How do you tell the difference between a Somali pirate with inocent fishermen?
They both from the same place, Somalia.
Fishermen carries weapon to protect themselves.
Pirates carries fishing gear to feed themselves.
What's your opinion on this?
and How to differentiate between them both?
I know about them..
If you're in a boat at Somali's waters, then you can see them from far, how to know whether they are pirates or not, so we can run away from them

Snyker, There is one sure way to tell the difference. If the boats have long ladders attached to the sides, it is a pirate ship. Fisherman never need ladders; pirates need them to board the ships they attack.
Plunking is a pastime for many Northwest fishermen what is the chances of harm to a fish?
I have noticed many fishermen plunking saying that they revive every bleeding fish and I am wondering how many fish can survive the act of trying to revive a bleeding fish. Is there any one that can say the only bleeding around the head is the Gill rakers damaged? When blood is present the fish will die no amount of reviving will save the fish?

Question answered by chris w
"Plunking" is just using a heavier weight in turbulent water to keep your bait or lure where the fish are.
With that said yes "some" fish do get injured in the process and die, those you keep. Some fish the injury is minor and the fish can recover it is like being thumped in the chest like a bruise. That it is up to the fisherman to determine if the fish can survive is true, an ethical fisherman will take great care to do the right thing.
What does it take for someone to be considered a pro fishermen?
I don't mean people who fish in tournaments. Say you're at a lake and you see a guy over here and a guy over there. How can you tell who's a better fishermen? It can't be simply by how many fish they catch, can it?

A pro makes his living by fishing- that would be tournament fishing-
A good fisherman is known by his catches of fish over a lengthy period of time. You can't tell if someone is a good fisherman by seeing him catch a fish or two on the lake. Anyone can get lucky every now and then.
But the guy that has a good reputation for catching fish, does it by knowledge, skill, and persistence.
How many of the Lords 12 disciples were fishermen?
The 12 men who were the followers of Jesus of Nazareth came from many backgrounds. But the overwhelming majority came from a fishing background. I believe time spent fishing is good for the soul. Communion with Nature. Was it 6 fishermen and possibly 2 others who were maybe fishermen?

Why does Pakistan or India captures fishermen in Indian Ocean?
I understand that fishermen must be crossing some Line of Control but don't they know abt the Line of Control or the dividing line between two countries so that this does not happen again. What is the reason behind capturing fishermen?

Question answered by D.S
The thing is, there has always been tension between the two countries and both suspect each other of sending spies disguised as fishermen. There have been some ridiculous instances from both sides when fishermen were detained with no proof of spying.

How come ocean fishermen rarely catch those colorful exotic fish?
I've never seen fishermen catch all those colorful coral fishes such as butterfly fish, colorful eels, etc. Why is it so hard to catch them?

Question answered by Peter_AZ
First of all, for the most part they don't live in non-tropical waters, where most people in the U.S. fish. Second, they're small (a couple inches long is pretty typical size for reef fish). Third, they're often not very good eating. Then, they may be protected -- the Garibaldi, which is a bright orange perch-like fish (babies are orange with neon-blue trim), is illegal to keep in California.
Finally, there are a number of brightly colored fish which are commonly caught (bright green, like dorado, bright pink or red like many deep water rockfish, etc.), but by the time they get back to the dock, the colors have faded considerably.
What are those yellow pants that fishermen wear called?
What are those pants that fishermen wear, called? Where can I get them ? Thanks

Question answered by dumdum
They are mostly worn by commercial fishermen. The bibs are the bottom half of a yellow slicker suit. When the fishermen run their tackle and raise their nets, it keeps the slime and mess off their clothing. You will need to buy them from almost any place that sells slicker suits for the outdoorsman. One sure place to get them from is from Jonesville Net company located in Jonesville Louisiana. Just type in Jonesville net company and look for the phone number in the link.

Question answered by Nurse Ashlina
It wouldn't surprise me. Dolphins and seals eat fish- fish that the fisherman want to catch. I know that dolphins can get caught in fishing nets and they are killed that way too. It may not be a majority, but surely there are, or have been some dolphins who were killed.
