When you are planning a trip, and it seems like all the hotel rooms have sold out, how do you proceed next?
Assuming you don't intend to cancel your trip, that is. Where can you look to find a place to spend the night that isn't taken even when most online hotel booking agencies say the hotels are full?

Internet booking agencies all claim to be the cheapest. But it stands to reason that somewhere in the price is their commission for introducing hotel and visitor to each other. Has anyone out there had experience of PROVING that it is cheaper to simply turn up at a specific hotel which has been listed on the internet ?

Can someone please tell me exactly how I would go about setting up an online travel agency showcasing hand-picked hotels? NO air travel, ONLY accommodation. Would I need to go through a licensed host agency or do I need my own license for this? What sort of booking engine would I use for this if I only have 200 hotels max? Anyone have any suggestions? Dont waste your time or money, this sounds doomed from the start if you have no idea what program you should be using. Why not try starting with a blog, and learn, if you are serious.Do you know a travel agency who will plan my trip to Europe?
i would like the travel agency to plan where i will be going (i plan to visit many different countries), take care of hotel booking, and transportation!

for e.g for cos. like orbitz, travelocity etc. Do they get a % comission for every hotel booking they get? Do they get any banner ad revenue?

It all depends... Generally most discount airfares are non-refundable and change fees for most airlines are averaging $150. This would be to convert your airfare to travel credit and apply it to another flight. Hotels generally don't charge anything unless you cancel very close to the date of travel (24 hours or fewer prior in many cases). It is important to note that policies vary - some pre-paid packages won't allow refunds for cancellations. The best bet is to ask your travel agent before you book - s/he will be able to give you all of the information you need. Safe travels!Does missing your plane cancel your hotel booking?

We've found an incredible price for the Four Seasons, but it would require us to buy airline tickets as part of a vacation package. We're thinking about buying the package and just not using the tickets - would this be a problem at all? Will the hotel keep our booking, even if we don't show up for our flight?

About a month ago I called a travel agency to book hotel and airline tickets. I received a confirmation for the airline but not the hotel. After I called her the travel agent said she would take care of it we do have reservations. I've been calling her for over a week and she is not returning my calls. I called the hotel and they are all booked with no reservations under my name. What rights do I have.? What is my next step?

Did they charge your credit card for both or just the airfare? If they airfare part is ok, either cancel the whole thing and dispute the credit card charge, or keep the airfare part and book the rest yourself. Obviously if that hotel is booked you need to find another one ASAP, probably on your own... then go to the BBB website and file a complaint there. Main thing is to get your trip booked. Travel companies are known for being idiots so do what you have to do. But really there's no reason to use travel agencies anymore. dboyIn traveling to Rivera Maya are the package deals really the cheapest way to go?
My husband and I have been to the area twice (the last time was 10 years ago.) In the past we booked with packages and used one of the reps at the hotel to book all our activities. We are planning to go this winter with the kids. I am wondering if the cheapest way to stay in an all inclusive resort on the beach is per package or is shopping around for each aspect of the trip separately better?

There are some very good answers here regarding package deals. I have only travelled once paying separately for everything, and ended up spending a lot more than the package deals. We now book packages for all of our holiday travels. There are lots of travel companies that use chartered flights which brings the cost down. Plus they get special rates with the resorts. If you visit a travel agency, you can find travel brochures and magazines that are provided to the travel agency by the companies that do the packages. You can book on line or by phone once you have picked what resort you want to visit. Ignore the negative answers about the Mayan Riviera. Obviously they have no idea about the area. My wife and I visit the Mayan Riviera each year for a two week holiday and also take excursions out of our resort. It's a very safe place to holiday. Like anywhere a person goes in this world, if you are looking for trouble, you will find it.How do D1 colleges make hotel reservations for their teams?
Do they have a faculty member book directly, or do they generally book through travel agencies?
