hi,
First of all let me tell you one thing that before microsoft there was very little scope for personal computers and softwares related to those computers. Still there were some softwares and software building programming languages. FORTRAN or formula translation, the first high level programming language, was invented by John Backus for IBM, in 1954, and released commercially, in 1957. It is still used today for programming scientific and mathematical applications. Fortran began as a digital code interpreter for the IBM 701 and was originally named Speedcoding. John Backus wanted a programming language closer to human language, which is the definition of a high level language.
At that time the softwares available were Aldus Pagemaker, Trillian, Wordstar, Computer Chess, VisiCalc Spreadsheet. WordStar - The First Word Processor Released in 1979 by Micropro International, WordStar was the first commercially successful word processing software program produced for microcomputers and the best selling software program of the early eighties. first desktop publishing program was created by Paul Brainard and a company called Aldus, the program called "Aldus Pagemaker 1.0" was released in July, 1985 for the "Macintosh" and in December, 1986, for the "IBM". If you go with the history of operating system than previously there was nothing except UNIX.
How many computers can we expect to be tested before a faulty computer is found?
A factory makes computers, and is known to produce computers that have a probability of 0.03 of being faulty. How many computers can we expect to be tested before a faulty computer is found? (Round to the nearest 0.001)

I am quite sure that computers don't have decimals. Or do you know what 1.421 computers look like?
The answer, unless you mistook 0.03 % for 0.03, is 33 computers. (1/0.03)
How do you make it impossible for anyone to do anything they should not do on all computers and the internet?

hi sean, sorry but your question does not make much sence. if you were to ask how do you make it impossible to make it impossible to do anything they should not do on my computer then we can answer your question but when you ask a question like the way that you asked it there is no answer. it is like asking why do people break the law or why do the oil companies realize that they have made too much money. the best thing that you should concentrate on your computer and ask a question that is worth answering to. good luck hope i have been helpful to you
How i conect 5 computers to one main computer with vista home?
I have 5 computers with vista or can be XP and i want to conect a main computer to all to have control conecting to internet and printing. how can i do this?

Question answered by johntrottier
I would not use a computer to control the network. Use a router - that's what it is designed to do.
As far as printing, you can use a network print server or just share printers connected to the computers on the network
How to connect to computers at the mother board to make a very fast computer?
I have 2 relatively new computers and i have no use for them and i was wondering if it was possible to connect them at the motherboard to make a really fast computer.

I'm a network engineer with 30 years of experience. The answer is YES. There are parts called blade servers that are designed in this way, but in your case, you are going to have to do it at the software level. Back when Windows NT first came out was a project called CONDOR, which was designed to share resources amoung networked computers.
The SETI project also has a screen saver that people can load on their computers that helps them calculate the search for signals from other worlds. This SETI program uses your CPU/Memory power and combines it with others from around the world. You can do the same thing with your OS, but first you are going to have to start with lots of research. The types of hardware you have, CPU, Memory, Mobo, etc. etc. Then get yourself the correct version of windows to support it. I'm afraid I can't give you more information without those details. But I think I gave you enough to get started.
Good luck
How do Quantum computers work and do you think in 50 years we will have Quantum computers?
What is holding back Quantum computers ?When do you think we will have Quantum computers ?

'A classical computer has a memory made up of bits, where each bit represents either a one or a zero. A quantum computer maintains a sequence of qubits. A single qubit can represent a one, a zero, or, crucially, any quantum superposition of these; moreover, a pair of qubits can be in any quantum superposition of 4 states, and three qubits in any superposition of 8. In general a quantum computer with n qubits can be in an arbitrary superposition of up to 2^n different states simultaneously (this compares to a normal computer that can only be in one of these 2^n states at any one time). A quantum computer operates by manipulating those qubits with a fixed sequence of quantum logic gates. The sequence of gates to be applied is called a quantum algorithm.'
It is the simultaneous manipulation of these 2^n qubits of data that accounts for the tremendous
advantage in efficiency that a quantum computer would represent. The most difficult algorithms
could be solved almost instantaneously, rather than in the time consuming linear method used by
current digital computers.
Will we have workable quantum computers within 50 years? Not a chance.
While researchers have indeed already succeeded in manipulating individual qubits in order to
demonstrate basic principles, they are still stuck in the very preliminary stages of development.
In order to produce a real, practical quantum computer, they will first have to find a way to get
around some of the basic limitations posed by quantum mechanics and uncertainty. In other words,
they need to find a way to 'fool' nature into letting us take advantage of the superposition of quantum states and extract information from them, without affecting those same states. Something
which will not be easy, and which we currently have no idea how to accomplish except in the most
elementary way. Nonetheless, some of the best minds are currently working on this very subject as
the development of a workable quantum computer would put the owner at a tremendous technological advantage.

Of course with the use of fractured light and crystals.
What computers and/or parts are needed for good quality video?
I would like to start recording videos on a computer and uploading them to YouTube. Should I buy or build my computer and what computers/parts are best for recording gaming videos without things like lag?

Here's a quick way of solving that! www.alienware.com
They do custom computers - you can select your own hardware, from processors to GPU's to wireless cards.
If you don't want to go with them, go for at computer with an Intel i5 core (i3 if that's too expensive), and a Nvidia GPU.
Can virus attacks computers by sharing a printer?
Can virus attacks computers by sharing a printer?

How do you connect two computers to the same monitor?
I need to connect two computers to one monitor, and also connect one mouse and one keyboard to two computers.
Is there a way to do this?

Question answered by Thomas T
Many of your respondents are correct: you need a KVM switch. I use one that allows me to work on 8 different computers with one keyboard, one mouse and one monitor. I use it to load software on multiple machines, etc. On purchasing such a device make sure you get compatible ports and cables. ie if you want to use VGA to your monitor get VGA and not DVI and vice versa. Some support USB mice and not PS2. And some of the cheaper KVM's don't support high monitor resolutions like 1600x1200 so check that out too. And make sure either cables are included or you buy the correct cables.I even have one that I use two computers on that use dual monitors. Very cool! I got mine at http://www.newegg.com. Good luck.
