Nothing, except in a 'boutique', one sells 'quality', one doesn't do 'cheap'. That would be 'soo non-U Daarling'. The all important thing when opening a shop, is location. If you pay higher rents because the image you wish to promote requires a relatively high profile and the prices will have to reflect this. A boutique requires an image whereas an Indian shop requires an Indian, or Indian produce. Incidentally, where i live, it's diffcult to find a shop not run by Indians. Good luck!

Is it weird or unusual to ask the sale personnel in the fashion shop to give you a make-over?

I'm thinking of buying some new clothes but I don't really have a good fashion sense. Yeah, actually it is quite normal. I've seen a lot of people ask sales personnel what they think looks better and asks them if they can find something that matches with an item. Most sales personnel would be happy to help you out. It sure beats standing in one spot saying, "Hi, how are you? Do you need help with anything?" Actually, at most luxury stores the personnel make it a point to help you find what you want and show you what they think will look nice. A lot of sales personnel will try to show you what shirt or pants they think would look nice and what would match better with what. (They get a share of the sale if they helped you out, so really you're doing them a favor.) To answer your second question, I have found that women are more willing to spend time helping you find nice outfits. The men usually enjoy lounging around and would rather just find the right size for you, but not help you mix and match. The women tend to show you more options and give it thought. Although, I've had some interesting experiences with homosexual male sales people at a local Ralph Lauren store and although they dressed kind of strange they gave great suggestions.

Bugis area. They have a few push-cart types of stalls. Just alight at Bugis MRT and shop around the area. It is more for the young people. If not, you can also try Dempsey road area or Orchard area. Theres tons of fashion shops out there.

You would probably want to survey people in the fashion industry to see if anyone is interested. If you will need a license depends on the person renting to you. However if this is only a one time event you may want to coordinate it with maybe a health fair or some type of carnival to insure that you will have people taking a interest other than the vendors. (think church event)
