Need help finding a company or supplier?

Are there any haberdasheries in Orange County?

I live in HB and I need to know where the nearby haberdasheries are. If this is in the wrong category, please tell me which one it should go in.

What do haberdashery stores sell?

I want to buy wool and a crotchet needle. Would a haberdashery store sell these things? If not, what do they sell? Thanks.

Yes, haberdashery sells those things. Wool, cotton, knitting needles, sewing machines, buttons and zips and pins and ribbons and all kinds of things like that. I work in John Lewis and they have a habby section. :)

Where can I buy dressmaking fabric in west London?

I am looking for a good store that sells a variety of afforable fabrics for dressmaking, and other dressmaking/sewing materials - haberdashery, patterns, accessories etc. Similar to Lincraft or Spotlight in Australia. Am looking anywhere in London, but preferably in the west. Not online stores though. I would like to be able to touch the fabric before I buy. I am looking to sew my own clothes/bags etc. I don't want to buy huge quantities. Just enough for personal use.

Question answered by Vanessa L

There are lots of fabric shops as there is the London School of Fashion quite close to Oxford Street and Instituto Marangoni another fashion school so students are always buying cheap and varied fabrics. I have spent a whole day in just 3 stores!!! Go to the nearest information centre and get them to give you a list of addresses and phone no.s to check opening times etc. Alternatively look in yellow pages for fabrics shops, needlework and sewings supplies etc. They will list loads. Have fun!

Where in Leeds city centre could I buy small fake decorative flowers for use on clothes?

I'd like some tiny fake flowers to stitch onto a dress. I live in Leeds and want to know if there are any cheap haberdashery shops or somewhere else where I could buy this sort of thing. They should be tiny and pink - like roses. Please help!

Where can I buy the adjustable sliders for braces and what are they called ?

I need to replace the slider bit on a pair of braces - the bit that adjusts the length of the strap, not the bit that clips onto the trousers - but I can't find out either what that part is called or where to buy it from. I am housebound so cannot try my local haberdashery shop - I need to buy online.

How to add texture to an acrylic painting?

I'm doing a painting right now with acrylic paint, and it's a beach scene. There are some rocks in the foreground that I want to add some realistic texture to. They look rather flat so far :( I want to create texture that is gritty and 'rock like'. They do sell the gel paste in the local haberdashery but it's extremely expensive. What are some ways that I can add texture to this to make the rocks look more realistic? Thank you!

Question answered by Brenda

Working with acrylic paint produces a result similar to oils. Acrylic paint is water-based so it doesn't smell like oils and it comes in various densities and shades. Adding texture and blending colors is easy to do with acrylic paint. 1. Use different painting tools like spatulas or sponges. You can spread acrylic paint or stamp it onto your canvas to create different texture. A flat edge smears thick lines or saws a thin line. 2. Find unusual objects to create texture. Objects like leaves, twigs or rocks create unique patterns and textures in thick acrylic paint if you press the object to wet paint. Try out items like the sole of a shoe. 3. Mix additives with acrylic paint to change the texture. Coarse pumice gel makes a crumbling effect like sand where a clean tar gel creates thin, fine-stream texture. Soft gels cause egg white type peaks and a matte thickens the density. 4. Add natural elements like sand or small pebbles to acrylic paint. Blend With Acrylic Paint 5. Start painting your first color on the canvas. If you have a large area to paint, you may want to paint in sections. 6. Clean your brush with water and wipe on a paper towel or cloth. 7. Add your second color to the canvas. Once you reach your first color the paint naturally begins to blend, so start painting away from your first color. 8. Keep the paint wet. If you can't work quickly enough, add acrylic gel retarder to the paints on your palette or spray the canvas and palette with a mist of water to prevent drying.

How to start a clothing line/business?

I'm 18 years old and in my last few months of college. I havem't studied fashion OR business but I think that's what I want to get into. I have all these ideas for clothes and really want to just start making them and maybe selling them on eBay? I know how to sew and have loads of haberdashery/materials at home to start off with. My mum used to make her own clothes so she has the know how and ideas to help me too. But how do I start out? All advise and suggestions are much appreciated Thanks in advance. . . =)

-Get reliable employees who are experienced in fashion design and merchandising. -Talk with a few fashion experts to see what direction you want your line to go in. -Research patterns, colors and designs. -Start small by selling them at your local street corner get people's opinions about your clothes and what they like/don't like about them. -Make sure you have enough time to make the garments. -Start off with a small website to sell your clothes, if it makes a lot of sales then start your own business.

Question answered by Kevin

I'm studying fashion and business at college and my advice for the fashion side of things is learn how to create design sheets of your ideas, produce a prototype of the final design using cheap fabric then once you get the fitting right then use expensive fabric, as for selling, eBay is a good place to start off at, take high quality pictures of your garments on a model and put it up on ebay, the more pictures you add the more likely you will be able to sell the garments.

Job interview tips for a sales assistant role?

I'm 17 and this is my first real world interview. It's for a sales assistant role at a reputable shop. They will sell home goods, haberdashery items, electronics and gym equipment. I need some useful questions to ask the employer and some general tips. I have a few questions currently but I don't want to seem to arrogant by asking questions like 'How did you feel this interview went'. I don't know if questions like that would be applicable for this sort of position. Thanks :)

Question answered by Simon Wallace

Asking questions about the job will help to highlight your enthusiasm for the particular job you are going for. This will give you the chance to ask questions that show that you are keen to learn, work within a team and to highlight your skills. I have recently been studying the sector and found X particularly interesting. Will my job allow me to further this interest? Who will I be working with in this role? Who will I report to? I am particularly good at using Microsoft Excel. Will I be able to use this skill in this job? How will this job fit into the wider workings of the business?
