How do semi hydroponics enable orchids to grow faster?

Does semi hydroponics technique enable orchids to grow healthily? And why is it so, then? What are the scientific explanations?

Question answered by Christopher P

If done right yes it does. It does this by giving the plant everything it needs in the excat portions of what it needs exactly when it needs it. The trick is to do it right though. It takes years of growing and lots of research to know the fore mentioned things. There is also a greater cost involved in purchasing the various neutrients needed and a large time investment spent being there at just the right time to feed your plant. Hydroponics are really a great thing, but it's an expensive hobby. In most circles it's considered old and out of date but there are die hards out there that still swear by it. It comes down to a personal level of interest and time and capital I would think. I personaly like the ideas of it but im not sure of the practical application outside of the greenhouse for hydroponics.

What type of hydroponics will work the best for tomatoes?

I am new and have never grown with hydroponics before. I have been studding them and a water culture system sounds like the easiest to get started on. Will tomatoes and peppers grow in a water culture setup or should I try something else?

Question answered by nv jack

I am not in to hydroponics but you might want to look at this site " squarefootgardening.com". If you are looking for a way to grow things cheaper and easy, low tech, less space, less water, least amount of labor,no heavy equipment, all you need is a $1.00 trowel, etc.

How to make own hydroponics nutrient solution using basic compounds?

Question answered by bravozulu

I was thinking about doing that myself after reading this article. http://www.gardening-tips-idea.com/Home-made-hydroponic-fertilizer.html I looked up all the prices on google shopping, amazon and ebay. It is pretty difficult and expensive to get all the chemicals separately. I ended up buying a package of premixed chemicals. I got quickgrow 10-5-10 http://quickgrownutrients.com/ It was 2 pounds for about 20 bucks with shipping included. It is several months worth. I read on the internet that it is actually some brand from some major hydroponics store in Florida if I remember correctly. I think the amount they sell it in is something like 50 lbs and it is close to a hundred bucks so unless you have a major operation or mind the guy repackaging it, if true, it is a good deal. I don't like the liquid ones because you are paying for all the water. Just FYI. What kind of dork doesn't think this is gardening by the way?

What is the best prebuilt hydroponics grow box?

I don't really feel like building my own hydroponics grow box. I have read on the forums that most people do build their own but, I'm just not good with tools, and don't have the time. I want to order the best hydroponics grow box that I can but not pay to much money either. There seems to be companies like BC Northern lights and another company that looks good called homegrown hydroponics and was wondering what the best one is?

Question answered by

Both Homegrown Hydroponics and BC Northern Lights both make nice grow boxes. I was considering buying one from BC Northern Lights for a while before I found out that they ran with heat problems. It seems that that BC Northern Lights does not have enough fans to keep it running cool enough. I have looked at some of the new grow boxes from Homegrown Hydroponics and they seem to have way more fans to keep them cooler and they are way less expensive.

How did ancient people get the nutrients for doing hydroponics? Did they use Ashes from a fire?

People say that hydroponics is complicated, but if ancient people could do it, then it must be simple. How did they isolate the nutrients?

Question answered by Beulah

You make the mistake of believing that people from a time before our own did not use a scientific approach to things. . The study of crop nutrition began thousands of years ago. Ancient history tells us that various experiments were undertaken by Theophrastus (372-287 B.C.), while several writings of Dioscorides on botany dating from the first century A.D., are still in existence. So people were well aware of what sort of nutrients were needed to produce crops and flowers. The beginnings of hydroponics can be traced to Ancient China, Egypt, and India. King Nebuchadnezzar II built the hanging gardens of Babylon as early as 600 B.C. These gardens, famous as one of the Seven Wonders, were filled with plants grown in a steady stream of water. The Aztec Indians also had a system of growing crops on rafts in shallow lakes, you can still see some of these floating gardens near Mexico City. Although there is evidence of these ancient water gardening systems, scientific experiments such as Leonardo Da Vinci's (who first recorded "Plants need certain mineral elements in order to grow") were the first recorded steps toward present day hydroponics.

I am looking for a hydroponics system, can anyone recommend one that is a complete system?

I am looking for an indoor hydroponics system to grow various vegetables and herbs. I do not want to purchase 100 different parts and piece them together, I want a complete system that can do it all.

What to look for in a hydroponics grow box?

So I decided I'm going to purchase a hydroponics grow box to grow my own. However there seems to be so many manufacturers that make them I can't figure out which one to buy. What would you recommend looking for when purchasing a hydroponics grow box?

Question answered by

I would say either go with the Homegrown Hydroponics grow box or a Quickgrow grow box. Those are the two best in the industry.

Question answered by gapgirl5479

First of all growing weed with hydroponics is not everything hydroponics is used for! Have you ever been to Epcot Center in the Land Pavilion at Disney World and seen the hydroponics exhibit there? Besides weed, you can also grow flowers, fruits and vegetables through hydroponics. Ever eaten a cherry tomato from your local grocery store? Most of these are grown with hydroponics. Hydroponics is becoming more popular especially in third world countries where a country's soil has been depleted of all it's nutrients and therefore they cannot use their soil. There is now a cause to help world hunger called Hydro For Hunger. Hydro For Hunger is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing world hunger through the power of hydroponic gardening. So next time you think hydroponics is ONLY used for weed growing purposes think again! This method has been around for centuries and long before any weed was ever grown with it. If you would like to know more of hydroponics advantages and disadvantages I have listed a couple below.
