What is the difference between iCATS and immobilizer system for car security ?

What is the difference between iCATS and immobilizer system for car security ?

Pradeep

Question answered by Mike B

iCATS will not allow the engine to start until the correct digital codes from the key is received by the ECU. System is for the most part tamper-proof. Most immobilizer systems simply cut power to one or more needed item for the engine to start, but a good theif will know how to defeat these measures.

What kind of metal is used in "The Club" car security device?

I have a friendly bet with someone that "The Club" car security device is made of cobalt. Can someone please definitively tell me what metal is used in "The Club." Thank you.

Question answered by

All of The Club models are made with Cro-Moly steel, as is listed on their official page. Cro-moly steel is considered to be one of the strongest steel alloys; it is used in the club so that people can't use a hacksaw to get through it. Of course, that doesn't prevent them from sawing through the steering wheel, but there isn't much we can do about that! From wikipedia: Chromoly is a range of low alloy steels used, for example, to produce tubing for bicycle frames and race-car roll cages. It is not as lightweight as aluminum alloys, but has the advantages of high tensile strength and malleability. It is also easily welded and is considerably stronger and more durable than standard (1020) steel tubing. Sorry that it's not cobalt!

Where to find a Car Security Camera alarm?

I have been searching for a car security alarm that takes pictures all around my car when someone kicks it or wrecks into my car. I have found some but it was only one camera and I don't see how one camera can get the whole view of the car front and back. I could really use some help in locating a great security camera that's easy to install and takes pictures for me. Thanks!

I was in the same position you are in. I have basic mechanic skills so I thought that I could do it since I had the manuals. I opened up my dash and I got immediately discouraged. There are so many wires running in there that the chance of hooking up the wrong wire is pretty good. Even with manuals, I didn't think I could do it anymore, I just forgot about it. But the good thing is that if you bought the system at a Best Buy, the installation is included in the price. They installed it for me for the price of the system. I bought the Viper model 3002 2 way system from their website, they shipped it to my house, I took it to their store and 3 hours later, it was installed and worked perfectly.

My friend. :) Go with Viper Alarm System, With dual stage shock sensor. That shock sensor will keep ur car from anything happening to it, i.e. window shatter, wheels getting bumped, door gets bumped, anything. But their pricey but u get good quality. I got a cheap one, a Carbine Alarm System, for 160 proffesionally installed. Came with Kill start, and Shock Sensor, and alarm and unlock and lock. You pick buddy.

Clifford or Toad are good systems but to be sensitive enough to sense someone messing with your fog lights and it would be going off every 5 minutes. Wheel locking bolts/nuts and security screws would be a better and cheaper option as it is rare for thieves to target just parts. They would rather take the whole car and strip it down in private. As built in immobilisers require the thief to steal the keys to get the car an after market alarm is not required.

I think car alarms do proctect your car. Get an alarm with ignition shutoff switch. You might want to get a VIPER alarm system. Viper i believe is best in the market for car alarms.

2000 camaro security system proper key but wont start how to fix?

I have a 2000 v6 camaro i go to start the car security light comes on car wont start till light goes off (3 mins) now after 2 weeks it wont start at all and i do have the proper key? Any one know how to fix this?

Question answered by MasTec 1970

Yes you need to replace the ignition lock cylinder (passlock sensor) What happens is the passlock wires in the ignition switch are very thin and brittle and after so much turning of the lock cylinder they eventually break off and don't send a fuel enable message to the BCM. This Theft deterrent system uses a resistor in the key and contacts in the lock cylinder to connect to the BCM. The resistance is a specific value range, 1 of 15 different resistance pellets. The BCM will only recognize the resistance if it is seen the first time it was connected and the key turned to on.

Can I upgrade my car alarm system to have my remote activate my door locks?

I recently bought a car security system by Viper, and it was an option to make the security remote lock and unlock the cars doors. At the moment I sort of made an impulse decision to not get it because it was like 40 dollars extra, but now that it's all been installed I realize I need it. Anybody know?

Question answered by airforceyooper

Yes you can. I'm an authorized Viper dealer. Why would I get a thumbs down for telling you you can add door locks to your alarm? If you don't have power locks, you can have actuators put in the doors and still have power locks. And it may or may not be as easy as just connecting a wire or two. There are several cars these days that requires extra relays and sometimes even an entirely separate module to communicate with the car to enable the locks to work with the alarm. In any case, it is certainly doable.
