What should I expect on my first visit to a fertility specialist?
I am finally seeing a fertility specialist after 2 years of trying to get pregnant. What should I expect them to do and what kinds of questions should I ask?
seriously:)
Question answered by Tina has Twins
They will be asking you a lot of questions - your medical history, that of your partner, your family history, review any testing that you have done, etc . . .
They will probably schedule testing for you both including FSH to check your follicle stimulating hormone, TSH to check thryroid function, progesterone to check for ovulation, hsg to check that your tubes are not blocked and a semen analysis for your partner. These tests are often scheduled for certain cycle days so be sure to bring a calendar with you.
As to questions, I would discuss things like the fertility clinic hours - our had early morning hours which made it easier for ultrasounds and bloodwork to be scheduled before work, they were open 7 days a week so they were available on the weekend if my body was ready for a treatment etc . . . I would also ask about their philosophy and success rates. Our RE liked to minimize the chance of multiples (no octuplets for us) which was good with us.
Good luck and loads of baby dust!

When you tried to conceive did you simply just stop birth control?
I track on a calendar when I ovulate but other than that don't do any temperature taking or whatever else there is to do. We've done this for a year.

Question answered by HooKooDooKu
Attempting to get pregnant the way you've described results in about 80% percent of couples getting pregnant within a year.
Since you've failed to get pregnant after a year, there is a possiblility that you are one of the 10% of couples with fertility issues.
At a minimum, I would suggest you read a copy of the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" so that you can learn to maximize your potential for getting pregnant.
In the mean time, since you've failed after trying for a year, it's time to at least begin the process of looking for a possible medical explination. For the best medical care, you should seek out a Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist (the true fertility specialist). If you have friends or family that can recommend one of these fertility specalist, that's the place to start. In the mean time, any urologist can get a semen analysis done on your husband, and your ob/gyn can do a few tests himself to check for obvious things like blocked tubes.
What type of paper do you use for making a poster?
I'm working on a 1 page calendar and I wanted to print it out but don't know what type paper is it, the ones you use for posters, flyers etc... the thick, glossy one, and where can I buy them?
DrewD
Question answered by k -
The type of paper used for these posters entirely depends on the effect that you are wishing to achieve.
Glossier paper tends to produce brighter colour results because the ink sits on the surface of the paper and does not penetrate the surface like on uncoated stock, which can lighten the results.
Types of coated and glossy paper include: silk, gloss and satin. I tend to use silk or satin for my projects as high gloss can be a bit over the top so to speak. You can visit your local reprographics centre and they can advise you. You can also probably get hold of different paper types at art / graphics stores or office specialists like Staples.
doing intercourse daily or on alternative days which is better to get pregnant?
my girl friend's period is 17th of april 2009.
the most fertile days as per fertility calendar are 26-30.
pl advice is it better to do intercourse on all days between 26 to 30 or

Question answered by seeitmiway32
The fertility calendar won't work for you. The ovulating temperature method might. Of course, you can always just have intercourse twice a day from one period to the other; that night work.
You and your partner may need to see a fertility specialist
First time using opk's, when do I start using them?
I had a period on Feb. 1 thru 5th. I went to a fertility specialist today and he put me on clomid starting today. He said to consider today as the third day of my cycle. So when do I start using the opk's? He did a vaginal ultrasound and could tell I was not ovulating that is why he started the clomid today. When do you suggest I start using them?
Do I use them in the morning or night?
seriously:)
Question answered by tina_kel
Luteinizing hormone (or LH) in elevated quantities causes ovulation (the release of the egg - or ovum - from the ovarian follicle). During the menstrual cycle only a small amount of LH is made, but in the middle of the cycle LH briefly and dramatically increases. This increase is called the "LH surge" and precedes ovulation. Conception is most likely to occur within thirty-six hours following the LH surge. The LH Ovulation Test is specifically designed to detect your LH surge - the time when you are likely to ovulate. If you receive a positive on an lh test, you are in your most fertile phase of your menstrual cycle.
SPECIMEN COLLECTION AND PREPARATION
COLLECTION
Collect urine once per day, at about the same time between 10:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. Do not use first morning urine as a sample. Collect urine in a clean, dry cup or container.
The sample may be stored at room temperature (15º-28ºC) for up to eight hours, or in the refrigerator for up to twenty-four hours. Do not freeze the urine sample. Let refrigerated samples reach room temperature before starting the test (this will take about 30 minutes). For best results, test the urine on the same day it is collected.
TEST PROCEDURE
STEP 1: WHEN TO START TESTING: Determine the length of the menstrual cycle. The length of the menstrual cycle is the number of days from the first day of menstrual bleeding to the day before bleeding begins on the next period.
Determine the usual length of the menstrual cycle over the last few months. Then, refer to the Ovulation Calendar Cycle Chart below to determine on which day of the menstrual cycle to begin testing

I miss my credit card payments all the time because I just always forget about them- any ideas how not to?
I have a terrible memory (adhd) and always forget credit card payments even though I have the money in the bank to pay them, getting hit with 40, 50, 60+ dollar charges on a very regular basis.
I tried to set up dates in my calendar to always pay, but then I ended up making either double payments or still forgetting. Does anyone have any ideas of ways to help remember something like this?

I would suggest hiring the service of an accountants office. This isn't an area that you can "afford" to have mistakes/delays, and since you are having to shell out extra cash each month, better it goes toward something that will help protect your credit rating and good standing. "Vyvanse" is a stimulant medication that has been approved for adult adhd and has much less side effects than other stimulant medicines. It has also been formulated to only be effective once it hits a stage of absorption thus rendering it useless to anyone who might think to abuse a stimulant ,(if that is a thought or concern). Stimulant medicines should be used with some sort of behavioral training so that you can learn strategies to organize your life and minimize clutter to optimize your ability to be focused & effective & not always be scrambling to make up for forgotten or delayed tasks that then multiply and cause even MORE stress which leads to more disorganization.......on & on. I hope you can get started with the accountant/book keeper right away & relieve yourself of this worrying issue, & relax knowing your $ & credit are safe. The next important step is finding a mental health &/or medical professional to prescribe you a trial of the medicine ( it is one you should know right away if there is any benefit, though there are different doses & it may take trying the lowest dose then moving up until you know what is best for you) along with helping you build a suppourt team, consisting of a counselor as well as a specialist in organizational/behavioral training that can help you set up systems to maximize your chances of becoming & staying organized, and thus having reduced anxiety, stress & worry and instead have feelings of success and accomplishment that comes with keeping up on your tasks and starting and COMPLETING work. Good luck, it IS possible to work through this if you reach out for help.
How long did it take you to get pregnant, and did you use any extra ideas?
Like ovulation calendars, and so on.

It took us almost 8 years. After 3 years of trying, we spoke to our doctor about it, and he sent us to specialists. She was found to have a hormone imbalance, and I had an unusually low sperm count. She underwent hormone therapy and began taking fertility drugs. I had to have surgery twice. Finally, after giving up hope, we learned that she was pregnant. I was one month shy of 33 years old when my miracle daughter was born. Sadly, the marriage didn't last, but my daughter, who is now 17, is more precious to me than life itself.
