Need help finding a company or supplier?

How do I publish a book run of 5 to 10 books?

I saw a thing once on a internet publisher that would do a very small run, but have lost the information. My daughter wrote an interesting story and I would like to have a few published.

K C

Question answered by bardsandsages

If you are just looking to print a few personal copies, I recommend lulu.com. They produce bookstore quality books in a variety of formats, and their interface is user friendly. However, for the love of god, make sure your daughter understands she can't go around calling herself a "published" writer just because you printed off five or ten copies of the book! I've seen this happen, and young people later get very embarassed when they find out that "real" publishers don't take them seriously. Of course, if the story is really that good, why not grab a copy of Writer's Digest, The Writer, or Poets & Writers and see if you can find a publisher? If you search YA, you will find plenty of information on finding agents and/or publishers. Wouldn't it be much nicer to have her published in a real product (and get paid for it!)that just a few copies for personal gratification?

Is there any software which integrates with the ad serving software and helps the sales people manage sales?

Hi Everyone, Internet publishers who have an advertising model, use a 3rd party adserver like doubleclick, 24/7 or zedo to serve their advertising campaigns. This works great because all these softwares have advances features which help in campaign management. However, the sales process is managed using excel spreadsheets, and tracking of inventory as well as what's available, which sales person has sold what etc etc. This is very in-efficient and painful. Is there any software which integrates with the ad serving software and helps the sales people manage the inventory and facilitate the sales process. Thanks for your help. Sharad

How can I make sure no one steals my essays from my blog?

Is there a "Turn it in.com" for bloggers or internet publishers? Would it ok if I just put "Copyright (my name) and date?" Should I mail the originals to myself and leave the envelope sealed (poor man's copyright)? I do have the originals with my grades written on them. Any suggestions?

Danielle

Question answered by Steven C

If you don't want them stolen DO NOT PUT ON INTERNET you have no right to privacy if you post it publicly on the internet.

How do I tell if my friend'd book is better?

Both me and my friend are writing a book and when i read his i feel like his is so much better. Is there any way to tell tchnically who's is better written by avoiding bias? He's using an internet publisher and im going through a raadio station whos going to set me up with a publisher and interview on air?

Question answered by CaptDare

Who cares who has the better book - they are different books, are they not? Are you writing the same story? Then as long as they both are well-plotted, with good character and mechanically (grammar, et al) correct, does it matter whose is "better?"

Question answered by Ms. Skellington :)

If you aren't able to copyright it then, YES, mail it to yourself but remember you can not open it, it has to stay sealed. I did the same thing with some lyrics.

How do you deal with people stealing your writing ideas?

Lately I've been shocked to find other writers have somehow had contact with my work and are stealing specific special words that only I use in my writing, and even unique characters' names. I am even more shocked to find that their source has not been through the Internet, but via publishers I have submitted my work to - it seems unfair that other less talented writers seem to be using my creativity to their benefit. surely, these writers must some day have to question their talent if they have never once dreamt their own dreams?

anon

Question answered by Mr. Zeph

You would not be the first writer to have his submission pulled apart by a subs editor and pitched to another writer. You need to copy write your stuff. Mail copies of your drafts to yourself if you have to, and keep them sealed. This practice does happen, lots of young genre fiction writers have their ideas pilfered by older writers who wholesale take concepts, plot devices and even whole characters. Talent only goes so far. You need to not be too precious about your ideas, trust that you will develop and have better ones. Then copy write the fuck out of them and sue anybody who comes close. Everybody 'borrows' and has their influences. But there is a line and people know when they have crossed it. So fuck them.

How secure is the internet in terms of privacy?

Would it be just advertising firms that track our internet activity? Or can ordinary people purchase or produce such software and send it to other computers?

I am a board certifed clinical psychiatrist and have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean. Here are program I use that will give you 100% protection. Ofcourse you must also have all your critical updates installed from Microsoft. I use the free zone alarm firewall for many years. Excellent with free updates and all new versions free. Protects you from rouge incoming packets and keeping your private data from leaving your pc. http://www.zonealarm.com Download their free home for personal use. Antivirus program I use. You only pay a one time fee of $29.99. and you get all updates and all new versions for life. Read the webpage and if you like what you read this is the antivirus of choce I have used for over ten years and never one virus. By culture the Chinese are very secret just about everything and that includes their software. This antivirus program out of Beijing, China that is also used by the Government of China. This antivirus program does not have the Govt. permission to be rated with all other known antivirus programs. What I can assure you is that you pay only a one time fee for life that will include all auto updates, and all new versions for life. The Chinese don't believe in having to pay an annual fee for updates or new versions. I can tell you their technology is light years ahead of any other known antivirus software out there. If you open a webpage and there is a hidden virus it will clean in realtime. Anything that you download and has even a trace code, it will kill the download and ask you to upload the trace code for investigation. In real time the upload will tell you if it is clean or not. Will not allow you download, Real Player, because there is a hidden file that is a trojan keylogger. The file was uploaded and traced back to the United States Army, Intelligence Services out of London, England. (Removal of the file Real Player will reject the installation). Read for yourself at their webpage. I have never had one virus in ten plus years. Plus it will catch any progam with it's dynamic defense system, for software that you download and it does not have a publisher or lic., included. Twister Trojan Antivirus V7 Very low on resources with scanner running in background. http://www.filseclab.com If you prefer not to pay and wish to have a free antivirus program download the free AOL Active Virus Shield, powered by Karpersky engine Russia. http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp Antispyware I use three. You can only use one antivirus program or you will have serious conflict with your system. Superantispyware, known to find what all other anitspyware will miss. http://www.superantispyware.com A2Squard Malware out of Austria. Download their free version and you will be protected from, rogue dialers, worms, malware, keyloggers, trace spyware and rouge cookies. http://www.emsisoft.com AdAware SE Personal out of Sweden. This antispyware company has been around since computers became commerical. In June of this year they will come out with a brand new version. Right now it is beta testing. Download their free home for personal use. http://www.lavasoft.com All of these program I have listed for you use little or no resources. Minddoctor, France Please excuse my english.

Question answered by Living Dailies

Right now your computer is acting as the server. It is hosting or holding your html file. You probably have already opened your website using your browser. In order for other people to be able to access your html file on their browsers it needs to be located on a server, which is a computer. There are companies that will sell you space on their servers so that your html files can be accessed by others online. There are many hosting companies. I personally use justhost.com. I have been using them for a long time and have loved their services. Hosting services charge monthly. Once you have a hosting account you need to upload your files. This is not hard it would just be easier to explain as you were in the cPanel of your hosting account. The cPanel is basically like a dashboard to access your hosting features and abilities. Our HTML Living Dailies publisher can help you with other questions. Just leave a reply on his site under the FAQ section - http://www.htmllivingdailies.com (He is currently doing HTML for 365 Days!)

Is it okay to use pictures from the internet on my blog?

I was wondering if I can legally use pictures from the internet (from Google searches, etc.) on my blog? Do I have to get permission or include a copyright notice?

twinklgrl

Question answered by southernyankeefan

Officially, without permission, you should not be posting content on your page that you do not own. There are some images that are "for pay" use only, where the photographer or publisher need to be compensated for your use of the photo. Other photos or content may be posted as long as you reference the originating website. One solution is to use a click-through method, where you put a link named like "click here to see the photo of Britney in her drawers" and then you make the actual hyperlink the source website.

Is it legal to use a newspaper or Internet article in your book without asking permission?

I am writing a book. Within this book I intend to use various newspapers and Internet news articles in the book as examples for my main points. Can I use these articles without permission? I mean the whole article, not just a portion of it.

Question answered by Kris

No its not illegal, as long as you use full and clear citation. You must include the following in a good citation: 1) Author (Last name, First name) 2) Year of Publication 3) Edition (1st, 2nd etc..) 4) Full Title of the Book/Article You are Referencing 5) Publisher's Name (Routledge, University Press etc..) 6) Publishing Location (Boston, London, Dublin etc..) This is the Harvard Author Date referencing system. This applies to qouting from somebody elses work, however if you want to insert the entire article into your work, as you have just stated, I would strongly advise you get in touch with the publisher and seek their permission as you could run into some legal difficulties even with full referencing.
