as a fun surprise for a person for a special occasion, celebration, specific day, etc. Message deliverers can be hired either by themselves, or as part of an agency. The deliverer also usually wears fancy clothing.
A Strip-O-Gram is a form of message delivery in which, usually, an attractive woman will perform a striptease while singing or dancing. The word is a combination of telegram and striptease. This type of entertainment became popular in the 1970's and continues to be found all across the United States.
Typically a Strip-O-Gram is most often a form of gift given for a birthday, anniversary or bachelor party. While generally the stripper retains her panties and sometimes her bra, it is not unusual in some venues for the stripper to perform a lap dance or perform sex acts for additional money in the form of a "tip". Essentially, some Strip-O-Gram services are fronts for prostitution rings.

See how easily I pasted this? And the whole thing, too! Without the whole poem, I wouldn't know that you're referring to both as the speaker and an onion, so I couldn't answer your question. I'm not a professor and I don't remember every poem I read, if I read them at all.

You have to say, "This metaphor describes how both the speaker and an onion can make the reader, as a lover, cry. While the onion causes a physical reaction, the speaker is writing about breaking the reader's heart emotionally from being in love with the speaker."
The poem keeps going on with the onion as a metaphor for love presented as being more realistic than pretty red roses or satin hearts.

Question answered by Magus
James Stannage, last heard on Key 103 in May 2005, returns this Sunday as part of the starting line-up of a new online radio station see below
The station has been put together by former kissogram and ‘avowed Manc’ Dave Foran. Foran combines pub ownership with property development. Stannage has spent the past two years managing two of Foran’s pub – the Ducie Bridge and the Milan.
Irish AlanForan has assembled a dozen plus experienced Manchester jocks to get the station going including former Galaxy presenter and Sony award winner Irish Alan and former Radio Caroline DJ Ray Teret.
Stannage was fired by Key 103 following his comments about Ken Bigley in May 2005 – the day after the European Cup Final. Key 103 was subsequently fined £125,000. Stannage is one of Foran’s three shareholding partners in the venture.
The station will feature a solid diet of Manc news and features plus music and Manc opinion.
Foran told How-Do that the idea came to him about six months ago when a friend asked him to help with another online station and he’d brought Stannage along. The resulting feedback and PR was “gobsmacking” so he set about creating his own.
Foran is extremely confident the station will prosper because “You can turn on any radio station in Manchester at the moment and they all basically sound the same – but we’re going to be different.
“We’re already creating a disturbance and I don’t care what anyone says, there is simply no competing with Stannage.”
Foran said initially site will derive its revenue from banner ads and sponsorship but for the present, they don’t intend to broadcast traditional radio commercials.
Foran claims that overt 35,000 people have already visited the holding page for more info and a further 1400 people have signed up for the newsletter.
All of the marketing to date has been online with emphasis on communication through Facebook and My Space.
“We will” said Foran “Be very Manchester focussed.”
