Can a pin hole in the enamel on enamel-coated cast iron cookware cause enamel to crack?
We just got a shipment of enamel-coated cast iron cookware today and the skillet seems to have unfinished enamel on it. There's a small, pin-sized hole on the bottom on the inside. We were wondering if anything could get between the enamel and the cast iron or if it might chip at a later date?
Or any other problems it might cause? Please let us know if we need to return the product.

I would return it. Once a chip or opening occurs on enamel coated cookware, rust will start forming, and continue to form. Resulting in an on going rust, and chipping off of the enamel. Can you understand this? Maybe it just sounds funny, but that is what happens. Byee
What is enameling on jewelery and how is it done?
I desperately need to know what enameling on jewelery is, when it's used and how it's done. Thanks.
Emma!!! ( :
Question answered by mariner31
Enameling on jewelery refers to enamel (or vitreous enamel or porcelain enamel)...the colorful result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating on metal, glass or ceramic.
An enamel paint is a paint that air dries to a hard, usually glossy, finish (simulating porcelain enamel) In reality, most commercially-available enamel paints are significantly softer than either vitreous enamel or stoved synthetic resins.
I Hope that helps
How can I clean a white enamel sink that has ground in grime?
The house we've moved to has a white enamel kitchen sink. It's really dirty looking. I've tried soft scrub and the scrubbing bubbles stuff and it hasn't worked. We have really hard water here. Any ideas?

We also have a white enameled sink. I use either Comet or Ajax. If that doesn't work I've used Kaboom! that stuff is awesome, just spray it, leave it sit a while, scrub it off, rinse and voila! As a back up I use plain old bleach, spray that on and leave it sit for about 1/2 hour and just rinse. Out of the 3 I usually go for the easiest, and that would be the bleach.
What is the difference between enamel paint and acrylic paint?
What is the basic difference between yesterdays enamel automotive paint and todays acrylic paint.
Would you maintain both the same way? What would you do different?

Question answered by josestaco1
It depends on the brand of paint and what state you live in. Different states allow different chemicals in paints.
"Yesterdays Enamel" as you call it is probably a synthetic (straight enamel) which is a less durable and less glossy paint. It is most commonly used on equipment because it is less expensive. Synthetic enamel is more difficult to spray.
Acrylic enamel is much better, easy to use paint.

Question answered by zotdirector
These vessels are perfect for long cooking dishes like soups, stews and they are perfect for braises.
You can fry in one and it is possible for sticking to occur but it has only happened to me with heavily battered foods and that can be avoided by holding the food in the oil for a few seconds before dropping it in all the way
One thing to note on cleaning, never take a hot enameled, vessel and put it in cold water, the temperature shock can cause the enamel to crack, wait till it is cool to wash it.
What is the best way to paint with enamel when you are brushing it on?
I am painting with a high gloss enamel and it seems too thick- I want it to be smoother and not as thick looking. Any suggestions?
Steph
Question answered by bdat40oz
Just chill...brush it on and dont mess with it, high gloss enamel is self leveling. Remember to paint with paint not your brush...in other words keep your brush wet with paint and dont let it dry out. Most people seem to think that using foam brushes are better but they are no different ..both leave brush marks. The paint is thick so it self levels. Again brush it on thick and dont keep messing with it. Work forward and lightly brush back into what you already painted..kinda feathering it in. Leave it and you will be suprised... You want it to be thick!!!
What dental procedure is necessary if I have a tooth that has little enamel left?
I have a tooth that has little enamel left that I wonder how a dentist would be able to remove it. I have this destroyed tooth for a long time but I feel no pain in it. So I just ignore it even if it continues to decay. Now I'm getting worried about it. Can this tooth be extracted through a simple tooth extraction procedure or do I have to undergo root canal procedure or other dental procedures?

Question answered by Dental Keli
If the root is healthy then you can get a veneer put on which is a cover made of porcelain and this acts like a new enamel cover. If the tooth is beyond saving then it can be extracted and this can be done as a normal extraction or a surgical removal, the difference is a few stitches are needed.

What is the best clear coat finish to use over a table painted with enamel paint?
I have painted a table with enamel paint and would like to have some sort of clear coat over it to protect it
I have painted two coats and now it's not as smooth as i would like. How can I fix that if I don't do a clear coat?
Stacey
Question answered by MissWong
It won't get smoother with a finish coat. Most finish coats are intended to go over raw wood and are not meant to go over enamel. Enamel is all you need. You can very lightly sand any rough places and put a light coat of enamel over that to smooth the finish. Use a good quality brush when applying enamel and brush in one direction to get the best look without too much paint. If the paint goes on thick it will dry looking less than smooth.
