Question answered by spiffer1

An extremely rapid shift in North America is from 'traditional' funeral services to 'non-religious' services and even to no 'celebration/recognition (at least public) of a death'. Another major shift (again in North America) has been more people choosing cremation over bodily interment.

Would you like to have your funeral services held a your local Walmart?

Inspired by Shortstuff's question about Walmart selling caskets and urns. What if Walmart offered funeral services at a discounted price too?

NONAME

Question answered by Paul N

I would prefer the produce section please. Would that be too much to ask.? I would think that it might be bad for business if they relegated funeral services to the garden area or the meat department either one.

Do you think it would be better if funeral services were run on a strictly non-profit basis?

It’s just that commercial funeral companies make this tragic event, this life changing experience that most of us have to go through when a loved one dies, seem so tacky and callous. Maybe if the government took over running funeral services so that we all get the same kind of funeral, we all get the same basic casket and we all get buried on common land, this would make funerals more dignified?

Question answered by Steve B

With all due respect, what company would do any service if there wasn't some sort of financial gain to be had? Funeral services are a particularly unpleasant job and nobody in their right mind would be in the business of performing these services if there was no personal benefit to balance against the extreme personal hardship of having to deal with grieving people that you don't even know.

What is ettiquette for attire at funeral services?

Going to a funeral service & don't have black to wear as suggested by a cple of my friends. What's the ettiquette in clothing attire for a funeral service? I won't buy something I won't wear once. Would it be proper to just have a business casual outfit? I have brown pants & white shirt, will that work? Should I wear a tie?

cpadude08

Question answered by Britt

Yea, the brown pants and the white shirt will be fine, and yes I think you should wear a tie. I've noticed that people don't always wear black to funerals anymore. As long as you look respectable I think it is fine.

Question answered by Rosco

White colour is symbol of sadness, but black colour mean dark, evil, dont wear anything dark. Wear white shirt and jeans and a grey coat. And a blue tie. Best format setup for a funeral

Does anyone know the schedule of funeral services for Sandy Hook Elementary School victims in CT?

my friends and i are planning to visit the town this Saturday to offer our sympathy and prayers; it would really be great if there will be a prayer or funeral service that we could attend. thanks!

Question answered by Live from my sofa

I do not recommend crashing the services if you don't know anyone involved personally. Those events are going to be thronged enough just with family and community. Please give the mourners a little breathing room.

What's the right etiquette for attending funeral services?

It's a catholic funeral service for a family member of a business partner. There's a mass first and then there's a visitation. But I have prior engagements and I can only go to one... is it OK to go to the Mass only and not the visitation, or viceversa? I would prefer to go to the Mass only and give my condolences. Let me know if you're familiar with specific etiquette on these situations... Thanks.

Question answered by Elle

Sure, it's OK. You're a good person to try to go to one of them when I'm sure it would be more convenient not to go at all, since you have other plans.

What are some funny jokes/stories to tell at a funeral service ?

I need funny jokes or stories to tell at a funeral service tonight, just to lighten up the mood of the folks. Any rude comments, please , don't post anything.

Question answered by dog on sofa

I would suggest making a referrence to something the deceased found funny and something that most people there will quickly recognize as his sense of humour. If you go with a regular ice-breaker joke it could be seen as very tacky, or even inappropriate.
