MYOB: How do you record the purchase of a going concern?

I'm using MYOB Accounting Plus v.17, for study. I have to enter a journal entry for the purchase of a going concern from a company. The assets acquired were motor cars, delivery trucks, furniture & fittings, and goodwill. Question is do I record it as a journal entry from the Accounts command center? Or in the Purchases command center? And what is Goodwill classified as? Current or non-current asset?

Question answered by ANISE

Enter it through the accounts command centre as a journal entry. Goodwill in a non-current asset (or better still an intangible asset)

Did you take any photos of the shabby furniture/ dirty grill etc? You can try to get compensation from the agent, but if you have no joy, try cantacting your local Trading Standards office. They might be able to help.

Question answered by JZD

You may be. As with so many of these questions, it depends. If you rented within the UK, it's a simple matter is mis-description. If the renter represented to you that for your wonga you would get an apartment of a certain standard with certain facilities, and you didn't - you are entitled to reclaim the difference in value between what you rented and what you actually got. That's usually assessed by a percentage of the rental cost. If you rented abroad as part of a package, then you are entitled to the same protection under the Package Tours Regulations against the tour operator. If included the link below which sets out the Regulations in full. Your route to recompense is the county court and assuming the claim is less than £5,000, the claim is assigned to the small claims track, where there is a nil costs regime, win or lose.

directions for making a bare piece of furniture look primitive?

I am making furniture and want it to look primitive when I am finished. I need to know what steps to take.

marcia

Question answered by split dog

Depends on what you mean by "primitive". Distressing is one thing. Primitive construction is another. Keep in mind that the "real thing" was built without the use of modern power tools & fasteners. Glue, pegs & dowels ,for the most, part were commonly used , but methods would vary from one region to another. Lap joints , motrise & tenon , "breadboard" ends on tables were common. Hand cut dovetail joints were also used but not with the "machine like" precision used on furniture in the Shaker tradition. The "primitive' look is a function of construction as well as the age of the piece where over time the wood wil check & joints will open slightly since it was often worked while still green. Ok to use power tools , but board edges & surfaces can be lightly planed to show "tool marks" Using stains as mentioned , like coffee, tea, & even cola on bare wood will help enhance the look. Mechanical distressing is appropriate in some cases but bashing the entire piece with keys & chains will look like you bashed the piece w/ keys & chains. Better to put in a few dings, here & there w a piece of wood, even knife cuts. Natural wear would be on top surfaces & corners & around drawer/door openings ,drawer/door edges . Hand sanding is OK but dragging a rough piece of wood across openings & corners to break sharp edges is closer to how it got that way. One "giveaway" is uniform wood thickness....thicker or thinner than what is commonly found these days . Would always look for old salvage wood. Finish distressing is OK for pieces found in "quaint" motel lobbies. Repaired a number of "primitive" pieces for antique shops & had to" fake" the look, also, they were not all that primitive. Amazing work & some had no metal fittings in them at all. Finishing for a primitive look is a whole other story. & it would be best to avoid any stain that comes from a can & stick to the "beverages" mentioned by others & hand rubbed shellac w/ a good waxing. If that looks too "new,' might partially strip the shellac w/ denatured alcohol & do it again. Best regards
