Apply around and fill out general applications. Do you have previous experience in the hospital setting outside of your clinicals? Look at jobs through the VA too.
How do non profit hospitals work; are doctors who practice there considered government workers?

try calling a community hospital and ask them. Contrary to what the neocons claim, not all of government is bad, and running a community hospital provides decent medical care for those in need.

Univ of Penn and Johns Hopkins are very prestigious institutions, and you would think that the neurologists on staff were of the highest caliber.
You might look at the Cleveland Clinic or Mayo's.
US News and World Reports and other magazines rate US hospitals by reputation and expertise in different specialties. Your local librarian might be able to assist you in this search.
Remember, some neurological problems are not treatable. Sometimes one has to accept this as the final answer.
What are the good hospitals and bad hospitals in Winnipeg?
And how many hospitals are in Winnipeg?
What is the healthcare like in Winnipeg?
Rob
Question answered by Fred C
As far as good hospital, and bad hospital, it really depends on what you are going for. If you need heart surgery, St Boniface is a centre of excellence, one of the best in Canada. Neurosurgery? Health Sciences Centre. Organ transplants? Health Sciences Centre. Orthopaedic surgery? Seven Oaks, Concordia, or Grace. Mental health? Victoria or Health Sciences Centre.
Urgent care, not life-threatening? Misericordia, which is a care centre, no longer a hospital. Childrens' problems including emergency? Children's Hospital. General emergencies? Whichever is nearest.
We have pretty much any care available in Winnipeg that is available anywhere else. Far more important is a doctor, unless you are planning on using the ER as your regular doctor, which is silly.
The only reason hospitals in California are failing, is because they supply medicare to illegals?
Would you agree with that assessment? If hospitals stopped giving care to illegals then we wouldn't have a problem, right?

Yes lots of hospitals are going under because of illegals!!
And I agree 100% with your assesment!!!

Most hospitals have a central Volunteer Office, which is typically part of Community Relations. Sometimes, you can find the volunteer opportunities as a function of the Human Resources department.
I started my career as a hospital volunteer, and it really depends upon the hospital as well. I volunteered and worked at a large 500+ bed acute care trauma facility, so there was a relatively large volunteer program. I started in the summer volunteer program, which had a greater opportunity for volunteers in various areas of the hospital, including media services, administration, engineering, pharmacy, etc. During the rest of the year, most of the duties and responsibilities of the volunteers included reception work, escorting patients and visitors around the hospital, admissions and discharge escorts for patients, delivering newspapers, flowers, and other stuff to patient floors, and various other stuff like that...
Start by looking for the Volunteer Office. There is typically a Director of Volunteer Services that will talk to you about the volunteer program, positions, responsibilities, etc. Since you are pursuing a career in medicine, volunteering is a great way to learn about the environment. That is something that you definitely will want to mention. It is a learning experience for you, and it will provide the hospital with someone who is motivated and wants to learn the environment.
How many hospitals are in Chicago and which ones are the best ones?
How many hospitals are in Chicago and which ones are the best ones? I will soon be an RN and want to work in a good hospital in the Chicago area. I have never been to Chicago so I do not know what it is like there, where I will live, or how far away my workplace would be. What are your experiences with the Chicago hospitals?
Question answered by betiey
There are 215 hospitals in Chicago. Northwestern Hospital and the University of Chicago Hospital are both very nice, but I think you would like being a nurse at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital. It is in a relatively safe neighborhood on the north side of the city and it is a teaching hospital.
Are psychiatric hospitals affective or do more damage?
I would like some information about psychiatric hospitals. What goes on in them? Who is brought into one? But most importantly I would like to know if they are positively affective? Do they do more damage? What makes it different for each person? I mean does whether it is better for someone to be there depend on how they accept being there? If that makes sense. Any information about psychiatric hospitals and mental institutions would be greatly appreciated.

In my personal experience, psychiatric hospitals do more harm than good. You're pretty much forced to take whatever meds they feel like you should be on (if you want any hope of ever being discharged) and then hold you until they feel you're stable. There are too many patients for any real one-on-one therapy, so you spend most of your time in group sessions. Aside from that, you'll maybe see a social worker and/or psychiatrist for a whopping 10 minutes each day, just so they can get a very brief idea of how you're doing, though I don't see how they could possibly tell that quickly. Then eventually you're released with a prescription for whatever they put you on and a very traumatic experience under your belt. In my case, I went for extreme panic attacks (but they thought I was suicidal so they brought me there and put me under suicide watch). Once they realized I wasn't suicidal, they let me go in a record 2 1/2 days, just in time for New Years Eve. Either way, they didn't help me at all, and in fact made me worse from the trauma and the scary feeling of being in a psychiatric hospital. As soon as I got home I threw away the prescription for the antidepressants they put me on and was right back to square one. I wouldn't recommend going unless you are a danger to yourself or others. In all other cases, outpatient is the way to go. If your problem is very severe, try to go more than once per week.
