Question answered by Spuncer
Yes... department stores such as Bloomindale's and Macy's have makeup counters where you can try on makeup, ex. M•A•C or Chanel.
Bring along the color to a makeup counter, those people are professionals and will help you gladly to find the right shade! Of course, the people who work in CVS won't be able to tell you which Revlon eyeshadow to buy. Department store assistance is waay better cuz it does actually exist. So they'll help u ;)
How much money would a department store pay me to carry my fashion line?
I want to be a fashion designer one day, and have my dresses carried in department stores such as nordstrom's, dillards, and barneys new York. What is the price range that they would pay me for my line ?

Question answered by Ryan M
That depends on how popular YOUR line is. It can be a few thousand bucks or several million. However major department stores only carry major lines, so you would need to be successful on your own for YEARS before they will even negotiate with you. Do you have any idea how much production capacity you will need to fulfill a national department store chain??

Michigan Ave. has a web site with all stores listed.
Main department stores are Macy's, Carson's, Nostrums. I think there is a H & M downtown. that is good for young shoppers.
What kind of jobs are available in department stores?
In large department stores - like Bloomingdales, Macy's, Barneys - what kind of jobs do they have available? Do such positions like floor managers exist and also, if two people were working in separate parts of the store (say, beauty and men's clothes), would there be 'higher' positions that they both could compete for and be promoted to?
Not sure if that made any sense, but I'd greatly appreciate some help!

Question answered by Seven
The short answer is yes. In most places there are layers of management on the shop floor that you can be promoted to or work towards.
For example you will have the standard sales staff, then someone who manages a section and the staff within that section, a Section Manager if you will. Then there will be someone who manages a number of sections / areas and is responsible for those that manage the sections as well as the other staff. Usually you then get floor managers or managers of whole areas such as Fashion or Home. Finally there will be the manager of the entire store.
There will also be managers in off the floor areas such as stock room and possibly personnel or administration.
Hope this helps.
What is the best day of the week to shop at department stores?
What is the best day of the week to shop at department stores if I want the best selection of merchandise? My size has always sold out whenever I shop for clothes, so I was wondering if anyone in the retail industry could tell me when most department stores (ex. Kohl's, Target) put out their new items. Is it Sunday when the new sales start?
Thanks!

Question answered by Morgan
Hi! Well first of all, the days stores get their shipments in is different. Like the Target closest to my house get their stuff on saturdays, while a different I also go to get theirs on Mondays. What you want to look for are patterns. If you really want to know, try planning a trip to the store each day for a week. See when their shelves get totally restocked/new shipments come in. That'll be the day! Or you go do a really crazy thing, and ASK. :) I would ask a manager, which can be easily paged from help/info/or returns desks. Hope I helped!

I know that Dillard's and Macy's start you off at $15-$18/hr but they require past experience. I was told by my friend a former Macy's HR manager that the department stores pay more because Macy's will pay you $8.00/hr and Lancome or whoever you would work for would pay you $8.00/hr so your salary ends up being $16.00/hr plus 10%commission. If you were to work for Sephora then you will only make like $8-$10.00/hr because it's a independent company.

just go the local store and speak to store management - find out requirements, then write a business plan to determine if it can be profitable

Question answered by CHA
the good mattress is very important. bed , bath and beyond sells matress pads that are terrific. good pillows for the ones you use and you can use cheap ones for the pillow shams. buy as high a thread count as you can get a good buy on. usually follow the mattress bad are your sheets, blanket and comforter/bedspread. extra flat sheet can be used on top of the blanket, under comforter bedspread. the comforter / bedspread is normally removed at night not used... unless it's down :-) then the temptation is just to great. if you invest in a great down comforter , then i'd be sure to get a duvet cover for it to protect it. you are making me want to go to sleep just typing about this :-)

How to approach department stores to sell my fashion accessories?
hi there,
i've started a line of fine french made neckties. i'm 26, fresh out of college and with a lot of ambition. i'd love for my neckties to be sold in local department stores, but what would be the best way to do that? would i have to call the headquarters, or simply talk to the local store manager?
any suggestions would be more than helpful!

You need to find the men's wear Accessories department buyer. Then make an appointment to see them. The problem is depending on where the headquarter is based, you'll have to go there and see them and show them the goods.
You also need to differentiate your product from others. Don't forget, we can buy a cheap silk tie for US$5 these days outside of the country.
Not only that, you need to work out a price list, cost to customer based on quantity orders (10pcs how much etc). And what is the RCP (recommended consumer price, so the buyer can view the margins). You also need to show your packaging... ties are not just sold as hanging bits.... Once the customer picks it up, it is usually packed in a box with the brand's logo etc because quite a lot of ties are sold as gifts.
