What does a financial services marketing company actually do?
If you worked for one, like sales or operations, what would the work entail? Anybody know?

A financial services marketing company seeks out prospects for financial services. That could be done through direct mail, researching public records and telephone solicitations. They then sell the "leads" that are developed to providers (sellers) of financial services.
What are some jobs in financial services that don't require a BA or BS degree?
I'd like to work in financial services and I'm willing to take any and all classes that pertain to that. But I just don't want to sit through the required classes to get a four-year degree. I'd like to earn about $37K per year. I know that sounds low in this day and time, but that's what I'd like to earn, as material things don't mean a lot to me. Any suggestions?

I know one - own your own business. LOL. but seriously it is. You can even start your own business without any degree at all. If you are good at numbers and financial services, you should go for a lending corporation or a banking business.
How do you start a financial services company?
How do you start your own personal financial services company. What are the steps that one must do besides acquire the required licenses and eduacation? How do you gain access to the financial products that you must sell?

Since you've never been in business before, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. You have to determine whether you'll start a web based business or one with a store front. I'd call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.
The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a financial services company and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll go after them.
You'll need to register the business with your state controller's office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.

What is the financial services industry like in Dallas, TX?
I am a college student who is less than a year away from graduation. I currently live and go to school in Louisiana. I am a finance major and through research I found that the financial services industry is very strong in Texas, particularly in Dallas and Houston. Dallas seems like more of a fit for me and I'm considering moving there when I graduate. I want to work in financial planning. I am mainly just trying to feel out my options. If you could list some of the financial firms, then that would be great.

So you have a job interview on Saturday May 26th?
Today is Friday 5/25.
The position you are describing is also called a Personal Banker or Licensed Personal Banker.
The salary would depend on your qualifications, skills, training and experience?
Plus the cost of living index in your job market.
When you say the job positing did it specify a salary range?
You can ask that in the job interview if the topic of salary is presented to you by the Hiring Manager or HR Recruiter?
Typically, to start these positions pay $24,000 to $30,000 per year to start plus incentive bonus opportunities quarterly?
Again it depends if this is with a Bank or Credit Union?
Banks pay better than CU's.
The future is BRIGHT for financial advisors since 78 million people are scheduled to retire over the next 25 years 2005 - 2030.
They have $1.8 Trillion in Assets.
THey are the Baby Boomer era and its going to be a GOLD MINE for financial services and professionals in this field like you.
You have chosen a great career path.
GOOD LUCK! In your interview tomorrow.
What can I do with a degree in applied buisiness and financial services?
I want to go to college to get my bachelors degree in financial services. (Stocks, insurence, investments, ect) However I know that banks are trying to lower the number of workers they have and I dont want to end up selling insurance or anything like that. I would like to trade up stocks or tell companies how to better spend they're money. Can I do that with this degree? What could I do with it?
Thanks! 10 points for reasonable answer!

Well if you don't want to go into financial services, one option you could consider is consulting. Consulting will give you better exposure to different clients, industry sectors, and business environments than working for a bank anyway.
You will also have more control and be able to take full ownership of your career. You can position yourself more towards service side if you like "doing" and getting direct involvement in all the actions. Or you can align yourself more to advisory roles if you like "advising" and having a broad vision of the overall engagement and where it's heading.
The job is not routine. It is very dynamic. As you go from one client to another, the challenges come in different twists of flavor. Your work will always be appreciated (unlike bankers, who are just corporate drones). The sense of satisfaction in consulting is unmatched by any other job industries.
All in all, it is a prestigious professional field with great compensations and mobility. Even if you decide to move on to do something else or get MBA, the consulting experience will earn you the respect, bolster your resume, and equip you with the skills and confidence to walk and lead any business circle on a successful path.
How bad does your credit have to be to not be hired by a financial services company?
I'm applying for a position with a financial services company, and my credit score is in the low to mid 600's. My payment history has been quite good over the last year and a half.
Thanks for the responses so far. I have late payments about 2 years ago. Over the last 1.5 to 2 years, my payment history has been flawless. My credit score is still low, but I have no bankruptcies/no judgments either. Think I'm ok?

As a future hire in a Financial Service position, your credit is a huge factor in your hiring process. You will be qualified on your credibility, which is understandable. They must know that you are a good custodian of credit yourself before they would allow you to consult with future clientèle.
Now with that being said, you need to continue making the proper financial moves pressing forward for credibility servicing but that won't fix the derogatory items you currently have for some time.
You have absolutely one option here before you engage the financial services firm for employment. That is credit repair. Go to http://ineedagoodcreditscore.com/ and call these guys immediately! You will be represented by a team of attorneys that are extreme pit bulls in enforcing credit consumer laws. They will make a impact on your credit report within the first 30-45 days that will allow you to walk into your future work place with your chin up and chest out.
There is no other company out there that can assist you the way that they will.
Good Luck,

What is the difference between Corporate finance major and a Financial Services major?
What is the difference between Corporate finance major and a Financial Services major? And which one has more job opportunities? Can anyone explain it to me? Thanks!
Shinichi
Question answered by John B
I guess your school seperates the two - most just have Finance majors. The difference amounts to where you would like to work - Financial Services would mean you intended on working for a bank, investment bank, hedge fun, Private Equity firm, Venture Capital, Asset Manager, etc - essentially working on Wall Street.
Corporate Finance jobs are finance jobs inside of a company that produces a product or service other than investing money.
How do I start my career in financial services?
I have a economics background and would like to get into financial services.
can anyone shed some light

Question answered by KatGuy
The best career for someone in economics who wants to get into financial services is to try becoming an actuary. Actuaries are always in demand, but the exams are difficult. Otherwise start searching for jobs at insurance companies, banks, brokerages, or become an independent financial advisor.
