The electric companies keep buying each other. Now Dominion is in the Boston area and Nstar Electric bought Boston Edison. Cambridge has a municipal electric company (Cambridge Municipal I think it is called). Most gas customers have to use NSTAR.How do electricity companies disconnect power lines?
im writing a story about something to do with an electricity company, by any chance, to disconnect a power line would any electricity company ever go to the location (someones house) and manually disconnect the power (by cutting through it or???) perhaps if it was unregistered, or underground or both? Thanks a lot!

No, it's too dangerous to cut a live wire. And what do you do with the dangling ends? They remove a fuse in your breaker box, I believe, and put a special locked mechanism in place to prevent you from bypassing it. .In Houston - Sugar Land, TX area which are best electricity companies for residential consumption?
We are in switching mode from Atlanta to Houston Sugar land area. Which are the best rates electricity companies? What else we should keep as deciding factors while finalizing the electricity companies . Say like some give cash back/air conditioning maintenance but air conditioning maintenance we many not like to have ... We will be having big house 3100 sq feet on rent having 2 stories - 4 bed rooms! So probably electricity in Houston would be one of our major routine expenses!

Reliant Energy and TXU are good companies. The deposit would have to be worked out with one of them. The deposit is given back in a length of time.How do I work out these electricity calculations?
If an electricity company charges 16p per unit, how much would it cost to run these appliances? -100watts light bulb for 5 hours -770 watts toaster for 5 minutes -3 kilowatts electric fire for 3 hours? I also need the working out for each of these!!!

100watts light bulb for 5 hours = 500 watt-hours = 0.5 kWh 770 watts toaster for 5 minutes = 770/12 = 64.16 watt-hours = 0.064 kWh (divided by 12, because 5 minutes is 1/12th part of an hour) 3 kilowatts electric fire for 3 hours = 9 kWh Total consumption: 9.564 kWh (kiloWatt-hours) And if the electricity company charges 16p/unit, it would mean charges of 16p/kWh. So the total cost would be 16p * 9.564 = 153.02pWhat are things you should look for when finding an electric company?
My wife and I are moving to Davis, CA and we have to look up an electric company to use. We've never looked up electric companies to choose from however because the electricity has always been part of the rent in past places we've lived in. What things in an electricity company (besides monthly price) should we look for? Any good electricity companies in Davis, CA that anyone knows about? And are there sites where people have rated different electricity companies so that we know which companies to avoid during our search?

Normally there is only one electricity provider in the area. The landlord can give you the information of who to contact.What should the average electricity consumption be for a 4 bedroom house?
The electricity company bumped my price up to £120 per month - it is slowly coming down, but I wonder what the average consumption should be - the electricity company wasn't able to tell me!

We are a family of 4 living in a four bed house. We pay £50 per month for electricity and £50 per month for gas. I do turn off lights and use energy efficient bulbs. We are with Powergen for both. But I think the companies are all roughly the same.What are some other electic companies in my area?

Cars & Transportation? If Michigan has not deregulated electricity (like Texas has) then NO, but then there is a regulation board and you can take your complaints there. If it has, you should know about it because you will be offered dozens of rate plans and buried in TV advertising on the topic.How much does it cost power stations to produce 1 kWh of electricity?
I want to know how much coal fired power stations actually pay to create 1 kWh of electricity, not how much consumers pay which is all I've found out so far. This is because I want to work out the mark-up of prices by electricity companies.
