Local Car Dealers - Used

Ask the community

Need help finding a company or supplier?

do car dealers use conventional or synthetic oil when doing oil changes?

Do car dealers use recycled oil?

.

Question answered by Country Boy

Car dealers absolutely don't use recycled oil. Unless you ask for full synthetic oil or your car came from the factory with it, new car dealers use non synthetic oil. You can save money on a full synthetic oil change by purchasing the oil at Walmart and hiring the dealer to drain the old used oil, change the filter and dump-in the new oil. During the Winter when my back wasn't in good shape I carted in my own Mobil1 and an AC-Delco PF-52 oil filter for an oil change in my Pontiac. The local Chevrolet dealer charged me $13.43 to change the oil and filter. They were even nice enough to fill the filter with new oil before installing it which prevents dry starts.

Someone bought a car using my Name and Social?

Hi, Someone (with the help of a car dealer) used my name and social security to get a car loan in California. I have been out of the country for 4 years and only found out about the car after parking ticket notices showed up at my previous address. I want to go to that dealer and secretly record our conversation regarding that car and then report him to police. Can they arrest him 4 1/2 years after he committed the fraud?

RIZZO

Question answered by meg_an_728

Rizzo: First off, how do you know the dealership participated in any number of crimes? Going to the dealership and attempting to gain inofrmation could damage your chances of having them prosecuted IF they were involved in the fraud. The first thing you do is file a police report. If possible go to the LE agency where the car was purchased as they have the jurisdiction. Go in person and take your passport so you can prove when you were in and out of country. IF you aren't close, then go to your constabulary and start there. You can also call the FBI. They may or may not get involved, but the fact you were not in country sheds a new diminsion on the crime and jurisdiction. Next, with a copy of the police report, contact all the major credit reporting agencies in writing explaining what happened and also send them a copy of the police report. In a separate letter request a print out of all the activity on your credit reports. You are entitled to 1 free copy a year, but considering the fact you are a victim of identity theft, they usually will supply you a free credit report anyway. In the meantime, you can check with the DMV for registration. The car is after all in your name and your social. Tell them you need a duplicate for a lost registration. The registration should have the signature of the alleged registered owner. That signature should in no manner be your's even if it vaguely resembles yours. A good graphologist can take care of that post haste. Take any document they may (or may not) give to the police dept. after making several copies for your file. Make copies of the parking tickets and then give the notices you have received to the police investigator. Contact the city where these tickets have been issued and inform them of the situation immediately. Here is why, depending on where you live, you can be arrested for unpaid parking tickets IF a bench warrant has been issued. Now if you live a great distance away, most depts. won't pay to have you extradicted back to the jurisdiction because of parking tickets. It is very costly to do that. They will just wait until you happen to be in their local. The parking tickets should have valuable information on them....like an address of this colossal ******* who stole your identity. Within the crime of identity theft.....there are other crimes such as forgery, perjury, contract fraud, IF the dealership is involved...add conspiracy as it takes 2 or more people to commit conspiracy. ALL felonies. The statue of limitations is still good as you have just recently discovered the crime. However, do not dally in filing a police report so an investigation can commence. In fact, request to speak to the investigative dept. straight away instead of merely filing a report with a patrol/desk officer. Whatever you do, do NOT make contact with the person who purchased this vehicle. You do nothing that could taint an investigation. And....you don't want to tip them off. Plus, you don't know what the person(s) are capable of when they are found out. I too have been the victim of identity theft to the tune of almost $60,000 by an illegal residing in CA. I live half way across the country. These crimes are becomng more rampant and insideous. Any lesgilature who advocates amnesty, gets my rath and I ardently work to get them out of office. If it the perp is a citizen, I expect the courts to put them behind bars for a good many years. Enough is enough! Rizzo.....I wish you success in nailing the person who did this. It is a horrible crime that can ruin a victim's life. God speed..............:)

Is there a database that car dealers use to research car sales by area?

I recently opened a used car dealership and looking for a way to know what used cars are the best selling in my area. Is there a database that dealers use to research car sales data by area? I am going to start buying cars from the dealer auction but want to make sure the cars I buy will sell.

=== what area are you in at ?? the cars that sell the best anywhere are the ones that are clean inside and outside and have low mileage --- it is impossible to predict the buying public or what car they want to buy == aim yourself at the 1st time buyers or the college students or the 40's somethings and what ever you do BE AN HONEST CAR DEALER .... you find that hard to do as most dealers have been known to stretch it a bit ...... you will have more biz if you are honest with the buyer ...

What website does car dealers used to get the book value of a car?

A friend of mine is trading her car and she did a Kelly Blue Book on her car and got the value but when she went to the dealer they told her they don't use KBB and that they used a different system. They appraised her car at a lower value than KBB and now I'm wondering what appraisal website do they use because KBB gave my friend a higher appraisal than the site that the dealer uses.

Question answered by Mad Jack

The dealers use a subscription based dealer only website called Manheim. This website lists what similar cars are currently selling for at the dealer only auctions in their area. When a dealer is taking your car in on trade they are essentially buying this car from you. They won't give you much more for it than what they would pay for a similar car at auction. If you feel that the dealer is not giving you a fair price you can always sell this car yourself. You won't have access to Manheim to price your car. You will need to use the public websites. Edmunds Kelly Blue Book NADA Guide It also helps to see what cars similar to your are selling for in your local area. If your car is priced higher than similar cars in your area guess which ones potential buyers will look at first? The classified section of your local newspaper can be helpful. When evaluating condition of your car you are better off if you are brutally honest with yourself. It is very easy to state that your baby is in better condition than it actually is. Potential buyers will quickly spot this ans simply move on. Price the car fairly and it will sell. One last piece of friendly advice. Post the price in any advertisements and on your for sale sign. Avoid using "Or Best Offer". Buyers prefer that you are up front with the price. If you are evasive with your price they may not even give your car a look.

The total interest paid for my car that I came up with is less than what my dealer is charging. How?

What's the formula for calculating interest that the car dealers use? The one I use in Excel is =(pmt(rte per period,# of pmts, total loan amount,0,0))*-1, and at an 8.99% interest rate, how do you come up with $7111.51 at a 72 mnth term?

Question answered by Google It!

Whether or not the dealer is "getting a cut" of the financing or tax, title & license fees are there, this should all be included in the financing.. Unless you are calculating just the car price without the extra taxes and fees.. Perhaps Excel is calculating interest a little differently, because auto dealers calculate interest so that the payments are constant.. Not sure what Excel is doing. Check out bankrate.com they have good auto and other loan calculators.

Since you failed to state the amount of the loan, it is fair to guess you are not putting the proper numbers in the correct place in the formula. I recommend ANY online loan calculator.

Used car dealers: is Manheim the more expensive auction to purchase from?

I'm a few weeks away from opening my first used car business within Canada, however Manheim is an international used vehicle auction. I was wondering if it is also considered one of the cheapest auctions for purchasing vehicles. I have access to their website and I am overlooking the sale prices of the vehicles and the vehicles are more expensive than I originally anticipated. So, if there are any used car dealers here: do you find Manheim as being a cheaper auction to buy from within your area?

Question answered by

Big auctions like Manheim & Adesa and known as "retail" auctions because cars bring so much when there are competitive bidders. (Even though they are supposedly "dealer only" auctions) You will see lots of retail buyers at most sales. They pay dealers to bring them.Complete with their "edmunds used car price guide" direct from the bookstore. Smart dealers SELL at the big auctions and buy directly from new car dealers and/or much smaller dealer auctions. Unless you know what you are doing, you are likely to overpay anywhere you buy for the first 6 months or so. Your first few years actually, if you last, you will look back & laugh at how little you knew. Just because you got a license and have a lot doesn't mean you are "ready". You have a whole lot of expensive eduction ahead of you. That doesn't mean you wont make money, its just you will make far less than if you were a much better buyer. I used to go to 3-4 auctions a week, even when I had no intention of buying anything. That's how you KNOW a bargain when you might see one.

Is there any used car dealer buying old model car in Toronto?

I am trying to sell my 91 Toyota 4runner, which is in running condition with 197000 km on it. I called 3 used car dealers. They just did not want to take it. If you know any dealer buying old cars, please let me know. Thank you.

You will only sell it to a dealer who has a customer looking for it. You are better off to sell it yourself, if a dealer takes it you won't get much.

What advantages do used car dealers have when they sell a car as owner?

Why would a used car dealer or anyone that sells multiple cars hide the fact that they have other cars for sale? Most of the ads of cars for sale are too good to be true and I stay away from them but what do they hide by showing they are for sale by owner? I have used Craig's List to find a used car and some deals are too good to be true and I hate to see young folks buy these reconditioned cars that CARFAX can't list because of the laws in 29 of the 50 states not making it mandatory to list wrecked or totaled cars.

Question answered by STEWIE

Because "curbstoners" as they are called want to avoid paying taxes; avoid paying for a license (required if you sell over a certain number a year); avoid laws such as inspecting cars to make sure they are roadworthy; etc. Most of the unbelievable deals on Craigslist are not from curbstoners but from con-artists. Most of these cars do not exist at all. They just convince unsuspecting buyers to send them cash through Western Union and of course they dissapear.
