Need help finding a company or supplier?

What (garment) fabric shops with a wide range of textiles can be found in/near Aberdeen UK?

I'm looking for silk crepe and satin shantuse in coral colours. Looking for fabric shops similar to the size and variety you would get in a place like Shepherds Bush/ Southall London. Willing to travel as far as Edinburgh, Glasgow or Dundee if need be. Thanks! Hi, Thanks sorry yeah it's satin shamuse!

You might want to read Kate Dicey's remarks on UK fabric shops at http://www.katedicey.co.uk -- click resources, then Kate's fabric list. She seems to do a good share of her shopping via mail order. Shanteuse? Could you mean charmeuse?

Try Liberty's in London for inspiration at http://www.liberty.co.uk/ or maybe your weekly market / car booter may have a fabric trader. Other than that ask your mum or gran and don't forget to try the charity shops! Good luck

Tips on how to be safe when getting ear pierced from a fabric shop?

Alright, so I am getting my ear pierced tomorrow, the cartlidge i.e a helix. Anyway its not from a established piercing shop, its a fabric shop and they do the odd lobes or whatever. They may not be that hygenic, e.g. gloves sterile equipment. SO what should I take and bring e.g detol, gloves what? and be caution of what? Its with a gun by the way!

Question answered by Julia H

You must be insane. What with all the germs and diseases flying about, and you want to go to an unlicensed and, at the very least, a possible health hazard. Go to a proper 'piercer' It's easier, generally pain free, and a damn sight more hygienic than a Singer sewing machinist.

What type of fabric should I use to make my winter coat?

I am planning on making a winter coat for myself as a fun project and I am wondering what type of fabric I should use. We live in TN so it does get cold and snow, but not that much. My pattern says cotton, coton blends, poplin, gabardine. and China silk for the lining. What do you think of those fabrics, not really knowledgeable about them? Thank you in advanced. Oh and what are some good online fabric shops with cheap priced fabric, budget is tight these days and JoAnns is a bit high sometimes.

Question answered by thejanith

I made mine out of fleece and lined it with a layer of quilt batting and two layers of shiny fabric. (I bought the lining fabric at discount shops that had no labels, so they are "shiny fabric.") Of course, I was in the Chicago area when I made it. You wouldn't need the quilt-batting layer of lining, I'd guess. Do the outer layer of fleece (mine's black, so it still looks like a grown-up coat I can wear with a dress) and the inner layer of flannel. That should be toasty enough for a place that doesn't freeze for too many weeks in a row. If it rains a lot where you are, go to a sporting goods shop and buy a can of water-repelling spray.

Where can I buy fabric in the UK to sew baby clothes?

I'm expecting and thought I'd make some baby clothes, I have the patterns but not been able to source any suitable fabrics that I can buy in the UK as yet. I've mainly been looking on-line and in local fabric shops. I would like cotton interlock knit fabrics, that are colourful, patterned and a good price. If you know of any fabric shops that stock such fabric it would be great to hear from you, thanks.
