How to find a reliable Air Conditioning Company in PHX?
I need to find a reliable air conditioning company in Phx that I can get a reasonable deal with.
Any recommendations?

Question answered by Eddie
Contact your local a/c consulting company. They are an unbiased 3rd party that comes to your house and does all your measurements and assessments for you. Then they get you bids from air conditioning companies and go over them with you to let you know what you really need fixed and what you don’t. That way you don’t have to deal with individual companies coming to your house and trying to upsell you. The consultant I used was free, I guess whatever air conditioning company I choose had to pay them instead of their sales guy.
How do I figure out how to get my landlord to accept a certified letter? He refused delivery of it.?
I moved into a condo that had water damage, because I did not know it until I already accepted the keys and signed the lease. A storm caused water to pour in through the kitchen ceiling onto the stove and into the cabinets above the stove and the microwave.
Also, there was no air conditioning and no hot water initially, but they fixed that within several days.
There was also a gutted, fake smoke detector and also one that would not stop beeping, so I had to call the fire department to help because I could not re-set it.
Lastly, the consultant who represented my landlord declined to provide me with a copy of the move-in inventory upon request. As a result of that, I sent the landlord a certified letter to describe the state of the condo upon move-in.
The landlord declined to receive that letter or pick it up from the post office.
I went to Google street view and it appears he may live in a trailer on a parcel of land 3 hours from here, or in the shack near the trailer.
The lease requires that I send the checks electronically to a bank account, so I have done that and this is the first time I've tried to mail him something.
It took him 4 months to send someone to look at the roof that had leaked and about a month to send someone to fix the smoke detectors.
I tried to research him online and found out that he has an alias, or at least in the past used a different middle name.
I am interviewing for jobs in another state, and it is possible that I may end up moving out at the 6 month point of the year-long lease, having to mitigate his damages by finding a new tenant, etc.
I definitely expect without this move-in inventory that he will keep the deposit no matter what.
But I guess my question is, how do I make sure he gets this letter, which an attorney advised me to send to him when he refuses to accept the letter??
Can I hire a process server to serve him with a letter??
What should I do at this point?
Things keep breaking (like little things) like the dryer, the toilet, the stove burner, and I just let him know this. The lease says he does not have to replace the dryer. I am just sticking my hand in the toilet tank to flush it every time. I can only use two stove burners, etc.

Question answered by nascar88gyrl
You cannot force a person to accept a certified letter. The letter can be refused, or can go unclaimed at the PO. The PO will return the letter to you if it is refused or unclaimed.
You may have to hire a process server. Contact your attorney to see what he/she advises you to do.

EARTH DAY POEM
by Jane Yolen
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.
Each blade of grass,
Each honey tree,
Each bit of mud,
And stick and stone
Is blood and muscle,
Skin and bone.
And just as I
Need every bit
Of me to make
My body fit,
So Earth needs
Grass and stone and tree
And things that grow here
Naturally.
That's why we
Celebrate this day.
That's why across
The world we say:
As long as life,
As dear, as free,
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.

Conserve energy. Use less energy and use it wisely.
Compact Fluorescent bulbs are an efficient lighting source within the house. Fluorescent adapter bulbs are available, conserving energy by using less wattage to create the same brightness as incandescent bulbs. They last longer as well, which will also save you money.
Adjust settings on water heaters and air conditions to conserve energy.
Don't let faucet taps leak or drip water. A running faucet uses 3-5 gallons a minute. Consider this: Brushing teeth: wet and rinse your brush, this will use 1/2 gallon, saving 9 gallons wasted if you let the tap run. Shaving: fill basin, will use 1 gallon instead of 14. Washing dishes: fill basin, will use 5 gallons, saving 25. To really get an idea how much water is wasted - fill up a 5 gallon jug with a pump and use all of your water from there to see just how far it goes. You can really make that 5 gallons of water last if you are not simply running it down the drain. Better yet, carry that 5 gallon jug from a spring and you will really learn to appreciate the value of every drop of water!
Put lids on pots to avoid heat waste and help water boil faster.
Use small pots on small burners, large on large for efficiency.
Use cool / cold water when possible.
Keep drinking water in refrigerator to avoid running the tap to get it cold (it tastes better too).
Water plants with leftover drinking water or from washing veggies (vitamins are good for the plants). Save a container to collect misc. water and see how fast it adds up.
Use rechargeable batteries.

Need help answering questions about becoming a pilot..?
I was hoping you could answer several of my questions because I am aspiring to be a pilot. First are my medical concerns; i do not have perfect vision, in fact, I have 20/30 vision in the left and 20/20 in the right. Would this prevent me from becoming a commercial or airline transport pilot? Would glasses fix this? My second question is that I have sort of low blood pressure, because of this I often get blurry or pixilated vision when I get up too quickly and I've only fainted once in my life due to this. I believe the condition is know as Postural Hypotension. Would this prevent me from becoming a pilot? Those are my main concerns. My other questions are much less worrisome to me, but I am still curious. If I am planning on majoring in Airline /Commercial /Professional Pilot, is there a way to complete this through Navy or Air Force ROTC in college? Lastly, how long does it take to become a commercial pilot for an airline?
Thank You again for your help!
Jake
Question answered by Zaphod_Beeblebrox
Q1: Your vision won't be a problem but you may need glasses or contacts
Q2: Yes, this could prevent you from obtaining a medical certificate. The medical questionnaire asks if you've ever fainted or experienced blurred vision. If you answer truthfully, it could be the end of your dream right there. The only intelligent thing to do would be get advice from an aviation medical consultant prior to taking an airman's medical exam.
Q3: Many aviation colleges have ROTC programs. I do not recommend getting a professional pilot type of degree because they are expensive, they don't give you an edge when it comes to applying for an airline, and they won't employ you profitably if you cannot fly for some reason, such as medical problems. A waste of a college education in my opinion. Get a real college degree you can fall back on if you need to.
Q4'; the average age of pilots hired by the major airlines is 32 to 36 years old. Virtually none are hired under age 30. The average age of pilots hired by regional airlines is 24 to 26. The average pilot spends 5 to 10 years building experience in the regional airlines before being accepted by the major airlines. The exception is ex-military pilots who have already put in 10-12 years flying complex, high-performance turbine-powered aircraft.
How do I get mold out of the grout in my shower?
When we purchased our home I noticed mold in the shower. I have tried everything, scrubbing bubbles, Tilex, bleach, etc. Nothing seems to work. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Mom of E and S and 38 weeks with # 3
Question answered by solutionsiec
Depends on the material you are cleaning. If it is a non-porous surface then cleaning it with a tub and tile cleaner or 10% bleach solution will help clean the surface of mold growth. The key to keeping it gone is controlling moisture. Make sure that while the tub/shower is in use you ventilate the bathroom by running the exhaust fan. When done, leave the fan running until the room is dry. You can purchase a hygrometer from Radio Shack or Kmart to keep track of the relative humidity in that room. Ideally, you want to keep the humidity below 60%, closer to 45 - 50% if possible (it is not always possible).
Also, make sure that your Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) system supplies air to this room.
If your problem continues contact a indoor environmentalist or indoor environmental consultant to help you identify sources of the pollution and moisture. All of my resources below have links to professionals all over the United States.
Is there a link to the alleged incident where John McCain referred to his wife by a very degrading term?
I received a couple of replies to another answer saying this had happened. It's the first I've heard of it. If it's true, it suggests there relationship is far from harmonious - and that maybe he has Tourette's Syndrome, beyond having the general malady of thinking Bush is a keen visionary and insightful leader.
Thanks JustGood. You know your stuff.

Question answered by justgoodfolk
John McCain's temper is well documented. He's called opponents and colleagues "shitheads," "assholes" and in at least one case "a fucking jerk."
But a new book on the presumptive Republican nominee will air perhaps the most shocking angry exchange to date.
The Real McCain by Cliff Schecter reports an angry exchange between McCain and his wife that happened in full view of aides and reporters during a 1992 campaign stop
Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.

What are environmental consulting jobs like?
For someone graduating with a baccalaureate degree in Earth Sciences and Environmental Policy.
How much do these jobs pay starting out?
Are they very stressful when compared to government jobs?
What is the scope for increasing one's salary after starting out?
Please be sure the answer the questions. Don't just say something that relates to the topic unless it answers the question.
Most of the answers on here just say stupid things like "wtf" or just post ads. This doesn't help me, does it? So why are you wasting my time by posting things like this?

An environmental consultant works on commercial contracts to address a variety of environmental issues for their clients. They cover a wide range of disciplines such as assessment of air, land and water contamination, environmental impact assessment, environmental audit, waste management, development of environmental policy and development of environmental management systems.
The sector continues to expand in response to a mix of regulation, corporate risk and reputation management. Consultants operate in a very commercial environment and senior staff may be required to help attract future clients for the business.
According to the 2008 Environmental Data Services (ENDS) survey of environmental professionals, the majority continue to be employed in the consultancy sector.
A career as an environmental consultant offers the opportunity to work on a variety of different disciplines, with the potential to specialise.
As there is such a variety in the type of work that an environmental consultant may undertake on a day-to-day basis there is clearly a wide range of typical activities. A key task is to identify whether land, air or water is contaminated by means of desk-based research and field work, and then undertake an assessment to identify if that contaminant source can have an adverse impact on a receptor (such as humans or groundwater, for example).
Typical work activities include:
* Conducting field surveys: collecting data to establish a baseline condition for levels of pollution or contamination for a site or area of consideration.
* Data interpretation: this can include detailed assessment of data, often using software modelling packages, to identify whether 'contamination' exists in accordance with legislative drivers.
* Development of conceptual models: this involves identification and consideration of the potential contaminant sources, critical pathways and receptors that could potentially have an adverse impact on the immediate and wider environment.
* Report writing: completion of detailed scientific reporting, written in a manner that can be understood by non-technical people.
* Dialogue with clients, regulators and sub-contractors e.g. analytical laboratories.
* Due diligence: carrying out desk-based research to review previous investigations of a site that a client wants to purchase, and possibly undertaking field work, to identify previous activities on the site and any contamination.
Should I use Gypsum or Dolomite?
I am preparing three holes for planting. The soil I have struck is moist and cloddy, sticks to the spade etc.even though we are in extreme drought conditions. I don't have a leaking pipe, and when I water it forms a mini quogmire although it has drained away after about half an hour. The soil looks great, except for the clodding,I think it is going to need something to help create air and drainage. It is not clay, so do I use Gypsum or Dolomite. Thanks.
Great, why do I bother.

Question answered by jazzmaninca2003
It sounds like you have a very heavy clay soil. What I'd suggest you use to help correct this problem is to add a generous amount of 3 parts bagged compost and 1 part bagged steer/chicken manure... then mix it in with your soil. After mixing the compost/manure and soil together, you can backfill this mixure into your holes.
Try spreading this mixture over the top of your soil around the plants about every 6 months. This application replenishes the microbial population and also provides a food source for them.
Good compost and composted manure contain microscopic beneficial organisms that will begin to congregate around the roots of your plants as well as open up air spaces....allowing oxygen and water to move more freely throughout the soil profile. The roots of your plants won't have to contend with hard soil and they'll grow healthier. These beneficial organisms are also able to help protect the roots from diseases and nematodes as well as help those roots utilize available nutrients.
There's nothing wrong with using gypsum or lime (depending on the pH of your soil) along with what I've suggested.
Hope this information helps. GOOD LUCK and feel free to write me directly if you have further questions.
