Fencing - I want to put a 6ft tall fence (preferably wooden) in my garden. Will need a gate too. How much?
would this cost? The area is approximately 10 metres then a gate at the side - this area is 1.5 metres.
I know absolutely nothing about fencing so any help would be very much appreciated.
Also is it better to get a proper fencing contractor or could I do this myself with the help of friends?
Question answered by ~*cathee*~
we put a 6 ft fence all the way from the end of the back garden right down to the end of the drive.if i recall rightly we paid around £350 - £400.
then we got a 6 ft gate to go across the drive and that cost around £400 .
you can get gates cheaper but you want it to look good don't ya.
my partner put them all in so it will cost more if you want someone to do this for ya.

What should I get for my dad for Fathers Day?
He likes to hunt, fish, and he is a fence contractor. He doesn't like sports, he is not a sporty person, but he is not gay! He also owns chickens, but he isn't a farmer.
It has to be a good though!

Add to any gift a list of the reasons why you appreciate him. Perhaps have it inscribed on a wall plague.
Please don't get a joke card. In my 20+ years of working with fathers, it has been rare that a joke card that makes fun of his abilities is really appreciated.
I wrote this to "Dear Abby" for Father's Day, March 19, 2005.
APPRECIATION FOR JOB WELL DONE IS WHAT FATHERS WANT TO HEAR
DEAR ABBY: Today is Father's Day, so why don't we try to do more for dear old Dad than give him the usual greeting card that promotes the idea that all dads are imbeciles, followed by a collect call to see what he thought of the card. (Father's Day is the day when the most collect calls are made.)
We should treat our fathers the way we treat our mothers on Mother's Day and show them we appreciate them for being there. Yes, you probably tell your father all the time that you love him, but the minds of men work differently. Anyone can say "I love you," but as men, knowing that we are appreciated for a job well done is what really gets us teary-eyed.
Something else you can do -- especially you sons out there (but daughters can do it, too) -- is to make sure Dad has been to the doctor for a checkup, including depression screening. This can go a long way toward making sure he's here on Father's Day next year.
I wasn't raised by my father, but by a stepfather. Although we did not see eye-to-eye on many things, I would not be the person I am today if it were not for him. This man, who spent years climbing on top of heavy construction equipment to prepare the ground for many of the homes, businesses, roads and highways of Southern California, now finds it difficult to get into a car. Although none of the houses or roads have his name on them, they are all testaments to his life and the lives of men like him.
So today, let's do something extra for Dad, without him pulling out his wallet to pay for it. -- George McCasland, Overland Park, Kansas
Remember, there's a lot of us fathers sitting in nursing homes whose children live too far away to visit. Contact an activities director about volunteering Sunday morning. Read a list out loud about why you appreciated your father.
Where is a great place to live in Colorado?
I am looking to move to Colorado, I have two daughters that will move with me and my husband. One in high school, the other elementary. My husband is a fence contractor and I work in accounting, usually in long term care.

Other than the mountains, (which are more expensive), anywhere in the Denver metro area would probably work well for you. Some people might say Boulder, and it is a nice town, but it's also more expensive.
When looking for a contractor to put up a fence, what questions should I ask?
I want to put up a wood, 6ft, privacy fence with a gate in the back and front. It must be flush to the ground to prevent my cats from getting out. I have a small yard and will need about 300 feet of fence. One contractor quoted something like $5000 including $1300 for labor. Is this right? What do I need to know when others come out for quotes?

Once you have decided to install a fence, you should be prepared to discuss the following points with you fence professional:
The purpose of the fence

The contractor guarantees workmanship. The term of a warranty will vary from product to product. Be sure to read the fine print on all warranties
How do I select a good fence contractor?
The American Fence Association recommends that you do your homework before you select a fence contractor. It is acceptable to interview different contractors before you make a decision on whom to use. Some questions you should ask:
Does your company hold liability and workman's compensation insurance?
Can you supply me with a sample of your contract and products?
What type of guarantee and warranty comes with the fence?
Do you belong to your National or Local Trade Association?
Fence contractors that belong to AFA abide by a strict code of ethics governing quality workmanship and business practices (this does not, in any way, imply that non-members are not reputable companies).

My dad, Steve Hill's Home Improvement, has been a contractor for over 30 years. I've been working with him for practically half my life, and he brings the quality that I believe you as a homeowner is looking for. He's the most reliable and hardest working person I've ever come across - he gets the job done right. If I was financially ready for a house, he would be the person I would choose out of the entire state of Georgia. Hands down.
Give him a call, I promise you won't regret it.
