What Do i need to do set up my own money transfer business like western union?
I have been wanting to set up my own business in money transfer, but i do not know how to go about doing it any help would be appreciated? thank you

Question answered by sinovantage
To establish such a business, there is a model to follow:
-First check out if you are even allowed to set up such a business. The financial industry is usually highly restricted.
-Have enough financing to establish a network of agents in the places you plan to cover, and to do the initial marketing.
-Have something special, a new skill, an innovation not yet discovered by Western Union, Moneygram and the others.
-Write a business plan, build the financial forecasts, register the company and get into the business.
If you have the managerial abilities and are able to get it going, it would be much easier later to get venture capital or other funding to increase your coverage. In your case, you can start small, with two cities or locations, and plan something from there.
Hope it helps.

Pick a visa
There are basically NINE ways that you can get a visa to live and work in the US:
(1) Marriage (or engagement in anticipation of marriage) to a US citizen.
(2) You have skills that are in short supply in the US e.g. scientific or medical training. A degree is normally a must. Or you have superior specialist skills with at least 12 years experience. (H visas)
(3) You have an Employer who is willing to transfer you - but even the employer has to make a good case for you - so you have to be a manager unless you fall under category (2) above.(L visas)
(4) You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery (UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship.
(5)You own or buy business (does not get you permanent resident status i.e. no green card)You must be a national of a qualifying Treaty countries. The business must have a minimum value of around $150k (more the better) bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any startup business you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $350k would be a nearer minimum (E-2 visas)
(6)You are an "investor" i.e. you have at least US $1m in assets to bring with you. half of that in a few areas. And your background will be investigated to the hilt. (EB-5 visas)
(7)You have a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister and no further) who is an US citizen who would sponsor you, approx time this take 2-12 years?
(8.The R1 visa is available to foreign members of religious denominations, having bona fide non-profit religious organizations in the U.S., for entering the U.S. to carry on the activities of a minister or religious worker as a profession, occupation or vocation
(9)THE UNUSUAL You are in a position to claim refugee status/political asylum. or You get a member of Congress to sponsor a private bill with legislation that applies just to you.
The S visa issued to persons who assist US law enforcement to investigate and prosecute crimes and terrorist activities such as money laundering and organized crime
Recruitment agent will not take you seriously if you are not already in the US. Writing for jobs is really a waste of time; likewise US employers have no idea what foreign qualification are or mean (except Degrees) it may pay you to get your qualification translated into a US equivalent, there are Companies that do this (www.wes.org) ..
But if you are getting a visa under (2) above then you need a job offer before you can get the visa. Your Employer will be your sponsor this will cost them upward of $5k. So you can see you have to be offering something really special to get considered They may also have to prove to the Dept of labor that there is no American who can do the job if the position is to be permanent ©
Can You take over a Business that has been shut down by IRS?
I am working for a company that i just found out is ready to have its doors shut due to none payment of fica and sales taxes. Once the doors are shut can i take over this business legally, by getting my own name and tax id number? Actually its starting my own business. But legally can i do this? We have many accounts and employees i want to take with me. Can I legally do this? I feel like Jerry McGuire.

Question answered by wartz
You are welcome to start whatever business you want. If it wants to sell its assets to you can buy them with IRS blessing provided you pay a fair price. The type of business may require a bulk transfer and will definitely require an application for discharge of the tax lien from the assets. Don't try to do this by yourself but have professional help to make sure all your ducks are lined up in a row.
I am an enrolled agent, a tax specialist licensed by the US Treasury Department Office of Professional Responsibility (not an IRS employees) to represent taxpayers the same way as attorneys and CPAs and specialize in clients who have substantial outstanding tax liabilities or long periods of failing to file returns. If you would like some additional information about how to handle this outside this forum you can send me email through my profile.
Any suggestions on this tax situation involving a small business? Details below?
The small business here is operating at a loss. The expenses exceed the income and the business is being propped up by loans from the owner's savings. There are deductions for business expenses, but the business runs into the alternative minimum tax and not all of the tax deductible expenses can be deducted. Refunds (partial refunds) are frequently given to customers because they pay a deposit. The entire deposit is deposited when paid and is considered income. Though the partial refunds are "tax deductible" I am concerned because of the low income and high expenses making it impossible to get the full deduction for expenses. Any suggestions for making the best of this situation? Essentially, we sometimes pay tax on money that ends up being refunded to the customer. Thanks.

well, i know a guy who was audited for tax evasion, but ultimately was given a break.
He sells insurance as a broker and his broker fee is not fully earned until the whole insured period has passed. in some cases his clients cancel their policy before the say 12 months are up.
here is what he does and it was accepted by the auditor.
he puts all of his funds into his business account and transfers them out one month at a time into his personal account. anything transferred has been fully earned and thus taxable income.
if a customer cancels a 12 month policy say 6 months into the policy he will refund half of his broker fee (don't ask me why on this one...my agent only refunds unused months, but not any part of the broker fee).
he says those funds in his Business account are not his until he earns them so they cant be taxed as income. He holds them there and if a client cancels they can get their money back. it was never his.
well, he argued this case when he got audited and the auditor agreed!!!
this may be a way of accounting that can help you not get caught by the AMT net.
How do I transfer my mother to a local hospital or treatment center?
She lives in Indiana and wants to come live with me. She's being released from Rush Memorial Hospital in Chicago today and will start chemotherapy for cancer in a week. We are able to arrange what's called a "Mercy Flight" to get her here but I don't know all the logistics of transferring her Medicare/Medicaid and medical records to our state (Arkansas). I don't even know where to start. Can anyone help?

Question answered by Zarnev
First off, Medicaid will not transfer. She must cancel her IL Medicaid and reapply when she gets to AR. She may not qualify for Medicaid in AR, especially if she lives with you. That will depend upon the situation and the caseworker. If she does qualify it can take up to 3 months to get approved. Sometimes and in some states Medicaid will cover retro to the application date but there may be a time period where she doesn't have Medicaid coverage.
Medicare is federal, so you don't need to transfer Medicare but she may need to change her additional coverage. She does need to call Social Security and change her address. After that, she can change her additional coverage if needed. Be sure to change her address first before changing the plan or there may be problems changing plans.
►If she has a Medicare Supplement most likely she doesn't need to change. Most companies will allow the Supplement to transfer, but there will be an adjustment in premium.
►If she has a stand alone Part D prescription drug plan she'll need to get a new plan in AR, even if there is a plan by the same company. She has 2 months after her move to get a new plan.
►If she has a Medicare Advantage plan she'll need to get a new plan in AR. These plans are county specific and in some rural counties you may have trouble finding a good one to get. In most cases, the Medicare Advantage plan also has the Part D drug plan, so in this case she will not have a stand alone Part D plan.
►If she (hopefully) has a cancer plan she just needs to change her address. If you don't have a cancer plan look into one because cancer tends to run in families.
Find out who is her IL insurance agent and, if she likes that person, ask that person if they can do business in AR or if they can refer you to someone who can. If you need to find a new agent be sure to get one that works with all of the major companies in AR. The agent can find the best plan for her, especially since she is going to be going through chemo. The agent will know what she has currently and what she needs to do to change plans. There is no charge using an agent and the agent will be able to take a lot of stress off of you during this trying time.

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'athletes, coaches, umpires, and related workers' or such.
How about talking with a student advisor about your career goals. It sounds like an extremely competitive field so perhaps have a backup plan such as considering minoring in business or such.
With schooling, please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools (course credits may Not transfer either) such as penn foster, strayer, university of phoenix, everest, ITT tech, devry, stratford career, ashworth, kaplan, argosy, sanford brown, walden, ashford, colorado tech, remington and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit': http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

A website in which former college students may post about their experience: http://www.studentsreview.com and can type the college into search and click 'comments' if there are any.
How long does it take to be a real estate agent?
I am asking because I have a 7 month old daughter and I know I need to start doing something with my life here soon! Money is not an option, but what I need to know is if I would like to be a real estate agent what do I need to obtain, how do I go about doing it, and can I survive on this income.

Question answered by bbisdpspec
Different states have different qualifications as to schooling, etc. Illinois used to be 30 hours of training to become a real estate agent and an additional 30 hours of training to become a broker.
Bear in mind that usually, real estate salespeople are paid on a commission basis and there is no dependable salary coming in from that job. You may work weeks or even months before a paycheck comes in. The better at "networking" you are, the better the chances of obtaining listings and potential buyers. This is job for someone with "connections" and be careful, as it is a "dog eat dog" business - since there is no guaranteed paychecks coming in - you'll find out it's amazing what people will do to others in an office, just to make a buck.
I've had other agents sitting across from me ask who I was talking to - when I told them, they called them, right in front of me and made some comment that they heard they might be interested in buying/selling a house and would they like to have them stop by and talk to them about it? Even though I was just on the phone with them.
Agents will go through phone messages of others, looking for potential business - transfer phones to their homes for the after-hours calls that's supposed to come to you.
Your office may have you pay for desk space, sign installation, office supplies, forms, etc, even though you haven't made any money as of yet - they may even put some of that on a "tab" - but that means when you finally do make a paycheck, it'll be reduced! Also, since you'll probably considered an "independent contractor", you'll have to manually figure out income tax deductions from your check(s) and send that in yourself or face penalties and fines from the IRS -
There is money to be made doing this, and after some time with good connections, it can be a decent amount. Just be prepared for a rocky road until you get some time and experience under your belt.
Good Luck!

Canadians in the US: Can I start a business to gain citizenship?
I want to live in Hawaii and was wondering how to get around the 6 month restriction for Canadians in the US. I want to buy property but that's not very useful if I can only be there for half the year. I thought I might use the house for a bed and breakfast, then hire Americans to maintain the business. Is this feasible? I heard that people using business investments to gain citizenship need to invest a million and hire 10 Americans. Is this true? (I'm from cold Canada.)
