Need help finding a company or supplier?

How much does a roofing or concrete contractor usually make?

I want to learn a trade and then start my own business. How much can an independent roofing or concrete contractor make? Based on having only one or two crews...

Jason

Question answered by Reaganomics101

Concrete foundations and flatwork - if you get on with a good builder in the right area (Texas right now) you could easily make more than a doctor or lawyer - not with only two crews though. With two crews of 3-5 people doing only flatwork(setup) and subcontracting the pour and finish with steady work, you could make a lot more than you think you can, and if you play your cards right eventually you have 8-10 crews doing foundations and then you will never think about having another job. Being your own boss(if you have the right mentality is amazing). My wife is in the medical field and I do concrete contracting and even if I had a doctorate in medical I would 99% sure stay with concrete and seeing the things that I do be created. Doctors might have more stability but in construction when its good - its great and when its bad - it horrible, but if you save your money and not spend all of it when you get a huge influx you and your company will stay pretty even keel. Good luck

Is concrete at 2500 psi adequate for garage floor & driveway?

I got a quote from a concrete contractor who is proposing to pour 2500 psi concrete to form my garage floor and driveway (about 1,000 sq. ft. total combined area). My question, is 2500 psi strong enough or should I request a stronger grade? They're planning to add rebar for added strength. The quotes were based on 4" thickness (seems to be the typical for So. Calif.) just parking two sedans, no extra heavy vehicle types. garage floor is 21' x 20', and driveway is 21' x 30'. I received quotes ranging from $6 to $8. so 2,500 psi is adequate?

Question answered by Turnhog

In Texas, we specify 3,000 psi concrete for residential driveways and slabs. The typical thickness is 4 inches unless the homeowner wants something thicker. The cost between 2,500 & 3,000 concrete should be minimal since the design mix is only altered by some additional cement to the mixture.

Who are the main players in the Chicago ready mix concrete industry in terms of the supply chain?

I am doing market research about the ready mix concrete industry and was hoping that you could provide me with information or point me the right direction. I'm trying to determine main players in the Chicago ready mix concrete supply chain (concrete suppliers, RMC producers, concrete contractors, architects and engineers, and developers). I have many questions in general about the industry and I am trying to find out the market opportunity for a new technology that reduces the overall cost of cement.

Question answered by Dustoff

Pat L ". . . technology that reduces the overall cost of cement." Cement is mined and is a component of concrete. There is no cement mining in Chicago. Concrete is slurry mixture of water, aggregate, sand and cement. For those who are part of the concrete industry in Chicago I suggest you begin narrowing your search with the use of the Yellow Pages. Of the two, which are you seeking information as you refer to both in your narrative?

I had some concrete splatter on my car. I got most of it off with a pressure washer. But not all. Be careful with what chemicals you use on the paint.

How much does it cost to get a stamped concrete patio (about 10' X 15')?

I am thinking about calling a concrete contractor but I would like to know some ballpark figures of how much a stamped concrete patio runs. Thanks

Wayne W

Question answered by sook me wood

10 x 15 x 4" will run you about $5,000.00 to $6,000.00 between the contractor, his illegal work crew and the trucking for the concrete

What evidence do I need to sue the contractor?

I hired a concrete contractor to install a walkway from the parking lot to my building entrance. After 3 months, I noticed the walkway was cracking, pocking and crumbling. The contractor will not do anything about it so I plan on suing him. What kind of evidence can I bring to stengthen my case?

how can i remove masking tape from an acid stained concrete floor? tried goo gone.?

masking tape was used to hold down paper to protect the floor while construction was finished. the residue is literally baked on. goo gone and charcoal lighter fluid did not even soften it. i am a concrete contractor who is clueless what to try next without damaging the floor. my material supplier had no more suggestions either.

Question answered by RKN

Hi- I had acid-stained concrete floors in my last home - they were awesome! But, my 3- or 4-yr. old son thought that he would repair the surface cracks in the foundation with blue masking tape. We thought it was cute, until we pulled the tape up and had marks on the floor in the shape of the tape. I, too, thought that this was adhesive residue. It even felt like some residue left over. And I tried goo-gone and some other adhesive removal solutions. Then I got down on the floor for a really, really close look, and realized that what had happened was that the tape actually pulled up little, tiny divits of concrete. So, I was seeing plain concrete show up through the stain, just in little dots, like a pointillism! What I finally did that worked at least short-term was to use a wood-stain pen - the kind you use to spot-treat scratches in wood furniture - and colored over the spots. The concrete accepted the color,at least for a little while, and the color stain I used was a good match. It was not perfect, but it was far less noticeable than those marks. If you are a contractor, and have access to the stain color used, maybe try spot-treating it with the stain again. The cement should react to the acid just like it did during the original stain job. Good luck!
