How much does it cost for Jewellers to produce a diamond ring?
I am wondering, when jewellers sell 1 carrat diamond rings for over £4000, what are the profit margins for them? i.e. how much does it cost to produce the ring altogether to justify charging such prices?
Thanks!

Everything depends on the diamond quality and the setting mold.
If the setting is custom, a mold must be made, tested for strength, etc. Some clauses are that the mold will be/has been destroyed, guaranteeing a unique ring...with the full setup costs to go with it. Even if not unique, there are a lot of costs to be defrayed for the artist, mold maker, manufacturer, etc.
Then comes the carat quality/cut of the diamond. There are a lot of fees to various countries and brokers which must be paid for legitimate natural diamonds to maintain the integrity of the market / value of the stones. This is a finite natural resource.
A good quality man made diamond can only be detected by a jeweller for a lot less money.

There are number "chain stores" like Goldmark, Prouds and Angus and Coote but they have high prices and poor quality.
There are any number of better jewellers like Gregorys and Canturri but they are expensive. Maybe even look at antique jewellry, you'll get much better value for money. So it's preloved, who cares if it's nice!
Why do jewellers charge so much to replace a battery on my watch?
I have a couple of watches and every time the battery went flat I'd have to pay £10 to get a new battery replaced and fitted in a jewellers' shop which I always thought was extortionate. I've just bought a pack of watch/calculator batteries in a discount shop for just £2 which will cover me for 6 battery replacements.
How do jewellers' shops get away with charging so much?

Because they can, unfortunately. Jewellery shops are usually owned by misers anyway. Better off doing what you did, which most people do now anyway for the exact same reason.

Most employers now pay monthly - but what your specific employer does is up to them. Ask them how often you get paid - it is something you have every right to know, so no-one will be annoyed by the question.

Is Paris Jewellers a good place to buy an engagement ring?
In terms of quality and service (warranty, cleaning, etc) after a ring is bought. For example, Peoples provides free cleaning and a full lifetime warranty on your ring. I am wondering what others' experiences are with Paris Jewellers.

Find a small custom jeweler in your area (ask around with people that you know to see what jewelers they go to) and have them make a custom ring for you. This makes a special, unique, one of a kind masterpiece for the woman you love.
Also check online. Stores like Blue Nile and James Allen offer some beautiful rings that you can pick the setting and stone for at good prices that don't have the mark ups of higher priced stores. I had heard especially good things about Blue Nile.
