Where should I donate my used pens and pencils?

I have about 50 assorted pens and mechanical pencils that I don't need anymore. They all work fine, but I am moving and I don't want to bring it with me. I would throw them out, but I was wondering if I could donate.

Lindsey

Question answered by Elaine M

There are a ton of artists that would want those, both in your local Freecycle list or on Craig's List. Just put a posting about them.

I am working with my sons earth club on a similar project. Basically everything you need for school can be made from a sustainable source. I found the Office Max and Target had the best selection and Walmart was a close 3rd. Other office stores seemed to have little or no selection. Terra cycle has a great recycled line, which can be found at Office Max. They have binders, pens, pencils, markers and mechanical pencils made from recycled content. They also make things like pencil pouches from drink pouches. Office Max also has several of their brand that is made from recycled content. Look for copy paper, file folders and Polyproplene binders which are recycled and biodegradable. You can also find pencils that are FSC certified, meaning the wood was sustainably harvested. Target has a couple lines one is greenroom eco which has colorful binders, dividers, folders and a variety of other items made from recycled content. There are several backpacks made from recycled materials as well, you can find them at www.ebags.com. Keen, Patagonia and Mountainsmith are a few brands. Of course the greenest thing you can do is to use what you already have. I always suggest collecting all the school and office supplies in a central location so you only need to buy what you don't have. Don't forget items used in the classroom like paper towels, tissue and copy paper.

What writing utensil would be best for writing the smallest?

I can have one notecard to help me on my final exam and we can write as much as we want as long as it's all handwritten by us. We can also bring a magnifying glass should we need one. What kind of writing utensil (pen, mechanical pencil, regular pencil) would allow me to write the smallest (while maintaining a degree of legibility)?

Question answered by Uso

I use Sakura Microns for tiny lines when drawing/inking. They come in varying sizes, and the 005, the smallest, writes very thinly but clearly. You can find them at most stationery and art stores, and they are not too expensive. Good luck on your exam!

What other things can I bring to Fort Jackson for basic training?

I'm going to ship out for basic training next month so I'm packing up right now. Can I bring any of the following items? My recruiter never gave me a list of things to get so I'm going by websites. Cough Drops Envelopes Stamps Pens, Sharpies, Mechanical Pencils, & Pencils College Ruled Paper Composition Notebooks Memo Books That's about it so far for what I'm asking.

Question answered by Lillian

Ask your recruiter for a list and stick to it. When I was in I had an extra suitcase full of civilian clothes because I was going from basic straight to a long tech school. I would check, storeroom space may be at a premium.

What pencils or more importantly pens help you if you have bad handwriting. Mechanical Pencils?

Well tomorrow is the first day of high school and I have about a day to buy some kind of magical pencil or pen that will help me with my bad writing. So far I have seen that Mechanical pencils help me best however I am at a loss with pens!

Question answered by Purple Printmaker

Use what suits you best. However, I'm very sorry to say that it's not the pencil or pen that does the trick. It's taking time and writing carefully. It's a nuisance, I know, when you just want to write and be done with it. But it's just the way it works. I can sympathize; my handwriting isn't the best, either. But I studied calligraphy, and actually made a living at it for a few years. When I take the time and am careful, I *can* write beautifully -- and in several different styles, as well! But when I'm quickly dashing off a note -- uh-oh! So I know from experience that it's not so much the writing implement as it is the hand that guides it! Good luck!

How to be organized in high school?

In my bag I usually carry a 1.5 inch durable binder. Dividers inside the binder for each class and they have pockets . Some black pens and mechanical pencils. Highlighters and a calculator. Is there anything else ill need?

...yo

Question answered by Brian

Don't include your math assignments and notes in your everyday binder. I would use your 1.5" binder to keep important handouts, and writing utensils. I would only have important handouts and notes in your binder.

When did mechanical pencils first come into use?

I know that regular yellow pencils have been in use for forever, but what about mechanical pencils? who thought why don't we make a pencil that's like a pen and you can put lead into it? I've been wondering this.

1822 - a pair of british guys.

is there a limit on how many pencils you can bring to the SAT test?

on my admission ticket printed only from collegeboard.com says bring TWO No.2 pencils and a good eraser-a pencil is required for the multiple choice questions AND the essay. Do not bring pens or mechanical pencils.

Justin

Question answered by Eric

no i just took the SAT yesterday (thank God it's over!) and i had 3 pencils with me, and they gave me 4 additional pencils with collegeboard.com printed on it, so i don't think there is a limit.
